I agree with the suggestion that the FO ignore Jack. They asked him to use the correct name and instead he chose to act like a cheap version of Jim Rome. My first thought would be to deny him any access without buying a ticket, but that would be mean-spirited.

Jack thinks he still draws a lot of water in this town. I don't think so.

Yeah, Kietzman's ran got blasted pretty good by a few people (I think it was on Twitter, not here). It's ignorance, and the lack of wanting to actually learn the game that makes these guys come off like jack asses.

I am Jack's complete lack of a clue.

Just makes me angry thinking about him shouting down rational people trying to explain that the USOC game wasn't an "Exhibition Game" because we rested a few players ....

Kietz's take was so pig-headed and full of american exceptionalism, I confess, rationale-me fails to recapture it with a comfortable degree of accuracy. Nevertheless, here goes:

I believe Kietz point was that MLS inclusion in USOC is stupid and the USOC, itself, is stupid. His example was the SKC vs NE.

810 Radio Caller (hindu accent) attempted to parody the significance of FA Cup in Eng to USOC in US. Caller attempted to explain the difference between "exhibition" vs USOC game, much less the idea of multiple competitions. Caller attempted to explain what actual exhibitions, say Seri A in Pasadina, means to fans and how it differs from ho-hum league exhibitions in 'US' sports, etc.

All fell on Kietz's def ears. Kietz cut him off. Caller tried to tell Kietz its a big world and theres more than one way of looking at things. Caller tried to use European examples in explanation....

At some point Kietz was critical saying, "You must not be up on your US history." Caller stated he knew US history. Almost laughing, Kietz then stated words to the effect: "No, I dont think you know your US History, bc US History is the most important thing because everything we do in this country affects everything else in the world."

Wait I don't get it. In college hoops we've always had a tournament nobody cares about, but has the history and legends (bad ones) to keep it alive. NIT.

Ironically this all came up in the 9am slot again on 810 -- Disrespectful was the term thrown around a few times.

Disrespectful that the name was changed?

Disrespectful in what the name was changed to?

    or..

Disrespectful by media members refusing to call the team by the proper name?

Hey at least he has the "the intestinal fortitude" to hate soccer in the US. We all know that this is not an easy thing to do. I'm personally not about to let a giant d-bag like him in any way impact an event I've been looking forward to since...well, since the first mention of soccer specific stadiums came around. I'll raise a toast to my team and a middle finger to him and proceed to enjoy myself.

810 and Jack Harry...interesting that they believe their opinions mirror that of the general public. 810, especially, tends to feed off listeners that think like they do...same with Smack Jack. The audience share either is not all that great. People who don't agree don't listen or watch. They lead a swarm of poorly informed and opinionated nincompoops.

See and that creates a cycle, because the team pushes to get players on the air on these stations, on these shows, but fans don't listen because they're fed up with the crap from some of the people that do the shows. The station then sees the ratings and think it's not worth their time to do it because people don't tune in for it.

Well, I never ever listen to these shows when players or coaches are not on, so at least I'm helping reverse this effect a bit.

I've really been meaning to listen to Nick Wright talking to SKC players and coaches. I'm not sure exactly how he feels about the sport or the team...

/Edit: Err, I thought Wright had talked to SKC folk at some point - but may be mistaken.

I think this is why it is important to support the on air shows on 810 and 610 and make some positive noise on twitter, and via email to the stations when you like what you are hearing.

I agree 100%. Why do I want to talk to someone that knows very little to no understanding of what is going on with sporting? I really think that the host are glad that no phone calls come in after players call in, because they wouldn't be able to keep a conversation going with 1 education fan. They wouldn't even be able to hold a conversation with my wife and she is a beginner.

Which is why as James said we need to support the shows on 610 and 810 with Callum, and Jack and Josh respectively. They're actual in depth conversations about soccer.

I think it will be tough to get past people wanting a nickname prefaced by "The". I recently tweeted the question if we should try to own a new one, since the FO essentially distanced itself from Wizards. The answer was "no" from a long-time Wizards supporter. I understand that viewpoint, but I think that there are a lot of new supporters like me that do not have the connection to Wizards, so we do not currently have the fight for it.

The vacuum is the biggest issue, so the "haters" are driving it. No lion or any other animal on the shield and Sporting isn't natural. All of this reminds me of Harry Burns making fun of the name "Sheldon".

I went to Washington State and I wear the "Wazzu" name proudly. Maybe long ago that was derogatory term about WSU, but now we own it. Perhaps "Magpies" and "Baggies" was once a putdown too. I don’t think I want to own "Sporties", though.

I catch myself saying "c'mon, Blue!" when watching, so that is what I am going to yell at the tv and at the games. I am also ignoring the noise about this issue until something organically happens.

Obviously can't speak for everybody but for many of us Wizards isn't going anywhere as a nickname and I wear my SportingKC gear proudly. Like the new name, but the team as well as being SportingKC will ALWAYS be the Wizards to me.

Pretty sure that was me, and I stand by that line of thinking. We have been the Wizards and we will always be the Wizards.
