With Rose Bowl parking being the cluster F that it is, we were thinking of taking the Metro Line into Pasadena. Are there any LA residents out there who can recommend the best stop on the Gold Line to park and ride? I'm coming from the south, and the Atlantic station is the beginning of the Gold Line and also the closest station to where I'm coming from. I'm just wondering how safe the Gold Line is at, say, 9-10pm on a Saturday, or how safe the Atlantic station is for my group and my car at around 10pm. There are other stations on the line, like Union Station, that might be more crowded and thus safer for both person and car. Any thoughts?
Sierra Madre Villa station. Hands down. Largest/safest/most convenient structure along the Gold Line. Although, if you're driving to a train station, I don't why you wouldn't just drive to the shuttle lot at Parsons and take the shuttle down to the Rose Bowl.
Thanks for the responsed; I'd also been checking with the LA Outlaws on this topic. If you're in town, there's a pre-game party at Dillon's in Hollywood tonight.
Sierra Madre Station is probably the safest park & ride spot. Regardless of where you park the car, you'll want to get off at Memorial Park Station. From there it's about a 2 block walk west to the Parsons shuttle. *edit* http://thesource.metro.net/2011/06/23/go-metro-to-the-gold-cup-championship-saturday-june-25/ The Metro also said they will be running longer trains on the Gold Line to accommodate the expected increased load.
Thanks LAP and everyone! LAP, is there enough parking at the Parsons shuttle lot? We probably won't get to the area until 3pm (I've got an indoor match Saturday morning in SD), and I'd hate to get to that lot only to find out it's full.
With a 6pm kickoff on a non-workday (Saturday), I think you'll be more than fine getting to the lot at 3pm. Worse comes to worse, you can drive over to the Sierra Madre station and take the train back. http://www.rosebowlstadium.com/RoseBowl_shuttle-dropoff.php
How late do the trains run ? My group is staying in Pasadena, and would love to take the rail into LA tonight to meet up with everyone at Dillons tonight. What spot would be best to get off? Can't wait til tonight and tomorrow... Chase
Good info, thanks! Will give Parsons lot a shot... $20, right? Do you know if they charge to park at the Sierra Madre Metro station? Just curious...
Alas, they don't run very late in the evening. If you take light rail to Dillons, you'll be getting on the Gold Line: http://www.metro.net/riding_metro/bus_overview/images/804.pdf Take that to Union Station. From there, transfer to the Red Line: http://www.metro.net/riding_metro/bus_overview/images/802.pdf Get off the Red Line at Hollywood & Vine. Coming back, the last Red Line train that you can catch to Union Station, in time to make it to the last Gold Line train to Pasadena, is at 11:24pm. So plan to close your tabs around say 10:45, so you have a good half hour to walk the quarter block from the pub to the station. Free parking!
Yep. Might be more cost effective to park at the station and take the train in to Parsons. $1.50 a pop I believe. Probably a 10 minute train ride max.
