I am not sure who deserves more blame: Bornstein for constantly being out of position or Bradley for deciding to bring on Bornstein and reshuffling our back line. That substitution was the difference. If Cherundolo didn't want to come out either... It's an egregious error.
On the bright side of things, Bornstein will never see the field in a meaningful match for the United States ever again.
bob is and always has been a terrible talent evaluator- the one thing you need in a national team coach. Everyone saw he was not international quality, PLUS he aint playing WHY call this guy up?
Bob remains the manager, not even he is that dense. Bob is fired as manager, and it's not even close. He is in purgatory now, and will never come back. This game was a positive for two reasons. We found our Freddy. And we got rid of Bornstein once and for all.
BB loves Bornstein and Sacha, his Chivas friends. Neither are quality enough for this NT until they prove so.
Loosing dolo was a killer. Bornstein is still terrible. He can't judge a header, it's awkward to watch. It's like a fakeout every time the ball is in the air to him. Yes, Mexico was clearly the better team, but a 2 goal lead needs to be better protected.
I can't believe anybody is defending Bornstein... he came on and, realistically, could be mostly blamed for the first two goals. Mexico before those goals looked defeated. They were tired, heads hanging, demoralized etc. They get that first goal that was 100% Bornstein's fault and they got a little boost. They get the second goal, 80% Bornstein's fault, and they knew they were on their way to winning the game. Sure, he wasn't responsible for all 4 goals but he was mostly responsible for the 2 biggest goals. The goals that decided the game. Not to mention, his entrance into the game pushed Eric out of the position he became most comfortable with during the tournament and, subsequently, he really struggled.
That's a good question. Bornstein has proven time and time again that he is not of a high enough quality for this level. Bradley has to know this, but put him in anyway. And what happened? Bornstein was at fault for at least two goals and arguably three. And why did this happen? Because he was CONSTANTLY out of position and Mexico exploited the space behind him. Almost every time our back line had the ball, Bornstein was practically off the screen running forward. Every play he just pushed forward leaving our slow backline exposed in 3 v 2 situations when we turned over the ball. The only logical reason for Bornstein to come on was for his pace. So surely Bob must have told him, "look I'm bringing you on because our backline is slow and you are fast. Just stay home and help track their fast forwards." That is all we needed. Instead Bornstein just ran forward every play pretending to be Ashley Cole and it cost us. We were up 2-0, we didn't need him flying forward trying to support the attack, especially when nobody was giving him the ball anyway because they don't trust him. Where I blame Bradley, besides for putting him in obviously, is for not ripping Bornstein at halftime and telling him to do nothing but stay home. The whole second half Bornstein did the exact same thing as he did in the first, and it kept pulling the backline out of shape. Poor Bocanegra had to constantly slide out of position to fill the gap or was left exposed to be taken on at speed by Mexican forwards who he is too slow to deal with. It was a nightmare to watch.
I think the whole Bornstien to Tigres thing was a cunning Mexican conspiracy. They played to BB's weakness, bring his Chivas USA pet to Mexico, further validate JB with Bob and shazam- the Mexicans virtually play with a man up in the GC final. JB back to MLS at years end, probably to that shithole that is Toronto.
Also, if you want to ask the question of, "Well who could Bradley have put in?", the answer is simple: Anyone. I honestly believe anyone on the squad could have been put at left back and done a better job than Bornstein today if they played smart. And by smart I mean stay connected with the backline and not run out of position every play. The reason Bornstein looked so bad was because the Mexicans kept putting the ball in the space he left behind on his idiotic adventures forward. I don't think he was ever beat by a Mexican running at him and just toasting him. As long as there was a warm body where he should have been, it would have given the backline a better chance.
Spector to FB, Ream or Edu to center and Bocanrgra to left FB. No other option should have been considered, period. The moment I saw that ass of a FB at midfield, even up two-nil, I knew it was over. If Bornstein is ever seen in a USMNT camp (even as a reporter!), the coach of that camp should be fired on the spot. Speaking of "reporters" none that cover the USMNT have balls, none! Shut up with your blather Chistopher-Eric. Call a spade a spade or you are useless.
Am I the only one that thinks that Bob panicked when he was told Dolo had to come out, and didn't figure out that he could have thrown Mo Edu out there instead?
From Bornstein's Wikipedia page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jonathan_Bornstein#International_Career Heh, I lulz'd
Haha I texted my buddy the exact same thing! I said...Bornstein's been subbed in (bc he was with his gf and couldn't watch the game), prepare for MX to go ahead and win this now.
