After Osorio and after Richi tuck the team for second time in two years with great success, I was sure that they will name him the coach, then they announced that they will bring Backe to coach the team, several people here including me were of the opinion that isn't the same to coach in Europe or South America that Coach here in MLS, but people like Soler they know so much of this that they say, what the hell Backe will be the solution and now before Soler going away he extended the contract to Backe for two more years....

Although people are generally quite anti the Emirates Cup at the moment following the Open Cup situation, I have a feeling this competition might be good for the team.

Playing against quality opposition in a new country etc might just have a positive effect on the team. If they put on a good show, it will give the team a much needed confidence boost.

As for Hans having 'lost the dressing room' I think Saturday will speak volumes.

The whole "lost the team" thing is completely unfounded as far as I've read, pretty sure the entire thing came up because Teemo asked to be subbed and Henry was getting testy with the reporters. Don't think a single actual word about the status of the locker room has come out.

Yea saturday needs to be a reaction win.... If the team really cares about the coach, about the fans they'll bust their asses to win.

but another game like midweek happens then we can start calling for someones head

I agree that something's wrong (injuries and callups are not the major part of the story), but I also agree with Ag that we've seen this all before. How about trusting in our management (which includes Soler) to sort this all out. It's quite possible that once we get a couple of our players back Hans can be prevailed upon to make changes that would move us closer (when at full strength) to being seriously competitive in a playoff run.

In other words, I don't know enough to make this call, even if I could. I mean it's fun to offer opinions and discuss it, but this is really not my job, it's Soler's and his superiors'.

I have to admit, when you look at a team and go "how are they not winning with this level of talent" the most likely reason is coaching. Backe's subbing pattern has been questionable and how Ben Stiller's obvious illegitimate Morrocan lovechild continues to get so many minutes is beyond me. But as much as a crutch as it can be, injuries have been playing a factor.

I'm just sick of seeing a game and hoping for, at best, a draw. I want to see a W, I don't care who it's against or what the score is.

I agree but many here have been thru so much crap over the last 16 years that with signs of more of the same (or same ol' metro) things get touchy and fans start to throw the coach and the team under the bus.... Hopefully this is premature... otherwise the Curse of Caricola has followed us from Giants Stadium :(

LOL our RB reporters need to stop taking all of their talking points from the hysterical posters at metrofanatic... That shit isn't worth the interview time they get with the players and coaches.

One dude makes a baseless assumption that Backe has "lost the team", gets the usual mob mentality that comes with such a statement, and Ream needs to hear about it? Please...

With the talent this team has assembled and if anyone has seen them play, please come up with a better answer to our problems.

When talent is injured or not around due to Nat team comittments the team is not that talented and that is the problem...when most everyone is healthy and available to play and they stink up the joint then I will agree that there is indeed a problem...

My distinct impression is that there have already been several games with "most everyone healthy" and RB has, basically, stunk up the joint. That's the issue. If we had played well every time most everyone was available I wouldn't be as worried as I am.

I do agree, however, that a large part of the current sturm und drang is born of some really bad spells of injuries and callups. Remember, however, you can't expect to have everyone healthy and available all the time. Injuries, suspensions, etc. are just a part of the game and they need to be planned for.

We blew for 5 weeks before the callups for Gold Cup. The team has been underachieving all year.

No one would be complaining if we'd only sucked while we were missing a bunch of starters.

Is it my imagination, or is the team's performance even worse since they hired that so called 'performance analyst'?

Too much talent to have 2 wins or whatever since april. Something is missing with this team and it's 3 DPs and tons of national team players. Maybe it's the coaching or lack of adequate strategy? Maybe we misread talent in the trades we made?

Obviously you can't fire the players; it's time for the coach to go.

Hans isn't responsible for the mind-boggling trades of the past ten months.

This thread is as good a place of any to bring this up, but why exactly in all the outrage on this board and MF is Backe receiving 99% of the criticism while Soler's name is barely mentioned? In the end everybody seems to agree that the base of all the team's struggles is the lack of depth, so how exactly does Soler not get thrown under the bus 1/10th as much as Backe has been the past few weeks? Soler has done great to put together a fantastic starting eleven, but when it comes down to it he is the one that decided to hold on to multiple players with chronic injuries, he is the one that has botched every inter-MLS trade he's made, and he's the one that's left Backe with an entire second half of a roster that is years away from being quality enough to start in an MLS game. What exactly is Backe supposed to do about the depth issue? Do you really think making subs (who very arguably don't deserve to be playing) earlier in the game would really solve anything in the end? Is he supposed to magically turn poor players into serviceable ones in half a season?

is it just me or did our style of play change in the last 2 months.
It seems to me we had Richards playing much higher then he does now, more like he is asked to defend. We were playing 4-3-3 or 4-5-1 attacking down the wings. Now is more like we are 5-3-2 all down the middle with no wing play, slow tired with many backpassing that leads to more mistakes and frustrations.
