the irony of that is tenfold. if I remember right, he played for Chivas at the time. Who we played in the first round of the playoffs (we magically made). We beat them.
didnt esky's dog take a shit on the RES field which he didnt clean up? that seems to be my lasting memory of that asshole.
Easily his greatest contribution to the team. And, it was a very humorous moment, we all enjoyed. But, we've moved on.
What?! That was Dema's puppy, after the last Rice-Eccles home game. Eskandarian wasn't around for the opening of Rio Tinto. Don't make me break out the sock puppet.
I know for a fact, Esky took the corner kick when Talley scored against Everton. That was our 3rd or 4th corner kick goal of all time. Win, lose, or draw, he was always the player who walked around the field saluting the fans. Remember, Kyle Beckerman was very hated here in Salt Lake at one time too.
oh thats right. freaking dema. it was one of those dogs that i would just like to kick as well, one of those little yappy mother********ers slightly smaller than a soccer ball that you'd like to punt over the moon. in either case, both those guys were douchebags.
Yeah, but those dogs and his five-o-clock shadow got Dema the job with DirecTV doing the Russian Plutocrat thing. I do miss Dema. Eskandarian on the other hand was a tool. I should have called him Massive Headwound Harry like we called Wilmington's keeper yesterday.
Kind of like Esky. Esky lost a bet I would guess. Demas dog takes a dump on the field and Esky had to wear it on his head. At least thats what it looked like.
Did you guys hear that FC Dallas and assist Coach John Ellinger are trialing one Luis Tejada of Panama. It just never gets old, does it, John? http://www.tribalfootball.com/articles/fc-dallas-curious-tejada-and-perez-1728531
Tejada's major fault is his first attempt at the league he appeared to not take the league seriously, came into camp fat and was quickly sent packing because of it. He is currently in shape, as we saw in the Gold Cup. And, he's certainly learned a thing or two about MLS in the intervening years. He could be a great signing for them.
I watched a couple of the Panama games with Tejada and yes he is in shape and dangerous but I would think that it would be 70-30 against him being a good signing. I think he has an attitude that is troublesome.
Old friend Jeff Cunningham tied the MLS record for goals tonight. Goals per team Columbus: 63 goals Dallas: 33 goals Salt Lake: 19 goals Colorado: 12 goals Toronto: 6 goals Goals-to-Games Ratio Salt Lake: 19 goals in 32 games Dallas: 33 in 66 Colorado: 12 in 26 Columbus: 63 in 193 Toronto: 6 in 32
I'm really not sure this stat even matters in a league where the regular season means so little in respect to a championship. Especially in a sport like soccer. I'll give more kudos and respect to what a team / player does consistently over an entire season than a few weeks in late October / November. Case in point in the respect department: RSL 2010 > RSL 2009 Cup Champs I'm sure I'm in the minority here, but I'll take 10 seasons of the Jazz competing for a championship every year (and not winning) vs. 1 championship and 9 years of sucktitude. Yes, I'm sure I just managed to take this thread / comment on a wild tangent.
I bring it up because its not like Jeff is consistently on bad teams. He has been on some pretty good teams, in fact. For whatever reason, though, the ones he is on just can't get it done when it matters.
he was part of the 2002 US Open Cup winning columbus team and the 2004 SS Columbus team. other than that, not much.
I'll admit it, I'm not a Jeff Cunny fan at all. He's a nice enough guy when I've met him in person, but I think his work ethic on the field is utter shite. Which is why I think he's never seen any hardware. In games that matter it requires a player to go all in and be a member of a team. That means filling in wherever necessary. Cunny only plays forward, and rarely plays defense (when he's not tying his shoes). He's a pariah on every team he's been on as evidenced by his many clubs throughout his career. Great forward, shitty team mate, zero hardware.
To this day I can't think of Cunningham without remembering that goal in RES where he ran over and kissed his own player poster on the sidelines. Classic.
