    My favorite mexican club. :)

  4. I know many wonderful goat supporters, but this thread should be changed to Fire vs. Racist Hypocrites. I have no interest in this and I doubt the Fire FO cares whether I do, or not.

I'd have gladly offered to buy your ticket, but it's a midweek match.
Although, this *is* Chivas we are talking about. I just might take a night off for them.

I feel exactly the same. Then again I don't care about the Man U game either. I'd rather our remaining bonus ticket count towards the Open Cup semi-final or possibly the final if we win the semi and host.

    Fuck meaningless friendlies.

Can you explain this? Is this because of the thing where they will only play Mexicans in their team?

I don't get why all the venom for friendlies. If you are a fan of soccer, wouldn't you want to see ManU play? If you are both a fan of soccer and a fan of the Fire, wouldn't you want to see the Fire play ManU?

I'm not big on Chivas or anything, but it should be a packed stadium and a chance to watch one of the top teams in Concacaf. It's not a USOC final, but it should be fun. Maybe convert a couple people into Fire fans etc.

  10. DING! We have a winner. In this country that's called racism.

I'd rather watch the Fire play them in Guadalajara than in Goat Stadium North, er Toyota Park.

  11. no, that's called nationalism

YEAH!! And fuck staying profitable to absorb things like a power outage causing a huge unforeseen operating loss.

Just sell your ticket. You can probably buy 2 or 3 Open Cup tix with the proceeds.

Actually it could be called Xenophobia, not Racism.

Now the team in Spain that only fields Basque players, is that also Xenophobia?

Over the years the Fire have probably played about 20 teams in friendlies.Of these 20 teams how many have you became a fan of because of these freindlies?

I started becoming a "fan" (in so much as I could be a fan of a mexican club) of Chivas years ago when they came to Chicago and did something with the Fire. Maybe double header or something? Can't remember, I wasn't a big soccer fan back then.

But the point isn't to make people living 5 miles from Bridgeview a fan of a team in Europe, it's to get soccer fans, who are not Fire fans, into Toyota Park. Maybe they have fun. Maybe they consider coming back for a game w/ their kids. They can't watch Chivas or AC Milan or Man U play in person every other week while living in chicago, so maybe they will start supporting the Fire.

If you get 15,000 Chivas fans, who all live close enough to attend at TP, some of them are bound to come back to TP as a result of going to this game.

    Nationalism != Racism.

Is the US National team racist because it only plays American players? No, it's not because Americans come in many races.

Same with Chivas, they got Mestizo, they got Gueros and they would play Giovanni a Black guy, if he wanted to play for them. They don't care color you are, as long as you're Mexican.

This came as a reaction to soccer when Chivas was founded, when most teams in Mexico were founded by Europeans who did not allow Mexicans to play. So they said "Fine, We'll found our own team...with hookers...and blackjack. In fact, forget the soccer team". Well, that's not historical accurate. But teams in Mexico did exclude Mexicans for playing for them and Chivas did it as PR stunt and its stuck.
Plus post-Mexican revolution there was a strong nationalist fervor to unify the country and this led to Mexico nationalizing a lot of foreign holdings in Mexico, plus it's always easy to scapegoat the gringo if you're a politician in latin american. So theres that.

Anyway, that said I hate them and their stupid glory hunting fans. Anyway, considering what happened w/Pumas fans last year. People should perhaps learn how to turn the section 8 zine into a millwall brick. I'm not saying, I'm just saying Monterey Security sucks and can't be counted on to do their job.

Radmonkey: True, but wasn't there also a French influence on the team, including it's choice of colors?

Close, Belgian. I had to look it up.

I don't understand why they refuse to play Mexican-American kids who play for the US nats but play Mexican-American kids who say they'll play for Mexico. That's stupid, but it's their loss I suppose.

I'd (this guy of British Isle extraction) rather play for Mexico, too. Or Argentina, Germany, hell, even England..... but that's (Mexico dominating the US now) another story.

We played a double at Soldier Field with them, they played the second game against Real Salt Madrid. I remember it was hotter than the hubs of hades that day, over 100 degrees...
