    Burch at 90K
    Fred at 157K
    Ngwenya at 156K*
    Simms at 179K

So we have ~$500k+ of cap space. The summer transfer window should be interesting.

Don't forget we're paying some portion of Perkins 280K salary (he's Portland's highest paid player). And Kasper is still in the Front Office.

I'm surprised at Ngwenya's salary ($156,000) because he was making $72,000when we selected him in the reentry draft, and I thought that players selected in that stage were resigned at the same salary. Whatever the circumstances, he's overpaid IMO.

I had already accounted for that. I estimated $100k and that left ~$500k.

When the Reentry Draft list came out the only bargains I saw were Ryan Cochrane and Joseph Ngwenya, at $72,000. How in hell did we end up more than doubling his pay?

That guy was just expressing his incredulity at the figure. There's no evidence anywhere to suggest it's a mistake. It's just a totally ridiculous salary. I'd like to think the report is a mistake, but there's no actual reason to believe the report is wrong. In fact, considering the source, I'm thinking it's correct. (The mistake may have been DCU, for some inane reason, paying him double what he made in Houston!)

Blame the DCU brain-dead-trust on that one.

The MLS salary list also has Omar Bravo's salary for Sporting Kansas City at $120k; $170k guaranteed. Since he's a DP, there's no way that's right. That lends credence to the possibility that Ngwenya's salary is incorrect, since there's no way Ngwenya's salary is more than Omar Bravo's.

There might be transfer money involved. That's how Saborio became a DP with Salt Lake.

That's a good point, and thanks for the correction/reminder. It also explains why Fabian Castillo of FCD is a DP, too, even though his salary's $42k (his transfer fee was $800k).

I could be wrong, but I believe we pay *up to* his salary with us, so if he makes less with LA than he did with us (likely) we're still on that hook.

Impact our DP bugdet perhaps, but not our salary cap.

NY and LA have 3 DP's. Is anyone suggesting that the regular salary budget is over the cap?

NY only has two - DeRo isn't a DP.

The full list of MLS DPs:

LA - Juan Pablo Angel, David Beckham, Landon Donovan
NY - Thierry Henry, Rafa Marquez
Seattle - Alvaro Fernandez, Fredy Montero
FCD - Fabian Castillo, David Ferreira
    DCU - Branko Boskovic
    SKC - Omar Bravo
    TFC - Julian de Guzman
    RSL - Alvaro Saborio
    Vancouver - Eric Hassli
    Portland - Diego Chara
    Columbus - Andres Mendoza

Two Salaries that stick out for me are Q' and Burch, and possibly SImms.

First 2 pretty high for what they do for us, Q' is basically a sub for us. Burch isnt that LB we always wanted out of him, and for close to 100k isnt worth it.

Simms too with Dax, is replaceable also with King being able to play similar but only 1/3 the price.

WHat do you guys think? I think that could open us up to bringing a more 'agressive' central mid to replace the hurt Branko.

While there are a handful that are a little high for value, mostly I would say that there are many more who are low and a good deal.

I have to think Ngwenya is supposed to be 56 not 156.

I could live without Burch or Simms (or Burch and Simms) as long as we got value in return, but I would keep Tino. Yes, he's a sub, but a very valuable sub, since you can't expect Najar and Pontius to go 90 every match. (Notice that they've been subbed out - for Tino - in the last two matches.) Moreover, I don't think we could get much for Tino, because I believe that proximity to his home base - the Baltimore/Washington area - is crucial to his continued recovery. I think other teams know that and would be wary about trading for him. Tino's passing and corners, along with his passion, are worth holding on to.

Agreed. Given that Boskovic is 4-6 months away from playing again, as long as all goes well with his knee op.... Since DC seems to have cap space, I'd like to see an aggressive move/moves for a creative central midfielder in the summer transfer window. If the team stays healthy and hangs in the playoff hunt until then, maybe the boys could make a decent run.

Honestly, I'd be very happy if they didn't emphasize the 'creative' part of that player.

If they just unloaded Simms salary and picked up a really decent quality two way midfielder (seriously, a legitimate one), I think that person and Boskovic as a central pair would be excellent with the attacking options we have on the wings already. McCarty would be a nice backup for either of the two next year.

Add a strong CB and the spine would be complete. That would be playoff territory.

I agree with that. He is a great off the bench sub, but for what we are paying him... its ALOT for the role he I think will play for us in the future. 118k is a TON for a off the sub.... at best player.

At 75k or around there I'd be ok with him there.

    Yes.

We need a player playing for us who can create through balls, ahd stuff that charlie can fiinish, or Wolff'y.

Dax doesnt have that, nor does simms. Najar a Tad, but add in someone with more skill, age, and comfort in the middle... and we can have a pretty solid attack!
I know what you mean, I mean I just want someone that can do that for this team (create and setup) ANYWHERE regularly, and make the whole team play agressive offensive soccer. Dont care if he plays on the wing, from the foreward position, etc.

Branko had yet to convince me he was up to it until ironically the game that he scores twoand then gets hurti n the process.

We need someone that can run agressively through defenses, hold, and distribute form the middle. IMO BRanko wasnt fast or strong enough to do well in this league. In his prime, Etch' was quick, strong with the ball at his feet, and just great at earning fouls. Gallardo was similarly good with all, he also was wicked fast on the dribble.

We need someone who is comfortable with the ball, who can run quick at defenses, and score too from that midfield also.

I hope our team can get someone here with these qualities... if it takes a DP spot.. take it.

I really wish it was us who had 'koke', not Dynamo, cause that guy is class. But plays out of the supporting forward role in creating plays.
