Ok so I found what he said

    Reinaldo Rueda

    http://www.eluniverso.com/2011/05/08/1/1372/felipao-convence-dt-rueda.html

    Is he on crack?

Considering the fact that Rueda has been employing the "lone striker" system and how well Caicedo has been doing in Levante as a lone striker, I don't get how, as a manager, he wouldn't want to have such a player at his disposal.

I hope he reconsiders and at least gives him a chance...

I'm not shocked.. haven't you seen how his teams play? Rueda plays not to lose which means everyone defends which Felipao and Guerron absolutely do not do. He only attacks when Ecuador is losing or when he has a piece of arepa stuck in his asshole.

That gol surely added a few millions to his pricetag. Slow ass Benzema has 13 goals too and playing for a better team.

Maybe if Rueda picks him, he'll be able to play 10 straight. I mean, how is he supposed to play 10 staright without a call up.

Rueda - what a laughable excuse.

No, the way I interpreted it, he said that Felipao shouldn't be automatically considered until he performs consistently for the NT. The press seemed to interpret that as saying that he wouldn't be called up. I think Rueda is right to say what he did - everybody has to earn their place by performing on the NT, not just assume they will be called up because they play in a "big" league.

It might have been a fair statement to say prior to yesterday. But after seeing what Caicedo did to Pique throughout the game, Rueda must be an utter imbecile to not call him up.

Re: Felipe Caicedo- News at Levante UD

    Agreed.

But he is not only playing in Spain, he is a top 10 striker there. Has scored the same number of goals as Pedro and Benzema. Taking out Ronaldo/Messi he is 5 goals away from the top scorer (Rossi and Villa).

He should be called up. I'm not saying start the guy, but at least take him to Argentina.

seriously doubt it. That sh*t would have been publicized every where if that were true and Felipe would have said something about it. If Rueda would do something like that, it'd be clear as day that his main goal is to screw us over.

I'm saying it's ridiculous not to start him. I couldn't name one other person that deserves an opportunity to start more than him and Benitez.

Yeah, anyway... There was just no way Rueda wouldn't have him on our team.. I am glad an error was made on the part of the media and not Rueda. November? You'd think they would mention that small fact.

I agree he deserves to start - on paper. But he hasn't played in any friendlies under Rueda, has he? He was injured the last FIFA break, which would have been his first match for Ecuador since the qualifiers in 2009. I think these upcoming matches against Canada, Greece and Mexico, hopefully he can prove that his season wasn't a one-off and start doing it on the NT level.

Its all about confidence with Caicedo and Chucho. Both have the talent, they just need consistensy. Caicedo will be our Leading goal scorer in copa america if given the chance, and in the qualifiers. Quote me on this.

Re: Felipe Caicedo- News at Levante UD

In my view, they still both need instincts. Like I always said, we just need someone who knows where to be to tap it in. Look at Chicharito, he does nothing all game and then all of a sudden he scores an important goal.

Chucho used to only score goals where he was dribbling past everyone and the keeper. Caicedo's goals were all about outmuscling defenders on the way to the goal. That's doing it the HARD way, which is why neither of them could pull it off against top-level defenses. Now things seem to have changed - Chucho's scoring a lot of goals now by anticipating the passes and making the right runs. Caicedo still has to knock down his opponents because he's all alone up-front, but at least when he does get his chance, he has been putting them away consistently.

I hope for the sake of the NT that Caicedo goes to a solid club in La Liga, maybe one that is playing Europa League, and that Chucho gets another opportunity in Europe so that he can be motivated again.

Re: Felipe Caicedo- News at Levante UD

I think both Caicedo and Benitez motivation was that they were gonna be "forgotten" after their horrible qualifier they had and with the NT under a process of renovation and a new coach. That has motivated them to better themselves to once again be taken into consideration. Benitez had 2 good seasons in Santos before going to Birmingham, but the one I saw in the Apertura 2010 in Mexico was a totally different player. After he had scored his 4th or 5th goal i started noticing the difference in the way he anticipated plays, finished them, positioned himself really well, and how he was calm in front of goal and didn't let the pressure get to him. The Benitez from before was a crazy dribbling machine that seemed nervous and pressured to shoot the ball to wherever crossing his fingers hoping it would go into the net. Like Manolo said, they both played futbol "the hard way". They complicated themselves. Too much of that bullcrap waste of time dribbling and no goals. I HATED that Benitez. And I HATED that slow, predictable Caicedo that would get lost after the first half in every game.

Re: Felipe Caicedo- News at Levante UD

Rueda done lost his mind I mean what is he thinking?? Caicedo in La Liga scroing goals in a team like Levante where he plays as a loan striker... he is clearly proven himself worthy of being on the NT wtf more can he do that is just ridiculous. This is obviously not the Caicedo of old who hardly played on his club and showed immaturity he has obviously improved and become a better player as would be expected from young player. I guess he realized how absurd his comments were and tried to cover it up by denying he made them but now he just looks like a total ass...
