I don't know, the way the article exposes that seems deceiving. I might be wrong but that seemed to be a kind of parable ; there's no way he was being serious even if that's still a strange thing to say in a public speech.

Bottom line, he does not like capitalism...:D

It sounds just as ridiculous in the original Spanish. Obviously he's trying to make a point about capitalism, I don't think anybody believes that Chavez actually thinks that this is what happened in Mars, but the way he says it sounds pretty crazy.

Chavez claims he had knee surgery, but he is actually in serious condition after prostate surgery

Chavez is seriously ill; the story:

Chavez tells Venezuelans he went to Cuba for knee surgery, but apparently he is in critical but stable condition after surgery for prostate cancer.

    http://lamula.pe/2011/06/25/hugo-chavez-esta-grave-la-historia/alvarengo

The vanity (manliness) of Hugo Chavez made them invent the story of the knee.

My wish for him is a massive postoperative infection followed by a lingering death. I'm certain Sean Penn, Michael Moore and Danny Glover would fly down for the funeral.

I often wonder how you Americans can function as normal human beings. You guys hate everything and are scared of everything. Latin America, Middle East, Eastern Europe, Russia, Communists, North Korea, China, Pakistan, muslims...
lmao the entire country needs to get laid

the cancer of the world since last world war. you can measure a country by how much it hates communism. the more they hate it, the more they want to gain a relative advantage through exploitation, war, and international trading, or being slaves en route to relative advantage (south korea). there is no other explanation.

and yes, they create bitterness using capitalism, and then their citizens direct that bitterness (of course also towards each other... the US has one of the unhealthiest societies in the world) towards foreign nations.

    AWESOME.

I always wanted the US to combine a nuclear warhead with the DNA of the people from "To Catch A Predator" so we could come up with a "RapeBomb" to drop on other countries, but until then, the Cancer Ray deployed from International Space Station will work just fine.

    Thanks
gonna have to show it to my Colombian friend when school starts and ask her to give me her assessment.

From my experience with nejad, Western media loves to find outspoken characters and misrepresent him/her by either giving outright incorrect translations or overlooking jokes or meanings behind the words. They conviniently forget that not all cultures are the same when it comes to countries like Iran and Venezuela. For example if Japan was an enemy, you would see hillarious comments by their leaders on a daily basis in Western newspapers.

Or we just let the insane ramble.

Forget? No, we just don't care.

    We already do that here.

That may indeed often be the case, but I think in this particular instance the English article sold Chavez way short.

What impresses me with our scientists on this one is that we can apparently give whatever kind of cancer we want. Kirchener? Lymphoma. Chavez? Colon cancer. That's an impressive cancer ray gun

I honestly don't think there is anything to make fun of Chavez here.

Just because he is thinking aloud about the coincidence of so many leftist Latin American leaders, including himself, being diagnosed with cancer, bearing in mind that in his case in particular, the US has in the past even sponsored a failed coup to remove him from power, that this thought would cross his mind is not all that surprising. While being far more removed from the issue, and hence in a better position to objectively weigh these factors allows us to find it very unlikely that the US is behind the illness of these leaders, I am pretty sure if any of us were in his shoes, we might have engaged in similar speculation as well.

Unlike you guys, I think Chavez is cool. I wish him a speedy and full recovery and I am glad to see him doing better despite the ill wishers who were claiming he was on his death bed.

The intensity dial is also impressive, as it can set any stage of cancer its wants.
