http://www.nycosmos.com/featured/cosmos-join-usl/ Abridged Season in 2011 (not eligible for US Open Cup) Full Season in 2012. Headed by Gio.
Good to hear - gives fans an option to go out and watch until they get an MLS team going - because at this point - thats got to be 2014 at the earliest. Wonder where the PDL team will play?
I wonder where it will be, will it change from 2011 and 2012 (when they are 100% in PDL)? Could they play at Met Oval or Aviator, or are there some territorial concerns with the Knights? For PDL, I guess they can play at any HS field or smaller college field, correct? That gives them a lot more options like LIU Brooklyn's field or something (which I would love).
Probably the Met Oval or somewhere in Queens away from public transportation where it will be inconvenient for me.... Here is the article on USL http://www.uslsoccer.com/home/523307.html Anyway, nice to hear that another piece of the Cosmos foundation is coming in place! I thought the Cosmos were a scam to just sell shirts
Anyone else feel like we should do something big for there first game. Or at least try and get a bunch of people out there? It would be amazing if they would play at Columbia's field. (I can see it from my window)
Im down - lets see where they play - I think it will be close the academy in Queens but lets see how it plays out.
Boy, you really stretched your cognitive reasoning abilities to the maximum to come up with that one! Well done, you're almost ready for the PSATs!
It really doesn't matter to me as long as it's accessible via public transit (i.e. subway). But I could imagine that wherever the potential MLS stadium will be is where they want to play the PDL team- to begin with (once the MLS team comes, I wouldn't blame them if they want to tap another market in the area). Therefore, if the Cosmos are targeting east of the East River for MLS, then I would expect them to want the PDL team in BK or Queens. And since PDL isn't necessarily MLS or USL, it wouldn't need to have a higher capacity for a field and thus can field a team in more locations than previously thought of. I hope to hear news about a potential site soon. I can't wait to practice songs.
I don't agree here. The PDL team will end up wherever it's most convenient to have them. I don't think it will have any relation to wherever the MLS stadium will end up. Considering how utterly important a new stadium in the city is to getting a team, every single potential place in the city is likely being looked into (at least if the people running the Cosmos have any sense). Anyway, I'll likely go to a match for this PDL team, wherever they will play. It helps to be a lazy college student with a lot of time.
Does this mean that one of the exhibition games for the PDL team will be at Columbia University? From article (http://oceancityfc.com/oceancityfcpdl/523511.html): If so, heaven for this kid. I have a feeling these exhibition games will move around.
LMAO. I'm gonna wear my Reading jersey to show support for Ocean City* while sitting in the Cosmos supporters section! (Ocean City is affiliated with Reading FC, as part of the affiliation Ocean City has the same colors and crest as Reading.)
I can't tell you how excited I am about this. I live up the block, literally, from Cy Donnelly Stadium, where the Rough Riders play all their home matches...I can't wait to walk up the road when the Cosmos take the pitch. **EDIT: I'd offer to host a BBQ or something on that day, but my wife and my landlord would be PISSED if I had a few hundred people over to the casa. I'll look for a good local bar/grill/pub and suggest we all meet up when the day comes closer.**
PDL has a sense of how soccer is around the world. I feel like I can legitimately go to every game regardless of if they are home or away, where they play home games. Don't we have Westchester, BK, LIRR connections?
Last game at CY Donnelly stadium we just hung out in the Parking lot..when the Cosmos start playing..I can see us getting a bus for these trips
Who will be playing for the Cosmos ? There haven't been any tryouts as far as I know, and I guess Bogicevic, Durgan and Eskandarian are not about to un-retire
http://www.nycosmos.com/featured/cosmos-join-usl/ The answer is right in the title of the article that the Cosmos used to annouce the PDL team...
Am I missing something, or do they not have a U23 team? Which means the original question is still unanswered, Who will be playing for the Cosmos?
We were due to have a meeting with the Cosmos last week but they pushed it back - i guess the details are not final yet - as soon as they are - we will let you all know what the plan is.
