Re: Why do the Quakes need Brown?

    C.J. Brown, absolutely.

    Adin Brown, why not?

    Chris Brown? Huh?

Can he fill an outside midfield role?

Is this the end for Ian Russell?

Is this a vote of no confidence (yet) for Arturo Alvarez?

Is this a signal that Ramiro Corrales will be spending more time at the back?

Re: The Official Chris Brown thread

Why did a mod have to change this thread title from something that indicates something new has occured to a generic "Official" thread? As if we need more official threads to stifle discussion.

I see this as the end of ian Russell and a sign that Alvarez just isn't ready yet...

that being said, it is the defense that needs attention, especially if swing-and-a-miss Robinson doesn't find his form...

Probably outside midfield. Quakes converted Manny Lagos from forward to midfield. They hope to do the same possibly.

Re: The Official Chris Brown thread

There were two or three Chris Brown threads here that were started within minutes of each other. Though not a perfect solution, combining them into one was called for.

The official threads have never stifled discussion before.

That's kinda what I thought too after hearing about this trade, but it sort of makes sense.

It allows Corrales and/or Mullan to be moved into a defensive back position if need be (especially by the looks of the injuries so far this season).

At least it doesn't take up an SI slot. ;)

Wasn't Brown just traded to New England toward the end of last season? He had a hat-trick in his first game with NE, but did he do anything afterward?

Re: The Official Chris Brown thread

From a Revs point of view, Brown was pretty much in a position where he wasn't going to get much playing time. He was the 4th forward, plus with Jeremiah White returning to the states, he'll fill that spot at a cheaper (dev spot) price. I'm wondering what these future considerations are though.

Re: The Official Chris Brown thread

Here's a vote that the "Official" threads DO stifle discussion. I understand they streamline clutter, but they also keep certain issues from getting a full airing. Just my .02 of course...

Brown is both an outside mid and a forward. But I don't remember him ever playing left mid, and I don't think much of his left foot for that matter. Hard to say how he'll fit in.

I can imagine Quakes' management being pretty down on Russell after his miserable performance v. DC, though one game ain't all that much to go on. Was he pretty bad in the CCC as well?

Maybe they're planning on converting Brown to right back?

Re: The Official Chris Brown thread

I think they do. One of the functions this board serves is dissemination of news and I think that's hampered by the preponderance of "official" threads.

Put it this way -- I think people would be better informed by a thread called "Quakes trade for Chris Brown" and subsequent threads about his performance, etc., than they are by "The Official Chris Brown thread."

Re: The Official Chris Brown thread

I doubt Chris Brown will be used as a forward. My money's on outside mid or outside back. Given the injury situation and problems in our defense, I wouldn't be overly surprised to see him make appearances there. Either way, he's a guy who can attack. Small rosters mean that versatile players are especially valuable in MLS.

What might be more interesting is the player we drop. I doubt it'll be a guy like Russell, who started our opener. More likely to be a fringe player or someone whose injury turned out worse than initially thought.

I join with the estimable Noah Elliot, Jay Hipps, Flashman and other who think "Offical" threads stiffle the discussion.

Sorry Goodie. There's may be a place for them, but they shouldn't be allowed to swallow up all discussion about an individual.

I second this motion. There's news...then there's discussion. The news is the acquisition. The discussion could follow in an "official" player thread.

Consider this...I know this is a stretch, but less enlightened folk may skip over "The Official Chris Brown Thread" thinking "why should I read a thread about an opposing player?"...not knowing that he's been acquired.

All in favor...signify by saying "aye"...

Yes, they have. Several regulars have posted, and others have told me personally, how they've missed "news" because it was buried in a player's "Official" thread. I know if I wasn't a mod, I'd avoid those threads as well.

It's a new season, let's knock off that bullcrap.

That first game for NE, Brown completely dismantled the Fire which was not an easy task last year, MLS Cup notwithstanding.

The guy obviously has potential. Maybe he's just been in the wrong system so far. When he wasn't hurt, that is. He sure put a hurting on us last year.
