Same with Ronaldinho. There is nothing you can do if it is work permit issues. At the time Arsenal didn't have a feeder club in Spain to work with.
Denilson seems to be heading out on loan to Sao Paulo (according to his twitter page at least). Some rumors are circulating that Eboue could be the next one out the door.
I obviously don't know for sure but I'm of the mind we need to do what we can to keep both. Simply because we won't replace them with players of equal quality. It's really a lose-lose, though.
Yeah, I guess my point is that we have the roster flexibility (and supposedly the money as well) to upgrade the squad independently of those two. We've got senior players of plainly insufficient quality: Rosicky, Denilson, Diaby, Eboue, Squatch, Almunia. We also have players who have motivational issues or who are a bad fit: Bendtner, (formerly) Clichy, Fab, Nasri, maybe Arshavin. I doubt if all of these players will be moved out this window, but we should hope that most of them are. Squad continuity is a good thing most of the time, but given the way last season ended not for us. And, we don't need to resolve anything with either Cesc or Nasri before we bring in quality like Vidal or Mata.
Does anyone know what's happening with Diaby? Some say he's getting a transfer, some say injured. I haven't heard anything about him. Wenger just said Almunia and Denilson were getting transfers and that Eboue and Cesc were injured...nothing on Diaby though.
I agree completely. That's what I took from what Gazidis said, too. Now whether that happens, is another story entirely. http://www.tribalfootball.com/articles/arsenal-chief-gazidis-money-available-wenger-spend-1763681
Zero basis to believe this, but we can dream can't we? Oh to have a midfielder willing to pull the trigger on a long-range shot... http://www.tribalfootball.com/articles/napoli-rattled-arsenal-interest-hamsik-1763811
Well it is is official that Gervinho has signed. http://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archive/gervinho-completes-his-move-to-arsenal
The same thing was quoted on SkySports. I'd love it, but Napoli have placed a 100 million euro price tag on him so that leads me to believe that you can't negotiate with them because they are right out of their minds!
Napoli are making a run at Serie A next season, it appears and they are in CL for the first time in ages, Hamsik isnt going anywhere unless someone does make an outrageous bid like that, lol
So what has everyone else taken from the two preseason games? Here's what I've seen: 1) The Ramsey-Wilshere midfield looks really impressive. 2) Not sure if it was because he was playing with Squatch, but Djourou looked really rusty compared to Kos and TV. 3) Frimpong, Jenkinson and Ryo look solid, maybe a season off from breaking into the lineup, but really good. So looks like this transfer season will be another disappointment. If AW can keep one of Cesc or Nasri, he'll probably see the squad as sufficient. Maybe we get a CB, but it won't be any big signing. Honestly, at this point I don't care. I just want 11 players that play for the club on the pitch and not a bunch of whiney bitches just looking out for #1.
I agree with you except I'm not sold on Wilshere/Ramsey. Just not sure they will be able to hack it in the prem as yet. Sure Wilshere we all know can hang with anyone in midfield but not sure Ramsey is ready to start game in game out. Hopefully he is though... My starting CB lineup is Vermaelen/Koscielny without a doubt. I feel (a lot dont) that Koscielny was our best CB last year. On the ground he is really good, just lacking a bit of the heading on defense. Ryo gives us that directness with some nice dribbling which I like. Jenkinson gives us solid defense and Frimpong I didnt get the chance to see as much yet to decide. Would love for our Carling Cup squad to consist of Ryo/Frim/Jenkinson/Cambell though!
http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2011/jul/18/arsenal-costa-rica-joel-campbell I like the use of the name "Richard Law", especially after the arseblog Law and Order joke last week.
It makes my stomach turn that Denilson, a player who we all have agreed for years is not up to snuff and who will ultimately leave for pennies, was a couple years ago the player who appeared in the most matches for Arsenal. Yet another in a line of players that Arsene showed way more faith in than was justified.
Denilson was decent, and occasionally good, until the back injury. I think the back injury, followed by the blessed rise of JFW, did him in.
the revisionist history of this "back injury" is turning legendary. denilson went from the most consistent passer in the premiership to a decent player. what the ******** have y'all been smoking?? he was awful, and nowhere near good enough for anything other than midtable.
We get it, you hate Denilson. I hate him now too - I didn't hate him then, because he was a decent player, until he inexplicably fell down against Everton at the Emirates. The watershed moment for him was when he let Rooney run by him a month later.
i dont hate anyone i dont know. the guy sucked, and i was honest enough to say it years ago. i feel justified that he is gone, now hopefully he is bought, and not just loaned out.
I disagree - when he did a good job of keeping possession and making tackles/interceptions, he was a decent player. He led the league in interceptions in 08/09. Bad players don't do that. He just completely fell apart after that - started being useless defensively, and started giving away possession cheaply, and once Ramsey started getting playing time ahead of him, it was over for Denilson. But he was never going to be better than Wilshere, no matter what he did, and so he had to go if he wanted any playing time at all.
his exclusion from the asia tour was said to be injury-related. i know, right? much like the spanish inquisition, nobody expected that. there was a bit of news that a bid of 10M was turned down, much to my sadness. suspicion seems to be that, with so much departure expected/anticipated, wenger wanted a certain amount of squad continuity. and i'm sure he's not willing to give up on diaby's potential. yet. if ever.
He does get games for France. In some of those games, he looks really, really good. I just don't think Diaby's ever going to put it together.
So I'm trying to visualize a realistic end to the transfer window: Denilson, Almunia, Bendtner- out Gervinho, a center back of some sort, Campbell (who will go out on loan)- in If Barcelona offer 40m-45m, I think Cesc goes and Wenger doesn't replace him, with Nasri staying one way or another. I'm already imagining the malaise for the next season, as I can't think of a period where Wenger has made more than 3 signings in any transfer window.
