Spain is Saturday, Canada is Tuesday, Sunday + Monday+Tuesday = 3 days.

That's what I meant. With only two days recovery after Spain, I really doubt we are seeing much of the A team for very long. This strikes me as a good money grab for the USSF.

It would be silly to give our starters extended minutes so shortly before the Cup. Put this on the line-up card:

    --------------Hahneman

    Lichaj------Goodson----Ream------JB

    -------------Jones----Specs
    ---Bedoya-----------------------Rogers
    ------------------Adu
    -----------------Agudelo

and pray for an extended lightning storm > cancellation of the match.

That would be interesting to see if nothing else.

    What I'd like:

    Wondolowski
    Donovan--Adu--Dempsey
    Bradley--Jones
    Lichaj--Bocanegra--Onyewu--Cherundolo
    Howard

ya, I basically just reverse handicapped my starting 11 for Canada (except I think Agudelo will likely start if we go 442; and Jones may well start over Edu).

I agree, against many teams in the world, it'd be interesting to run that out. But, against Spain's A,B, or C Team, it would be scary. Clearly, the glaring weakness is at the outside/a-mid spots. If we added Holden and Benny to the mix, we'd have an intriguing 2nd 11.

If we are looking at trying 4-3-3, it seems to me that Bedoya should be in the line up. That's the formation he is used to playing in at Orebro, where he really seems to be coming into his own this season.

On the other hand, I think I'd save the experiment for a CONCACAF friendly. You don't mess with success, and what worked against Spain was our traditional 4-4-2 bucket.

I like the line-up, except for a couple of things. I don't want Goodson on the bench so I'd swap Onyewu for Goodson. Also, I don't know how I feel about Wondolowski as the lone striker because he is the type of player who can't be alone up top.

When was the last time we played a CONCACAF opponent in a friendly?

ESPN has comments on the USMNT Spain roster.
    No access unless a subscriber.
The thrust is that our true blue players will be rested vs Spain, although they may start?
Dempsey? Donovan? Bradley? Altidore? Dolo? Gooch? Boca? Howard?
    I'd love to know.

Re: So who should we start against Spain?

    To summarise

Star players likely won't play much
Injured players like Howard and Onyewu probably won't play at all
    Does this risk embarrassment? Yes
But, Spain is tired too, plus the whole Real vs Barca dynamic
Both teams likely will be looking past this game

    Notes:

    Hahnemann was released by Wolves
Mark Hughes left Fulham for Villa
Bradley's agent says Bradley's contract has NOT been purchased by Aston Villa despite earlier reports.

First of all, Altidore is not proven at Goalkeeper, at all.

Second, Onyewu is too slow to play a true #9.

    And so on.......

They'll go a half and some may go 65.

I guess it depends on the weather too.

Bob will probably high press like crazy, then sub starters out.

Re: So who should we start against Spain?

I could see guys like Donovan and Dempsey going a half. Jozy goes around 60. Bradley goes 90 just watch. Jones goes 60-70. Fullbacks go for around 70. My starting XI.

    [LINEUP-4-4-2]Altidore,Agudelo,Dempsey,Jones,Bradley,Donovan,Lichaj,Bocanegra,Goodson,Cherundolo,Hahnemann[/LINEUP-4-4-2]

    Adu for Dempsey at 45
    Kljestan for Donovan at 45
    Edu for Jones at 60
    Wondolowski for Altidore at 70
    Spector for Cherundolo at 75
    Bornstein for Lichaj at 80

With this changes we get most of our subs out and we rest most of our starters while keeping them match ready.

Although honestly, if I could play an entire reserves team I'd do it. I don't get the idea of having a friendly two days before an very important match.

Their exact word I think was nicked up. I don't think they meant he was Stuart Holden injured, but is nursing something.

    EDIT: Here is the quote

Of course it will take a broken leg to keep Timmy and Gooch from suiting up for this game.

Regarding lineups, I'd love to see this:

    ----------Altidore-------------Dempsey---------------
    ----------------------Adu----------------------------
    Bedoya--------------------------------------Donovan
    --------------Bradley-------------Jones--------------
    -----Boca-----------Gooch---------------Spector-----
    ---------------------Howard--------------------------

It is a friendly, nothing to lose. Let these guys play with no pressure.

Yes, we would lose 3-1 or worse. But I'd love to see us sack up and play this way.

Edit: Hell, I'd love to see us line up this way against anyone.

IMO Bradley is bound and determined to make the 4-5-1 work for the US and so I believe that is what he will try to use for at least the first half. (if Howard & Gooch are nicked up)

[lineup-4-5-1] Jozy, LD, Deuce, Jones, Bradley, Edu, Spector, Boca, Goodson, Dolo, Hahnemann [/lineup-4-5-1]

Why do you think Bradley would start Spector at left back?
