the non-foul call on Gaven, resulting in the 2nd goal was an absolutely terrible noncall by Prus that may have decided the game. however, this is not the thread for that. this is about the level of play, and clearly, without a shadow of a doubt, the level of play is by far the highest in the history of the league. I found it laughable in the offseason when people trumpeted the idea that the level of play would be down because McBride, Mathis, and Bocanegra were gone, and it's even more laughable now, after the first 2 weeks of the season. Columbus looked awful in week 1, not because of McHead being gone, but because there starting centerback and starting forwards (Marshall and Buddle), were already hurt. Chicago is having trouble because they can't score. 2 games, and they haven't given up a goal. doesn't seem like they have missed Boca too much, eh? The league is better now ........ clearly, and by a significant margin. by the way, newsflash ........................ EDDIE GAVEN IS GOOD!!!
The only part of this game I was disappointed in was the long distance shooting. It was extremely poor. Part of it that is possibly the turf, which may be hard to shoot from distance on. The other reason of course is that Americans generally speaking are lousy long range shooters.
I agree, but considering from the Metros perspective, it was a nice way to get back in the game....Passing, on both sides, was poor at times, but at least I appreciated that they tried something more than just boot a ball upfield....even if often the attacks did not materialize into dangerous chances... Liked the possession play that we saw at times, when players kept the ball away from the other team, especially when they needed the ball the most...This shows a lot of improvement over years past....
I unfortunatley agree. Mathis is our one saving grace. And if he is out of sync, we are way too predictable..
There was some pretty good passing/sustained possesion in NY-DC considering the balls rolls pretty fast on the turf.
