Re: MLS 2011 Non-Sporting Discussion [R] Game was delayed due to lighting, but was called because the field was unplayable due to the rain. Was still unplayable this morning, game was moved to July 2.
Re: MLS 2011 Non-Sporting Discussion [R] Wait what? I thought it was tied 0-0... Vancouver's getting screwed there. In most situations, the game becomes official after 45 minutes - yes, I know that it was the second half of a two-legged affair, but that's unfortunate. It truly sucks that the game will be a full replay.
Re: MLS 2011 Non-Sporting Discussion [R] Yeah, there was a discussion about it on Twitter last night. It has to be replayed due to NCC and (I believe) CONCACAF rules. I know we had a game called at half time that counted as a full game against DC a few years ago.
Re: MLS 2011 Non-Sporting Discussion [R] RSL and Portland both lose at home in the same weekend. I think that leaves us the only team undefeated at home, right?
Re: I wish. http://www.chicago-fire.com/news/2011/05/fire-part-ways-carlos-de-los-cobos And just like that another coach falls, de los Cobos gone from Chicago, former Wizard Frank Klopas is going to do the Vermes thing and be TD and coach.
Re: I wish. [/QUOTE]Frank Klopas is going to do the Vermes thing and be TD and coach.[/QUOTE] We all know how well that has worked out for our team, maybe he will be more suited for success than Vermes. Vermes has to go to top of the hot seat for coaches now if the wins don't start happening with our home schedule.
Re: I wish. I think that is more a function of Arena being a much better manager than Vermes. I can't say I like Arena's playing style, but it gets results. He knows the type of players he needs and plugs them in to his system. To this point, Vermes history of selecting players to fit his system has not been the best. Just look at all the players we have shuttled through in central defense and defensive midfield during his tenure. Not to mention the lack of creative playmaker. I don't have a problem with the same person being both manager and technical director, I just don't think Vermes should at this point be in either role. I would argue that he has been below average in both positions. I would like to think that the results will just start changing for the better once we play at home, but I just don't see it. These are the players he has selected for his system and they are not getting the job done. At a certain point he needs to be held accountable. Till then I will just keep hoping for the best.
Re: I wish. This isn't totally the thread for it, but I disagree with this, especially after the last two league games. The team is looking better, I'm feeling good at the moment heading into the stadium opener.
Re: I wish. This is bound for a terrific chuckle. http://deadspin.com/5806938/portland-fans-are-too-hung-over-to-cheer-properly
Re: MLS 2011 Non-Sporting Discussion [R] New York drops two points at home in literally the dying seconds of the game. Ouch. I'll take our draw over that any day of the week.
Re: MLS 2011 Non-Sporting Discussion [R] So interesting goings on in the Columbus-RSL game last night, Crew win a PK, Cunningham is the designated PK taker, but Mendoza steps up to take it and doesn't listen when multiple players come up to talk to him. Mendoza is then booed by Crew fans because Cunningham taking it would have given him the goal scoring record from Moreno. Mendoza buries the PK, then proceeds to shhh the Crew fans. Then after the game said this: "I don’t want to sound disparaging, but maybe the fans aren’t knowledgeable." Really endering himself to the fans isn't he?
Re: MLS 2011 Non-Sporting Discussion [R] [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wG-ZO5eaq0s"]YouTube - Real Salt Lake x Columbus Crew - 08/06/11 - [WEEK 13]‏[/ame] Skip to about 3:25 and it shows all that went down with it. D*ck move from Mendoza.
Re: MLS 2011 Non-Sporting Discussion [R] He just looks like an asshole. Either way, hell of a strike from Gardner. Was is 'be a dick and bring a horn, trumpet or vuvuzela night'? -- the audio from that game had me wanting to punch people.
Re: MLS 2011 Non-Sporting Discussion [R] Yeah, watched that last night. That was ridiculous. How you don't let Cunningham take that to tie the record is just... wow. That can't be good for a locker room.
Re: MLS 2011 Non-Sporting Discussion [R] I was impressed by Cunningham's post game comments, he's been known as a locker room cancer throughout his career, but was totally professional about it during the game (he was the one basically telling him players to back off) and after the game.
Re: MLS 2011 Non-Sporting Discussion [R] Didn't see those. That's good at least. Still, if I was a Columbus fan, I'd be super pissed at Mendoza.
Re: MLS 2011 Non-Sporting Discussion [R] Pretty sure I read somewhere that his rep in that regard kept him from getting called up a couple times
Re: MLS 2011 Non-Sporting Discussion [R] Man this forum is motoring -- this thread was bumped to the second page!! The Don Garber Q&A with Andy, Thad and myself -- not much on Sporting (I mean how much stadium can you get??? but plenty of MLS talk). Torn between here and the Blog thread. http://sportingtimes.net/articles/sitting-down-with-don-garber/
