This was the lead story in today's sports section. http://www.boston.com/sports/soccer...r_targets_of_revolution/?p1=Well_Sports_links
Its also on the front page of the sports section in the print version... and above the fold... the entire fold
Very well written article by FDA. This gets the story out to a large number of people that normally wouldn't pay attention to anything Rev-related. I see it as more bad PR for the FO/Kraft. I think this article will help our cause.
Honestly when I was speaking with Frank, I wasn't sure if they'd do an article. He even told me the first time we talked that he was more doing this for research ... something changed where not only did he do the article, but it was given top billing in the sports section. Wow.
Before this I would have agreed with you, but now- I think he knows something is going on. How often do the Revs make the front cover of the sports section? Let alone 90% of the front cover.
I got at least 10 text messages/e mails this morning from (non soccer) friends telling me about this article. It was defiantly noticed.
The Revs probably love the fact that they made the front of the sports section of a large newspaper. It's the most PR they've had in how long? Since the Revs played in MLS Cup in 2002 maybe? Think they're worried that the article has a slightly negative slant? We think that this article helps the cause of the Fort. I think that, if anything, this much press in a major publication has just helped them sell enough tickets to replace those that some disgruntled Fort members have stopped buying.
And even if he doesn't, I'm sure it was brought to his attention. Will he do anything about it ... we'll see. Agreed. I've heard from a ton of people today about this myself.
Should have mentioned this earlier, but it would be good for various people to post their comments on this article on the Globe's site. Just as views count to the Globe in regards to attention paid to their articles, comments also mean a lot.
Good article and I'm glad FDA covered it. Glad he mentioned Philly doing it, but he should have added it has been echoed across the country to add more weight to the fact all the other SGs are onboard. Also, I was moderately surprised there were no quotes from the FO, in particular the meeting on Wednesday night. He's clearly on the side of the supporters. Really happy it was above the fold in the Globe. Just hope it does not further alienate the Revs from the rest of the mainstream Boston sports scene. Here's hoping this type of negative exposure to the Revs organization in a very public regional news medium by one of the most respected and tenured soccer writers in the country, combined with our shitastic record gets Grandpa Apathy & Son out of hibernation to evaluation the situation and make managerial changes.
Yeah, come on down and get hassled by jackbooted thugs! They treat their most fervent fans like criminals and other fans in other cities have been holding moments of silence for them, let's buy a 4-pack honey. I'm sorry, I can't see it. Like Joey I've heard from a lot of my friends and family who aren't soccer fans and the general theme has been, "wow they treat fans like crap huh?"
I think it was well written. It communicated what the organization was trying to do as well as thoughts from people in the fort. I think this will help as I believe the Krafts understand how valuable the fort is to fans attending games (and no, I don't sit in the fort). I can see the article being of interest to fans of other types of sports because I don't think they have as much communication with the clubs in general as do the fort members and soccer fans in general. I truly hope the Krafts think about what they want the Revs to be and what the Krafts need to do to get the club there.
I agree with what Jim said, but I'm curious as to see why someone who's not been coming would read that article and think "Hey, I want to go stand in the Fort!" ... just wondering?
It is time to turn-up the heat on the Krafts and the Revolution management team. They clearly will have taken notice of this article... and they will be aware that, given the high profile of the story - front page , above the fold - the general public is aware, as well. It is imperative to maintain the pressure on the Krafts and Revolution officials by keeping their sub-par stewardship of their MLS franchise - the handling of the YSA incident on June 18th being just the latest example - in the public eye via a pointed public protest action. Sixteen minutes of seated silence and a mass walk-out from a Revolution match would either shame the Krafts into changing the manner in which they operate the Revolution, or plant the thought in their heads of selling the team.
I thought my mom was joking when she said the whole front page of the globe was an article written by FDA about fortgate. I was even more surprised to see it was written from a supporters point of view unlike the Kyle McCarthy BS on mlssoccer. Props to FDA for really getting our dissatisfaction out in the open, I never frown upon public backlash towards the FO/Krafts.
It got mentioned at the family cookout today. just a random thought: There was some of us (not sure if I did or not myself, but I certainly thought it) who said that FDA didn't have the stroke or cojones to write a pro-supporter article on this. Would anyone else like some ketchup to eat their words with?
