I noted the obnoxious taunting after the goal. I also noted the cold reaction of Beckham to being jumped upon by Donovan. Were the juicy anti-Beckham quotes in The Beckham Experiment what Teddy Kennedy would have called "the pangs of unrequited love"?

Man..those throwback vids...becks has lost his quickness...

Oh yeah, Donovan is a brat and Luke Rodgers is an anon. meathead.

I'll have to side with LD on this one. He is our brat.

Donovan behaves like someone who knows he owns the league he plays in, and in large part he's correct.

Beckham has lost a step or two, certainly. He's not quite at Blanco levels of immobility, but he's getting closer all the time.

true but part of what made Blanco so spectacular for the fire was the fact that he could still be the best player on the field despite barely being able to waddle. Beckham, not so much.

Landon's always had an edge to him. When he came in the league at 17 he was yapping about how nobody in the league could stop him. And it's 10 years later and he's basically been proven right.

As far as Rodgers goes, whole lot of nothing there. I'm certain MLS players have said this about each other for years...the league's just now in a place where a newspaper thinks it will generate interest.

Isn't this pretty much an every day run of the mill occurrence in professional games between players on opposing teams?

I really don't see what the big deal is.

    They are both short.

With the space that NY gave him on Saturday night, Becks looked like a star again. I haven't seen him connect so many balls all season.

This is all lame. It's not like this is Reggie Miller/John Starks level trash talking here. It's an entitled bitch and an enforcer going at it, more like Sidney Crosby vs. Keith Ballard.

Yeah but it's fun. With Dema Kovalenko retired the league needs a crazy man who starts shit. I just hope that baldheaded talentless midget doesn't break anyone's leg... And I hope Luke Rodgers doesn't hurt anyone either. :p

By the way I wonder what Donovan and Henry were saying to each other aswell.

I am not a Beckham supporter however he was easily the best player for LA when they played RB Saturday night. He continues to do what he does best and play in extremely dangerous balls. That is all the man ever did and that is what he still does.

Maybe I'm a prick too, but I LIKE the Landon that played Saturday. The prick with a chip on his shoulder actually stirring up shit and getting under peoples skin. Beats the heck out of the Landycakes version that shows up to half the games. FWIW, Im also gonna give Rodgers a close look now too, as he had the cajones to act just like Landon and stir things up. They may both be nice guys off the field, but I could give two $h!ts about how they are off the field, all I care about is what I saw on Saturday and they both provided what I wanted to see. Passionate hard-nosed play. They can have their soap-opera twitter lovers spat for the next few months. I don't care. So long as their next meeting they both show up and go at it instead of shaking hands and making nice. This kind of passion is what the league needs. Not the communist single entity "hey we all really work for the same boss" mentality. Thats my take anyhow. Love it or hate it the two of them accomplished something that is too rare in the league....high level passion and agression.

So he's becoming Carlos Valerrama 2.0? Sorry David, none of your hairstyles matched El Pibe.

    RULE ONE OF REF EVALUATION:
Any ref who gives more cards for dissent than for bad fouls is among the worst refs in terms of actually recognizing fouls.

    RULE TWO:
The number of broken ankles increases proportionally to the ratio of cards given for dissent to cards given for fouls.

Well obviously I'd be giving out 8-10 cards a games for bad fouls, 7 for dissent :D :p

But seriously its just a twisted fantasy, I'd never ACTUALLY do that.

That's the weirdest Landon attack I've ever seen...and I've been on bigsoccer forever, so I've seen a shitload of Landon attacks.

What I love about Landon is that he wears his emotions on his sleeve, and you don't always know what he's going to say.

Dempsey has been put up there, both on bigsoccer and just in general, as the anti-Landon. And they really do have a huge yin and yang thing going. There are lots and lots of things I like about Dempsey, but on this one count, Dempsey has all the personality of Huey Lewis and the News. Nothing surprising from him. Landon's a waaaay better interview, a more interesting public person.

If I am the CR, Will Johnson is getting a caution for this. Maybe MLS considers it to be good entertainment. They don't have any problem advertising Rodgers antics.

BTW, can those RSL announcers be sure that Saborio would have ever gotten another touch on the ball? Their screams for a red card deserve another caution.

What this rivalry needs is for LA to pick up a striker. Sign Drogba or pick up Kenny Cooper or Bunbury for JPA and a bag of peanuts.

Alex Bunbury, maybe. I love JPA, but at this point he's an old, broken-down piece of meat. Zero trade value.

Waitaminnit. LR insults LD, and from what I'm hearing in this thread, LD was somehow wrong in saying something equally insulting back?!

So what if Donovan got a little fiesty?! I like seeing some players with a little ego to them. It's a refreshing difference from the monotony he usually gives us (I will admit asking for spousal support was douchey on his part). It makes the league interesting. And it makes our players go out there with a little more intensity. For the longest time, I thought Dempsey was the only one on the field that could show some grittiness. I may not like the Galaxy, but hell yeah Lando, tell him who he's messing with. :D

Yah, I'm on Donovan's side with this one. :p

I don't think there's anything wrong with either of them in this.

Rodgers (as NY fans have known, and more folks are finding out) is rough around the edges and certainly not afraid to mix it up. So a reporter asks him what he thinks of LD, and unsuprisingly you get a foul language laced knock on him for stuff LD has always been known for. Is Rodgers out of line? Yup....but that's Rodgers. The RBs had to wait to get him becuase he had visa delays over bar fights in england. If anything, antics like this will get him more attention on a team already filled with attention getters.

LD responds exactly as the more established and well known player should. A simple "Who's this guy?" and moves on.

Hats off to both of them. Both are pretty much correct in their opinions, and a little extra spice between teams will be a welcome change.
