Everyone knows the blame is 3-fold and that the biggest obstacle is that PDX and Vancouver cannot hold more than 500 away supporters. We have to have uniform rules and what is fair need to be fair. What kind of example is it to Sounders away supporters that the Sounders open up the whole stadium for Portland and Vancouver and those cities cannot return the favor. I tried to get one of the 500 away tickets to Portland and they sold out in 28 minutes. All 3 of these teams are looking out for their home-field advantage.
Considering recent events in MLS, and Rogers goal tally against the grenola boys (something like 10), I would think we would see an actual invasion of Washington from the TA if Roger was too score and manage to snap Cooper's leg.
Vancouver has been tarping off 5,000 seats a game. Vancouver can indeed hold more than 500 away supporters.
i was fixing to say the same thing lol. The northwest seems to LOVE them some tarp! Seattle makes sense, but why Vancouver, and especially why Portland? If lack of concessions or restrooms are the issue, then why not just build more concessions and restrooms?
$$$ and space constraints because it's a downtown stadium. You can see the trains go by on the TV during the game. Also, though I say all 3 clubs have tarped off seats, there are of course some logistical problems due to season ticket holders with seats in close proximity to the designated away sections.

Well the sport is awful huge in portland plus it's a relatively small market. Seattle is quite impressive however. Vancouver really needs to expand their stadium.
Legitimate question for the PDX fans: why in the world are they tarping off seats there? That just makes no sense to me at all.
If you'd ever had to take a piss at a nearly full PGE you'd hug whoever decided to tarp off the seats.
Crowd control. They are trying to measure how many people the stadium is capable of supporting. They started with 18,627. If they believe the stadium is capable of handling more then they will start to move the tarps back. Sections 201, 211, and 215 have views that are so bad they should never be uncovered.
While in year 1 we had no radio shows, year 2 brought Radio Sounders to KJR and now in year 3 we have three shows, that one, Arlo White's Thursday show and Sounders Weekly Saturdays at 8am on ESPN Radio. So we went from none in year one to three in year three. That's pretty good. Plus we always had a weekly wrap up show on TV "Seattle Sounders Weekly" on KONG. How many MLS teams have a weekly highlights show on a local over the air TV channel?
He said US football derby. Football doesn't mean MLS. There's more to the sport than MLS. It's the oldest rivalry in US Football/Soccer. No arguments there.
good god this has gone off topic! Heres a better question; why are portland/seattle the only cities to cause beaten horse online flame wars wherever their names are mentioned? just to attempt to get us back on track, the Red Bulls are out there in the general sports media here in New York, just not strikingly so. There are brief mentions of who they're playing on any given day as well as the results of a game on the radio, and if I wear a jersey people sometimes will recognize who the team is. But theres no real talk of it on the radio shows here, which I believe is mostly spurned from the fact that sports analyzers and talk show hosts are only familiar with the big four of american sports. I think they'll countinue ignoring the team due to their ignorance of the sport, at least until something comes along to force them to. Its so weird, the red bulls are almost at a point where their existance is common knowledge, but i think its the ny sports medias lack of knowledge or apathy about any non- baseball, football, basketball or hockey teamsport thats holding them back. Oh and i belive i've seen a st.petersburg paper with an entire page on a rowdies game, I just wanted give another example of local soccer in the media.
Until people can imagine themselves wearing a soccer jersey with Red Bull plastered all over it.......................... To this day most non soccer sports fans that I come in contact with remember the name Metrostars but have no clue that Red Bull is not just a drink.
People will get mad at me for mentioning this but when I lived in NYC and tried to get my friends to go out to see a team named after a soft drink it was impossible. They were just casual sports fans and not soccer people but I can offer anecdotal evidence that many people just can't get past the name. Next time I am in town I'll try offering to buy them two beers if they go to the game with me
THANK GOD THAT PORTLAND AND SEATTLE INVENTED SOCCER AND RESCUED THE MSL!!!!1!11!1one1111!!!!!eleven!!1!1!
