I wonder how many times he's actually seen Mix or Bedoya play. When it comes down to it, all we're really debating here are bubble players. Look, based on what I've seen of Rogers, I probably wouldn't have brought him either, but it's hardly the travesty some are making it out to be. Of the three surprises, Rogers is the biggest head-scratcher. Perfectly legitimate reasons for both Adu and Wondo to make it though. After hearing what happened with Chandler, I'm quite comfortable with what Bradley brought. Now the fun part begins.
Not saying I believe this is Bob's Bradley's thinking, but arguing that the last couple roster spots are largely irrelevant to our chances of success in a tournament such as this one (with such a shallow field) is not the same as arguing that the last couple roster spots are irrelevant entirely. You could believe the former but still think players with longer term potential would benefit from an extended camp (and maybe some game time) with our A team. In the case of those players whose seasons continue through the Gold Cup (especially younger, developing players such as Mix, Bedoya, and maybe even Bunbury), you might then argue that they would benefit more from regular club playing time than from an extended camp or garbage time against Panama.
Talking about when Charlie was in Scandinavia missing important time with his team while he was playing with the Nats...past Charlie not present Heist.
I dont know. Nurnberg has two highly talented German-Americans that have both stated how excited they are for playing for the US or they want to play for the US, and these two players are also good friends. It would be odd for Chandler to be undecided....
I understand the concept, thanks. As for the impact they will have, we don't know. For a major tournament we should NEVER say a bad callup or an omission is no big deal because they won't play much. Injuries and cards happen. Bob should be calling up the players that are the best we have and we shouldn't hesitate to advocate that he do and don't hesitate to criticize when he doesn't, especially for a major tournament.
You don't know what goes on behind closed doors. And a call-up that sees no playing time doesn't impact US results in any way shape or form. This isn't rocket science.
But apparently seeing more than one future scenario is rocket science. Feel free to say a call-up or omission didn't matter afterward but not before we know how things will play out.
