I agree. You've got no arguments from me on that. I am just continually annoyed when people don't know what they are talking about and assume that we should just beat Mexico every time we play them outside of Mexico. It just isn't true and the run we had against them is not the new normal. Mexico was in a down time for the program while we were doing a little better than we normally do. I think going forward we're probably relatively even, but running a little behind Mexico.
mexican federation workout getting their national team busy! Note: mexico sending Olympic team age group to America Cup. While USSF: the under 20s failed to qualified, let them stay theres & do nothing, nothing done right way continue process development for Olympic age group team. At least, get some three friendlies against B level CONCACAF teams for these kids!!! After 2006, major changes should been in done our USNT program, especially in youth development, but it stayed the same.
I completely agree with you. The USSF have not done enough towards development and especially not enough in regards to the growth of soccer in the US.
Aguirre had the best (Champions League) pedigree. Chepo is an up-n-comer, who had excellent results with Toluca in a much higher rated (than MLS) Mexican League.
Has there been any confirmation of an announcement from US soccer? Are we just speculating because of the email with Jack Bell's blog?
Washington Post's Steven Goff, who's probably the most reliable guy covering US Soccer, said that he was not informed of any kind of announcement today. If Sunil was going to fire Bob, it likely wouldn't be the day before his son's wedding.
The big announcement was a letter to all US Soccer fans about the security at the final. Here is the link: http://www.ussoccer.com/Open-Letter-to-Fans.aspx Came out today. This is not a major anouncement at all.
If you go to this thread the question posed through email was specifically about Bob Bradley. https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1767893
This was a matter of time. They have a stronger league and then in 2007 they won the U-17 WC. Out of that team, today at least 4 are starters or key players in the MNT (Moreno, Gio, Barrera and Juarez). Chicharo could had been part of that team but wasn't but he is off the same generation. That's what you call a golden generation. The Mexican Fed leaves a lot to be desire but they do learn. As an example of how they dealt with the current doping situation. One other thing they learn from us in regards to their U-23 team not to make the same coach (MNT and U-23). Meanwhile we thinking of making BB the same coach. But remember Chepo almost did not become their coach. The guy is really good. Strategically sound guy and knows Mexican soccer unlike Aguirre, Sven and Hugo Sanchez. People here nowadays still don't want to give the due seriousness to U-17 ad U20. Just read what some say. I believe we should assemble those teams to WIN. If we win other goals will be accomplish such as exposure, feeding the MNT, building a winning attitude. The U-17 and U-20 need major overhaul. I woke up today and BB still coach...sad...
I completely agree. Same goes with Costa Rica since they are participating in such elite tournament. They will be steps ahead of us, meanwhile we don't even have a coach. Let the excuses begin...
Uhmmm we will be behind at least 4 years. Their golden generation hasn't even come into age (Peru 2007 WC winners). Their U-23 is getting quality experience. Their U-20 is better and their U-17 also. Do the math, we just don't have quality players but keeping BB will just keep us stale right there in 2nd place instead of doing something about it.
Hi. I'm not arguing we should keep Bradley. My argument is simple. People who expect that we should beat Mexico every time, particularly given how well they are doing right now are just out of touch. We should beat them some of the time at home and we will likely continue to lose at Azteca.
If we are to fire bob bradley, we should get a top level manager. A Louis Van Gaal or Rafa Benetiz. Nothing less.
I believe we should beat Mexico every time we have a two goal lead on them. That doesn't seem unreasonable.
Our roster is the definition of mediocre. Without any real impact players, it's easy to see why we have struggled against quality teams. As the saying in American football goes, "It's not about the X's and O's, it's about the Jessies and Joes." Mexico (GC)? More talented than us. Ghana (WC)? More talented than us. Brazil (Confed)? More talented than us. No one should be surprised that we have struggled in friendlies since the WC, A lot of the teams we have played are just far better than us (Brazil, Argentina, Spain). We don't have one player who could see the field for those teams (okay, maybe TH could start in goal for the Argies, but still...). No one should be surprised that we lost to Mexico in the GC final. They're a better team with more top talent. Our goals were against the run of play. It was obvious from the first whistle that Mexico was the more dangerous team. And yet we might still have won if not for Cherundolo's injury. You can't blame that injury on Bob. You can say that subbing in Bornstein was the wrong move. You might be right, but Bob didn't have the benefit of hindsight. For all his faults, Bornstein played reasonably well in the World Cup. There was no guarantee that he would go out there and have a shocker. It happened. It's over. Bob has probably learned his lesson about this player (see: Ricardo Clark). I think Bob has done a pretty good job as USA manager. The only big thing I can fault him for is his tendency to play favorites with certain players. I have a hard time believing that Agudelo was a better choice for the GC squad than a guy like Buddle. I have a hard time believing that Bobby Convey shouldn't have been brought in for a look at some point in the past 12 months. It seems that if you fall out of favor with Bob, you're toast as far as the USMNT is concerned. But still, he has cast a wide net since the WC and made efforts to incorporate young players who could contribute. New names have been brought into the fold, including some promising talents like Chandler and Lichaj (although Bob's two golden boys Ream and Agudelo were both zeroes in the GC). I have no doubt that if he remains manager, he'll keep working to find our best 11. A lot of people want us to be something we're not, which is a great soccer nation. Unrealistic expectations are likely to cause disappointment. Look, we don't have a single player on a CL team in a top 5 Euro league. We are not a talented team relative to the other teams that perennially make the World Cup. We are not going to consistently beat those teams, and that's not Bob's fault. It's the Jessies and Joes. I'm not itching for Bob to be fired because I understand that a replacement isn't going to turn our 11 into superstars. Chances are, we'll be just as mediocre under the next coach as we have been under Bob. That won't change until we have a stronger roster capable of imposing its will on good teams.
