If Arsenal pay £20 mil for Mata it's going to be hard for me to not compare him to Suarez who went for £23 at about the same age. If you pay £20 million he's gotta come in and have a BIG impact.

Except that Ronaldo sells 500,000 shirts a year at 50 lbs each. I think Real will recoup most of the money they invested in him in the long run.

Pay the 20m. If we try and hold out for the best deal for us we will end up losing him. It's happen to many times. Just do it, ffs.

Shirt sales margins are substantially lower than this, IIRC. And he's also on rather high wages too - have to factor that in as well.

While I agree Arsenal are one of the most fiscally responsible football clubs in the world, they are quite far behind many other clubs in revenue. Bayern, Man Utd, Real Madrid, Barca, etc. revenue streams are ridiculously high compared to what Arsenal generate.

The Swiss Ramble is the blog for this stuff: http://swissramble.blogspot.com/2011/06/real-madrid-and-financial-fair-play.html

Also, please sell Nasri, keep Cesc, buy Mata. That is all...

Ya, but over the course of his career there they may even make a profit off of image rights, merchandise, etc. If you don't believe it, go back and look at how much money they made on the Beckham deal--and he had already "peaked".

Yeah, I caught that but let it slide. I must admit, I'm a bit excited about the possibility of him joining.

I don't think anyone ever would give Nasri the band

I think rvp deserves it but I don't know what kind of captain he'd be

Surely it must be RVP. If not then I'd like to see TV5 get the nod. Either one of those 2 appear a lot more vocal than Cesc anyway, so that might be a plus. I would love to see our next captain light their asses on fire when things get tough and not sulk the way we did towards the end of lst season.

I agree. It's going to RVP first, though. Rosicky has worn it in a few games before, but I don't know how much PT he's going to get with the first team this season.

I'd sell Nasri - he's overrated and I don't think he has the mental make up to perform when he wants out. 25 million pounds is a lot of money too.

But assuming he stays, I definetly don't think he should play in the middle. He's been underwhelming whenever played there - I'd rather see Arshavin or JW play in Cesc's position.
