Personally I don't see a problem with her doing the show either. The only thing I would really worry about is potential injuries. I know I've read about a lot of people getting hurt on the show (I think Walsh even tore her Achilles a few years back) so maybe just for the sake of the Olympics she should wait until after that to do it.

It was Misty May-Treanor that tore her achilles on DWTS. But, yes, there's definitely a danger w/ a show like that for someone coming off major shoulder surgery who wants to play in the Olympics in the next 12-14 months.

The WNT members' inability to mention WPS at all (or so it seems) is even more puzzling when we get posts like this on the US Soccer's blog site...

Does anyone else notice that Hope Solo loves to be in front of a camera? She seems to be on every show and is clearly trying to turn herself into a big celebrity. Not that it is a bad thing, but it is in stark contrast with the rest of the team.

She does seem to be enjoying this more than the others, but good for her, more power to her.

BTW, did anyone see how hot she looked in that belly shirt on Lopez last night? :D

Well, she's either the biggest name on the team or #2 after Abby, and she's a lot more telegenic. It could well be that she's the one all the shows are going after, rather than that she's putting herself out there.

There's nothing wrong with that. Solo can do all the media appearnces she wants as long as she doesn't do porn or anything!

She spreading the word about women's soccer wherever she goes even if she doesn't mention WPS. It's still better than nothing.

And let's face it unless you're blind you realize Solo is hotter than Wambach. Even her voice is sexier.

Thanks for posting. Solo did great and Lopez was good too.

A 17 yr. old kid asked out Solo to the prom! LMAO!

Solo then dunked Lopez in a dunking booth by kicking a ball at the target. It took her 4 chances out of 10 balls. Not bad.

I'm sorry so Hope Solo has to be number 1 and the voice of women's soccer because she's a straight sexy looking female and Wambach is none of those to anyone? I have nothing against Hope but Abby carried the team and deserves just as much praise and I'm offended that because she doesn't fit the mold of a hot woman to the USA she is pushed to "backup singer"

I think the reason Hope Solo is making so many TV appearances is because she is taking some time off to heal her shoulder a little more because the Olympics is around the corner.

I think she is the only one from the US squad that isn't playing with their professional team right now.

On another note my future GF, that is if Hope turns me down, Alex Morgan scored a very cheeky goal today against the Boston Breakers

Don't be offended by the basic facts of life. Sex sells and there's nothing anyone can do to stop it. Everyone who knows soccer knows Abby led the team. No matter how much press Hope gets that won't change. But again, nobody should be surprised or offended by this. It's just the way things are.

You aren't the only one that has noticed. Solo very much is out there selling Solo to a wider audience as much and quickly as she can. And not mentioning WPS along the way. She's very much all about herself. Injury or no injury, Solo wasn't going back to WPS -- there have been persistent rumors of a move to Europe for the fall.

Abby turned down offers to do various shows b/c it was very important (to her, the city, and WPS) to be in Rochester last Wed. And she wasn't the only one to turn down things to return to their clubs -- even carrying injuries.

Are you saying Solo isn't going back to MagicJack?? I don't think so.

Wambach wasn't even in the game that drew a WPS record 15K last week. I saw most of it. If she was in it she was invisible since I don't recall them calling her name once.

Remember that Hope Solo is currently the only player that was/is on the West Coast at the moment (she had already been promised time off by magicjack), which is why she was able to appear on Access Hollywood and George Lopez.

Every other player is back East because of WPS.

She didn't play, but she was there and gave an interview to the crowd at halftime.

Is it any wonder women's soccer is such a backwater. Hope Solo appears on a few shows and is attacked for just being out for herself and even for being straight. Give me a break.

Anyone in marketing can tell you that the easiest way to fill the seats in any type of performance, whether it's sports, movies, concerts, whatever, is to create stars that will draw in the fans. Hell, the movie industry was built on the star system. And let's be serious, actors don't become movie stars based on the quality of their performances.

Hope Solo is a natural to sell women's soccer, most of all because she has a catchy name. A year from now no one will remember the names of the other players but they'll remember hers. (If you doubt that just think of all the actors who change their names.)

Instead of attacking Hope*, the WPS should be taking notes on how to put more butts in the seats. They can start by putting a face on a few of their players so that fans can identify with them.

*Not that the WPS is attacking Hope. Just some of their stupid fans.

Just an observation: Solo looked hotter on Lopez than on Letterman. I think she must've gone to a stylist or something.

Hopefully she can get on Leno sometime. I mean the TV show. NO other meaning intended.

I don't begrudge Solo her fame; let her do all the appearances she wants; who knows how long it will last? Besides, Americans are more partial to goalkeepers than any other country, so if she can help sell the game, good for her.

You are correct about the star system. It continues to be overlooked in women's soccer marketing.

And, in that vein, Wambach is a potential natural star if marketed right. First of all, she has the track record of heroic performances.

Second, she could easily be something that would be a lure and what no women's sports league has - a villain.

I don't mean that literally. I hold Wambach in high regard and think that on merit of play, personality and ability to articulate and strength of character (plus good looks, though I know I'm a minority on that view) she should be the face of the team and the major marketing force.

But, since she's bigger, stronger, taller and better than most of her opponents, she is a natural Goliath for league play - until the time turns to national team play, when she becomes the hero again to all of us.

Is women's soccer advanced enough to have a villain? Let's face it, that would give intra-national play a buzz.

Just stumbled across this: Alex Morgan was on a MLS show Extra Time Radio today broadcasting from New York (where tomorrow's All-Star game is being held). Not sure if I'll take the time to listen to all of it.

Anyone else catch it and have anything to report?

(at the moment, her interview is a featured link on the homepage. That, of course, can change.)

add - here be the picture that they're currently using to promote the show:

I just watched her interview and she was on for about 15-20 minutes. Pretty good interview. You could tell she was telling the truth to all the questions she was asked.

Apparently she is dating a player from the Seattle Sounders team and has not seen him for a while now. If you guys see the video the guy sitting closet to her was totally trying to flirt with her.

They did ask her 3 pretty good questions from people who twitted their questions in:

    1) Which male forward she is compared to?
Alex: she basically said that a lot of people compare her to Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez. As she answered this she started to blush and said that she would really like to meet him.

    2) What is one thing she needs to work on in her game?
Alex: she stated that her first touch is what needs work on and said it does not look that way because of her speed and athleticism give her the ability to play it off. But first touch is something she is going to work on.

    3) Who is faster Marta or Alex?
Alex: she laughed a little at the question, like she was surprised to be compared to Marta, but she said that Marta is faster with the ball and she (Alex) would be faster without the ball.

Pretty good interview and great player.

It looks like she didn't get to meet Chicharito personally on Monday at that fundraiser. She did meet Rio Ferdinand since he tweeted about it.

From WNY Flash's Mondays with McCall:

"It was funny though… night before the game Alex Morgan comes knocking on the door "Hey boo can I borrow your computer real fast?" I'm like Yeah no problem here you go…. an hour later…. I ask Um Morgs, watcha doing over there sweet darlin?.. "Oh just shopping"… shopping for what?…. "A dress to go to dinner with Manchester United"… whaaaaatttttt. Soo jelz (jealous). ManU is my team. And I want a new dress. But listen, only celebs get invited to dinner with ManU… and she can shop online on my comp all she wants if she keeps scoring stunners like that."
