While there are plenty of farmers that have that privilege, there are tons of farmers out there getting the short end of the stick plus they are so at mercy to the weather.

When I had my mortgage business, we started leasing heavy equipment to supplement our income. I had to take a ton of applications from farmers and it involved examining their Schedule Cs and Balance Sheets and a lot of these guys are struggling. It was very hard to get these guys approved for anything and if they did, they had to pay a high interest rate.

While I am not a huge supporter of farmers or anything, I am glad there are events like this to raise money and awareness to support the people that grow our food. Just like most industries, the big guys are squeezing out the little guys.

I do encourage people to go to farmer's markets whenever possible. This has become a huge source of revenue for the smaller, local farmers.

and that whole flood plain up and down the Mississippi right now, while very fertile land to farm on, is totally under water, which makes it very fertile ground in the future, but this year and next is shot to shit.

I seem to recall seeing somewhere that one of the uses being mulled over for the LSP plaza is farmer's markets. That would tie in pretty well with the FarmAid concert.

(topic drift warning...) I recently watched the film "Food Inc." with my dad, who grew up on a farm in the 50s and 60s. It was quite an eye opener and a far cry from how things worked when he was farming. Definitely a case of the big guys squeezing out the little guys.

Since I live on the East side of Missouri and in the middle of the flooding I thought I'd pipe up.

Pictures really don't do it justice, the amount of water overtaking the land. In my county alone, we received over 20 inches of rain in April. My mothers house, 28 inches. I think our average is around 4.5 inches.

Hell I picked up over 100 bass out of her backyard as the pond overflowed during one of the heavier weekend down pours. But yea, there is still alot of farmland that won't be planted this year.

Though most (barring next years flooding/rains) should be replanted. The big thing now is the some of the cost of fixing the roads that have been under water or became infested with "sand boils".

Well since the thread has gone here anyway....
I just got back from an emergency management conference (its what I do), and TRUST ME, there are a lot of farmers and familys that need help this year. The floods are devestating. Its not just what was lost now. The floods will cause delays in planting crops throught the year. Some land will not be useable for years to come. If you don't feel pity for people that chose to live in floodplains, at least look out for number one and feel pity for your pocket book. You will pay more at the grocery store for some items due to all of this! Personallyl, I dont like moving a game for Farm Aid. Professionally I understand the need for it and how it effects/helps us all.

Back to the jersey sponsor...I think we have been through 30-60 days 30-60 times now. Any of you blogger types hearing anything new on this front?

Not surprising. They sell product in only EDIT: 4 or 5 MLS markets outside KC, and have only partial distribution in all of them, according to their website. We play those at most 10 times in a year and we would have been asking a half million dollars. I'm guessing they didn't need to consult their calculator on that one.

Both of Houston's sponsors have been local Houston companies that had virtually no presence outside Houston.

And the same can be said to a lesser degree of Alaska Airlines, BMO and Bell Canada, they all have a limited footprint outside their home markets. Reasonable minds can disagree on it, but I would have to at the very least question the wisdom of Greenstar and Amigo. That just makes little sense to me, considering they are only buying half the eyeballs - less than half if the game is nationally televised.

Houston is a much, much larger market than we are. I dont see a company that is exclusive to KC spending that much on our jersey.

I tweeted my prediction a week or so back - but since the thread has returned I will state what I tweeted: Trader Joe's.

I was told today that we have two companies bidding on our sponsorship and that we would not only be pleased with either but shocked that these companies even want to be our jersey sponsor. From I heard, it sounds like we are going to have a good sponsor.

A person I was with is thinking that it is going to be Google Fiber which has been mentioned on here. Now that KCMO is getting in on that, it is starting to sound like a real possibility.

I guess at this point, I will believe it when I finally see something. It has been a long time of people saying we have something pending. I have been holding off to get an authentic jersey just in case something happens before the first home game.

I still don't see it as a possibility but I'll be damned if there wasn't Google ads on the video board. They just don't advertise, it's weird.

If you have companies engaged in a bidding war and it takes awhile to get a counteroffer then i can see why it is taking so long. Why rush it if you have companies upping their offers trying to get the sponsorship, this works in the team's favor. The team has nothing to gain from delaying it unless this is the case.

Why do they need to advertise? Is there anyone that doesnt use Google that hasnt made the choice not too? It's Google Fiber that could use some brand building and it would be a perfect fit.

Legitimacy in sport is defined by the amount of revenue they supply. An $800k RSL class deal would suck .....

I get your point but I'd rather have Google at 800k than Rio Tinto or Xango at 800k- I don't recall what Herbalife's deal was with the Gals but I would pick Google at 800k over Herbalife at 1m from a fan perspective. I personally like logos on jerseys instead of text, thus I like the VW on DCU.

    QFT.

Honestly, if its two companies bidding each other, thus potentially driving up the cost, it will totally be worth the wait. The more money we get out of this the better. And if its...

    Then thats really awesome.

Even if its not Google, I'm taking their word that we'll like it. They wouldn't say that if Bimbo was one of the bidders. Not that I have anything against their bread, as I once bought a loaf and it was, well... bread.

I see commercials all the time for milk... Do *they* really need to advertise?

(Who are these people that have never heard of milk?)

If the FO is still negotiating a deal, I cannot imagine how ones with the sponsor are going to be available anytime soon.

Also, I do not understand why Adidas cannot churn out the version without the sponsor. Yeah, the decision to re-brand has an impact, but that's been, what, 6 months ago? Adidas is a big company and I would think that they should be able to handle this type of issue. Maybe something else is in-play here. A third version in black. :D

What do you mean? Versions without the sponsor are available. They had every one you could get yesterday.
