    Re: DeRo fan from Toronto

The trade was received pretty much unanimously positive. Dax is a good guy, but it wasn't working as well as it should have.

FWIW, it looks like a replay of the match will be beginning in a few minutes on CSN.

And with those 3 points, DCU has equaled its point total for 2010. #progress

Sure; but things like McDonald's square ball to White that didn't have enough to get there and put Henry in free with White chasing, or the long ball from Ream to Henry that White stood and watched until it went over his head and he had to turn around and chase Henry, or a number of plays similar to those, all scared me. I'm not trying to be hard on them -- but they've still got a long way to go mentally I think.

Jay! -- you took two quotes I was contrasting as well.

Najar may have had an 'off' game, but he is tenacious as hell, and my only concern is he is going to get picked up to play in Europe before we know it.

woohoo! Watched DK, so got to listen to the homer commentators whining. I usually turn the volume down, but after the goal, I turned it up and laughed my a-s off!

Great game by Najar. He was tenacious and his defense was excellent. He tracked back, and fought hard to pressure the opposition as soon as he lost the ball. I thought he had is best defensive performance against Portland. His d last night was a close second.

I think the D of our wide midfielders is the key in these road games. When they prevent good service into the box, it takes a lot of pressure off the back line.
    Strong defensive performance overall.

Olsen is working out a formula to hold a lead. He's a young coach. Good to see that he is learning, improving.

He should definitely sit vs. Everton.

You know me -- I'm a perfectionist. But when I sit and think about it, I know they're kids and they've got a lot of upside accompanying that "much to learn" stuff. My main concern isn't actually about them -- it's about whether our coaching staff has what it takes to develop these guys (well, White and Kitchen anyway, since I don't think McDonald is sticking around) into the monsters I actually think they can be. I hope so.

good god mcarty is a terrible player, how the hell is that guy starting in this league is beyond me. He lost the ball over and over again and cant tackle to save his life. Im so glad we got rid of him. DeRo goal was fantastic, and i also like the addition of mcdonald. If we can get a healthy jago back and possibly sign another defender and AM in the transfer window I would be happy about our prospects of playoffs. Simms was smooth in the midfield and I dont understand the hate here for him.... He was the motion in the ocean last night

    p.s.
    bretshnider(sp) got a concussion, WTF

I guess you didn't see *either* of the two matches they played with him before last night, in which he was arguably the best player on the pitch not named Thierry Henry. He had a lousy match last night, yes; but the two previous matches for them he played very, very well.

    Re: DeRo fan from Toronto

I'm only speaking for myself, obviously.

I've disliked DeRosario since he was at SJ. Always thought he was a selfish asshole and when he went to Toronto and made a few high-profile dick moves towards the team, it sold me on the idea that he cared more about himself than the club.

When he was signed by DC, I was unenthusiastic. Obviously, he's been great on the field so far. I mean, really great. He feels like the missing link for this team. But I also feel like it's almost inevitable that he's going to pull some dick move at some point because he's DeRo and that's what he does. I'm reluctant to warm up to him as a fan because of his history.

Maybe a few more games like last night and I'll get over it. For me he's already passed Davies, who has got to be the least likable United player since Stoichkov.

I would LOVE McDonald if I thought he would play more than a handful of games for us before he moves to some Finnish Second Division team.

Absolutely both are right. The only difference between this game and all the ties were that the Scum Red Beef couldn't close the deal on any of their chances. Too many times I saw Henry 25 yards from goal and Simms is laying back like the last central defender. Henry beats White on a long ball over the top and misses the chip. Bad back pass goes by McD and he doesn't run hard because he thinks White is and the only guy running hard is Henry who beats both our defenders and gets off a shot. Can only hope that White is learning from these games and he becomes the beast we see he can be. Like what I see from McD so far.

Overall, great effort by the guys and they actually closed one out. BOUT TIME!

Najar with the stupid foul at the end that could have cost us. Marrufo allowing the corner after the free kick taken after 4 minutes. Can't believe he didn't give a yellow card to Solli for the kick to Brett's face.

Already pointed out Charlie not being on his game previously. Tonight was no different. Poor touches and when he made the best touch pushing the ball outside of Sutton he showed little composure putting the ball in the net. Although it was an improvement from the last time when he totally missed the open goal. Really need him to be the heads up, I will outwork you and beat you kind of guy he showed playing for the Nat's.

Agree with all the posters concerned about the midfield depth. Once Fred is gone we have none.

Season wise, the FO has done a good job putting this team together. We have a competitive team. Wolff, Davies, Brett, White, Kitchen, McD and now DeRo are all making this team better. If we can keep up with the wins and ties and start winning some more than tieing it could be a better than expected season for me.

Edit: guess I should have finished reading the whole thread before posting. I agree with you both.

From my perspective, every dick move he made toward TFC was justified. They were jerking him around in a big way.

We have no midfield depth but with Blake hurt we also have no depth at forward. Ngwenya is our only option now to sub in.

I think that the concussion problem, while worse for us than for other teams, is a product of the MLS style of play of high speed, high collision, low rhythm amongst players.

What makes you think we won't dick him around too? He thinks he deserves DP money. I wonder what percentage of people around here agree with him?

(If DC makes the playoffs and he's the catalyst, I would side with the player.)

Exactly what I was about to respond with. If he continues to bring it, I say pay the man.

In the case of Toronto it wasn't just the fact that he wasn't getting paid what he felt he was worth but that they were also bringing in high-priced DPs such as Mista getting more than 2x his money and produced jack shit. I'm not positive about this, but my understanding is he'd gotten assurances that he'd get his money and TFC kept moving the goalposts.

Davies played fine for 50-55 minutes. After that he was totally gassed. You mentioned the subs. Ngwenyu ended up not making many mistakes so that's a plus I guess. Davies should have been gone before Wolff.
Also, in the stadium I had thought the 1st minute tackle by Sutton on DeRo was a PK, but upon re-viewing, it looked like a good no-call.
