Great game, needless to say. 1 goal. 1 assist. 1 post. 1 drawn red card. The scary thing is that she's still learning and is only going to get better.

Thought that she probably should have taken one of the PKs. She had the whole "Triumph of the uncluttered mind" thing going. She seemed too young to be phased by the moment. Seems like a big game player.

One of the great disappointments of the game is that USSF was about that close to having the next Mia for the next decade. When she scored the first goal, I thought, "You don't often get to see the moment when a superstar is born." Apparently she blew up Twitter.

Anyway, thought her splendid game deserved a thread. Plus I wanted the shot at giving her a nickname that sticks. Some American needs to step up the the occasion today. :D

They call her "baby horse." Can't imagine what would have happened if the U.S won today. She has so many endorsements coming her way still, but would have been better say the U.S had won with her goal and assist. The future is bright, We love you Alex Morgan

I'll give her something to talk about! ;)

Yeah she was great. But don't forget Wambach broke our US team goal scoring record today!

Does anybody know why she always wears that pink headband on her head? At first I thought oh, thats cute, but I realize after seeing her in many games she always wears it.

She said that she stuck with the pink headband because it made it easier for her family to spot her in games and the pink reflects her personality/ femininity. It's her trademark.

This USA loss is really killing me because Alex played such a great game. I became a big fan the moment I saw her play earlier in the year and I feel so bad for her at the moment.

Even before the World Cup began Coca Cola had already signed her up as one of the "Eight Athletes to Watch at the 2012 Summer Olympics", so as long as the USA qualifies we will be seeing quite a bit of her next year.

The USA, Canada & Mexico are in as are a few others, but I'm not sure who those others are. Most things I've read say the 2 qualifiers will be the USA & someone else. I think it will be 2 of the 3 listed above. We'll see.

ETA: According to the CONCACAF site The Dominican Republic, Haiti & Cuba have qualified from the Caribbean Region. The next 2 should be from Central America.

The real mystery is why it took Pia so long to use her for an extended period? She played about one full game total thru the tourney, and scored twice and setup another. We didn't get that kind of production from anyone other then Abby.

Alex is a threat everytime she touches the ball, uses both feet equally well, can beat defenders one on one...I don't blame Pia for the loss, but how could she not see how much better Alex was than the other options up front? Had she moved cheyney to mid and started Alex instead of Lloyd, with Rapinoe on the left...

So is that puppy love from ImaPuppy?;)

My analysis of her is the following:

    Good finisher, good speed
    Cute as a button

Hindsight is 20/20, That's not coaching that's called hindsight.

Here is another lesson for you coach: SOCCER IS 90 MINUTES.
Not to mention that two of our last three matches have gone 120+
Also: there are two sides of the ball.

Perhaps Morgan didn't have the ability in training to prove able to hustle for 120 minutes just like Arod didn't demonstrate her awesome scoring ability even if you gave her 300 minutes.

SOCCER IS 90 MINUTES. Since you are limited to 3 subs they had might as well all be upgrades or else why make them. By reserving Morgan and Rapinoe, two weapons, for most of the tournament, Pia made other teams pay late in games. 10 of the 13 US goals were scored after halftime. That doesn't necessarily mean that the wrong line-ups were implemented. It means the strategy paid off. SOCCER IS 90 MINUTES...

I agree on the Morgan sentiments here. She took a very difficult shot with her left foot and put it exactly where it needed to be, in the lower rt. corner of the goal making the goalie dive down and to the left. Perfect shot while being marked very tightly. Others would have shanked it or blasted the ball way over the goal.

This kid is the real deal.

Mia Hamm was Wambach's mentor. When Hamm retired, Wambach took the reigns from her and became the leader. It now seems that that same relationship should be between Wambach and Morgan. When Abby retires, the reigns will be handed off to Morgan.

Just need to get them on the same WPS team. I think it was a huge boost for Abby to be on the Freedom with Mia.

She looks like she leaves her teddy bear on the bench when she enters the game.

    Tough as nails on it.

She should start. Let A-Rod come off the bench. She showed shes a starter in this tournament

Simple, she wasn't very effective her first couple of games. Her comfort level grew and she produced more at the end of the tournament.

Two very high-quality goals and a perfect cross in the sport's biggest tournament. She's fast, youthful, and easy on the eyes. If WPS and Soccer House know anything about marketing (cough), she'll be the face of the team going forward.

Competitive as hell. I wouldn't use "cute" to describe A Morgan. Graceful, powerful, sleek, yes. If you think a shiny young thoroughbred rumbling down the backstretch of Churchill Down is cute, then she's cute, but she's more a Derby-winner than Bambi, and she has the heart of a cold-blooded assassin.

    A couple of points:

    1) the "headband" looks more like pink pre-wrap.
    2) deer have brown eyes
    3) there's something special about her (why I picked up on her Twitter feed when it was only 10K people) and if the WPS and USWNT are smart, they'll get ahold of it and make some marketing noise. Get her in Maxim (from another thread) and everywhere else you can logically and reasonably use her to be the new face of women's soccer.

Which would be why she's Baby Horse and not Bambi ;)

If her agent is smart (and she signed w/ Dan Levy of WMG who also repped Hamm at one point so he is), he does not let Morgan get anywhere near Maxim or any other male mag shoot.

Mia Hamm did not do shoots like that. Mia's image is closer to what Morgan should and will aim for. Pert. Gatorade. Nike. Pepsi. Powerbar.

Brandi "Hollywood" Chastain who was fighting for any publicity she could get did a semi-nude Maxim shoot. Brandi's other endorsement ads? BudLite and the pre-1999 Nike commercials featuring multiple players.
