I really want to read this. Are all of you broke college studens like me that could not afford to fly to LA?
Didn't buy tickets ahead of time, because I wasn't sure the US would even make it. Once they did, didn't feel like paying $100-$125 a pop when I could watch at home.
Some of us Work for a living and can't take time off. A game in Texas is a drive for me, no problem. Pasadena is a flight, getting a cheap hotel on Colorado Boulevard or having to plead with one of my ex-girlfriends if I can crash on their couch, finding a way to get to the Rose Bowl up that terrible upward driveway, resting, getting back to the airport and flying back. That's 3 whole days I have to take off, and a whole lotta hassle. Besides, the last 3 Gold Cup finals in Los Angeles that I saw, bad stuff happened. In 1998 I got a 9 Volt battery thrown at my head. In 2000, Canada played against Colombia and I ate too many Bacon Wrapped Hot Dogs and got Nauseous. In 2002, I had a flu or something and didn't feel my best. (Still felt good to win, though)
I was afraid of all the scary Mexicans with their bad language and their beers..... LOL! But seriously. I will not travel for this team if they have no intention of actually trying to improve the game. As long as the USSF are running things the way they are I'd only go watch them if they played in my area. (which they never do)
Well at least I know nobody can use the "Hotel" excuse. Howard Johnson on Colorado Blvd, half a mile from the metro station was $75 a night.
Top 5 Reasons why I didn't go: 5) I like watching sports on TV 4) I live in Savannah, GA 3) Getting there would've required an expensive plane trip taking multiple stops 2) I have a job and would've had to take off Friday and probably Thursday 1) Wouldn't want to go if the US didn't make it and since I didn't have tickets and they did so with two days notice it would've been a nightmare to get there when you look at all my previous reasons considered excluding number 5.
Because I live thousands of miles away. The problem isn't people not FLYING to the games, it is people in the L.A. area not buying tickets and driving. Not being able to fly to L.A. has nothing to do with being a broke college student, it has to do with responsibility, having a job, a family to support, and not having thousands in disposable income.
I live a thousand miles away, I have a job, and I am emptying out my bank account to get my wisdom teeth taken out because I have no dental insurance. Even if someone gave me tickets, I'd sell them. Sorry bro.
I live in the other corner of the country and Brazil '14 is where my long distance football travel dollars are going to. Sorry, brah.
What college are you attending? I need to forward your post to them so they can check your curriculum and evaluate your professors ..... because something isn't working. To answer your question - I live 3000 miles away and have responsibilities and work that precluded my attendance. But I have been to see the the US play in the eastern US and in Columbus and I have been to other games on the west coast and in Las Vegas. So yes many of us are committed fans.
The sad thing is that all the local U.S. fans probably were there. It's just that there's two U.S. fans for every two zillion Mexico fans in this country.
I didn't enter. The right raffle or drawing nor competitions to win tickets! CONCACAF has a larger population over a half billion people. It isn't just for those two countries. I imagine. Alot of other countries got a chance at some tickets Even from other Conferderations. Still there is always general admitis unless its under some other type of regulations...
It's a long drive from Asia, had work commitment Monday in Asia, and opted not to cash in a weekend free pass from the significant other for a game that wasn't sure to include a poorly performing US side. Other than that, I would have liked to be at the Rose Bowl.
1. $ 2. Couldnt get time off from work 3. Had to take the GMAT that morning. (I had to take it this day because I was already admitted into a Masters program) 4. No one to go with Edit: I flew up to NYC to see US v Argie. Family and friends are there so I have a place to stay and someone to go with. Also I drove 3.5 hours to tampa to watch that horrible loss. I was able to get a group of friends together for that game.
I live in OC and I wanted to go. After further consideration I realized I am not very good at turning the cheek and I know how Mexican fans behave. I would have retaliated for sure. I have 2 kids and a wife so I just stayed home. Sigh. The fate of the SF Giant fan at Dodger Stadium victimized by Mexcians is upper most in our minds out here. People are getting fed up with this community. Unfortuneatly, CA will never go Arizona on these people.
People that live across the country should not have to go just to put fans in the stands for the USMNT. I don't care if LA is Little Mexico, it's ridiculous and pathetic that the American fans are completely outnumbered. Step it up, West Coasters.
I have the same problem with retaliating, and I've done it before, and will not stop just because I value going to US soccer games. I have 0 problems with revenge. And flying to California for a weekend is not my pay scale.
