For me, Sawa's goal heads the list of the best and most dramatic.

In terms of technical best, the goal by Ohno against Mexico is not far behind.

    My 5 Best* Games

    1) Japan vs Germany
    2) Japan vs USA
    3) France vs England
    4) USA vs Brazil
    5) USA vs France

    * I choose "best" to mean "best" not the most "dramatic".

    Best Overall Game:
USA vs. Japan (FINAL) (because it was the FINAL)

    Best Moment:
Wambach's header in the 122nd minute (latest goal in WWC history, probably won't be broken)

    Most dramatic match:
USA vs. Brazil (Quarterfinal) (down one goal, and down one man, to come back and win)

    Most underrated match:
England vs. France (again, this was a black and blue Euro Super Quarterfinal)

    Most important match:
Japan vs. Germany (this match signaled that there was truly a changing of the guard from the "Big 3" to anyone else outisde the Big 3 who was willing to snatch the opportunity away)

Most entertaining 90 minute match in knockout round:
USA vs. France (even though it ended 3-1, it was the best non extra time match of the Knockout round)

    Best Group match:
Germany vs. France (ended 4-2, but lots of goals, and lots of high quality talent on the field)

    Most dramatic Group match:
Australia vs. Norway (this was for all the marbles to get into the knockout round. Norway scored first, and then literally ten seconds later Australia got the equalizer. Australia won 2-1)

    Most underrated Group match:
England vs. New Zealand (the first really great-great match of the group round)

Best feel good moment in an irrelevant group match:
New Zealand vs. Mexico (New Zealand ties the match in the 94th minute, to get their first ever World Cup result. Exciting 2-2 draw)

Most stunning match in Group Stage:
USA vs. Sweden (at the time it was. Sweden won 2-1, giving USA their first ever loss in WWC group round history)

I was going to vote for Sawa's goal against the U.S. but it's not in the list on FIFA.com! They also didn't put Ohno's goal vs. Mexico. Instead they put Maruyama's goal which is nothing extraordinarily at all except that it's against Germany.

    http://www.fifa.com/womensworldcup/goalofthetournament/index.html

From the list, I pick Marie Hammarstrom's one.

I am almost sure it will, but not in a century or a few. So not in our lifetime.

I thought that that goal was just a tremendous goal

But I'll say. I think this was one of the best WC finals I've ever seen. Not sure which one I'd put ahead of it

England's 2-0 defeat of Japan was one of the best games. It's hard to believe that England was the only team that could beat the Japanese!

Foudy said the Japanese players stated they just didn't feel like playing that day. They had already qualified so it really didn't matter.

That actually may have HELPED them since it gave them the underdog role and teams may have overlooked them.

Sawa's goal in the 117th minute HAS to be the 2nd most dramatic goal only next to Wombat's goal in the 122nd minute against Brazil!

They're just making excuses. Both teams desperately wanted to finish first in this group to avoid the branch with supposedly Germany and the USA as the next two opponents.

Everyone always talks about great goals.... no 'keeper love. What are people's lists for greatest saves in the tournament? I didn't watch nearly as many games as I would have liked, so can't really talk about the saves I've seen (though Kaihori's miracle PK save with her foot after overestimating the kick would surely be up there) so I'm interested in what other people think.

I would dissent. The best game was the final, in terms of both teams playing a quality game. The USA v Brazil game was poorly played, and had Wambach not come through with a superhero moment, nobody would have remembered the game.

For drama, Japan v. Germany was as dramatic as USA v Brazil - a two-time defending champion bounced at home?

USA v Brazil was as important as Japan v Germany. If the USA is out at that stage, the tournament loses its largest drawing team, and Japan beating anyone else in the finals loses a tremendous amount of impact.

Most underrated match in terms of importance - Australia v Norway - a changing of the guard.

If Norway had any kind of potent offense, they would be the better team over Australia. Norway has a weakness, and it's their inability to create major scoring chances and score quantity of goals.
