** I'd think this is the worst 2 year record of any coach since 1990,
    but I could be wrong.

SINCE BEGINNING OF WORLD CUP '10:

    3 WINS, 5 LOSSES, 6 TIES

***** shouldn't Bob have to win Gold Cup to keep his job? *****

I'm not defending the record, it speaks for itself (not so good), but only three of those stand out as being particularly unacceptable.

Great post. The program is declining.

It's been clear for a couple of years that we need to go in a new direction.

there is really no defense for a guy in charge of the US' first ever gold cup group stage loss, when we have the two best attackers in US history

We needed new blood after the world cup. There is no fight for any position. It is the same old , same old. Bradley is a bore, complete bore who has no emotions and it is time for a change.

Which three? I see five unacceptable to me:

0-4 loss to Spain at home
2-1 loss to Panama at home
3-1 loss to Honduras at home
0-5 loss to Mexico at home
2-2 tie to Haiti at home

Spain may be a great team but losing 4-0 at home on the eve of the Gold Cup is ludicrous.

As I said after this match, the USSF let Bob down by scheduling this so close, but Bob let 65,000 paying fans down. Ok, maybe only 35k as the rest were happy with the result. This was not the moment to pull this marketing marvel. We are not far enough along where we can alienate our fledgling yet growing fan base. This was careless and might in the end cost him the job as virtually no one will support him during the bad times. Does he care? who knows, I think he did Sunil a huge favor taking the job in the first place.

I'm not defending him, but to be fair, you need to keep in mind who was on the pitch for the US in a few of these so-called disappointing draws/losses.

We reached the finals of a major international tournament, and we finished first in our World Cup group. What else do you want?! Just give it some time. Bob is the best we've got.

He picked the team. It's his decisions on tactics, formations, starts, subs, everything. Keep in mind that it was Panama, the 67th ranked team.

One thing: It's been a long time since we've been blown out this regularly by top-level competition. Sure Spain is outstanding. But we should never lose 4-0 at home. Brazil is talented. But it was a bunch of teenagers playing a team that just won its WC group, and we rarely lose to Brazil that badly. Argentina was a draw, but that was all Tim - we were sorely outplayed.

The trend is definently in the wrong direction.

Bob started out undefeated for many games as US Men's coach many years ago.

As demonstrated, he became mediocre over last 2 years.

This past year, in particular- he is a sub-500 coach.

This is the wrong, wrong direction.

There is a reason why you don't get a lot of head coaches sticking around for a 2nd cycle. This should be particularly true if they are not strong tactically. Players get complacent, and they have heard everything you have to say ad nauseum. As a non-tactical, 2nd cycle coach, you are bound to be less effective.

Even our best win (against Spain in Confed Cup) is basically negated by this recent loss- since it is clear how much better they are....we just caught them on an off day a couple years ago (and bunkered like crazy).

We could not replicate that Spain victory anymore even if we tried...at least not under Bob.

I wasn't talking about Panama and I don't disagree with you this is an awful loss, but there are some other games people are criticizing where they played guys like Heaps, Beckerman, Pearce, Ching, and such because it was a meaningless game.

Don't get me wrong, I think it's time for Bradley to go too, BUT:

Some of those losses were pretty meaningless w/ understrength squad. He does pick the team and tactics, true, but if he didn't experiment (resulting in a loss) and instead went safer (getting a win), most of you would be criticizing him for being "play it safe Bob" again.

The other thing I'd point to is Arena's record his last two years. I don't think we're any worse, but we're not any better either:

WC run-up: less than confidence building wins v. Venezuela + Latvia and the Morocco loss. We were at better strength than these teams.

WC: crap game v. Czech. Gutsy draw v. Italy (same result as the recent WC match v. England, but a better played game), and a squandered opportunity v. Ghana (like the recent one except worse for me).

Gold Cup in 2005. We won, but we also did it in penalties against...Panama.

    Other Euro friendlies:

-2-1 Loss @ Soldier Field to England which was worse than the score line. Considering roster strength and the lack of Gold Cup distraction, this was not much different than the recent Spain loss.

-Got our ass beat at Germany
    -Defeated Poland 1-0 (solid result)
-Drew Scotland (not a good Euro side)
-crushed Norway 5-0 at home, who played no first teamers that match and had only 3 on their bench. We had a solid core that included guys like Donovan and Dempsey.

We get a run of luck/good play here or there, but the long term trend to me looks like one of stagnation rather than regression.

The trend is terrible for 2 years now...

more blowout losses....more losses period.....squeak by wins...

definitely going in wrong direction....this is a trend, with data behind it.

this was not just a one-off loss.....

of course (and right on time!) we get guadeloupe and another CONCACAF minnow or 2.....just what the doctor ordered for Bob to right the ship!

okay look, to me a loss to many of the teams we play isn't so bad. i mean we are playing good teams and i credit bob for helping to set those up. the losses in themselves don't mean crap to me. it's the way the team plays. that's what matters.
