agreed, i am not biased... seriously thought simms had a fine game in doing what he is supposed to do, he had many nice touches out of a tight space, and did not allow there midfield to dictate anything
He has a right to be depressed over the loss of Boskovic, because it deprives him of what could have been a threatening midfield of Najar, Boskovic, McCarty and Pontius. A Boskovic/McCarty pairing in the middle occured briefly at Soccerplex, but then Bosko got injured. Ben was mulling this pairing over before the LA match, because I asked him about it at an MSI coaches pre-game briefing, and he replied that Bosko playing ahead of Dax would make for an interesting central midfield - but now it won't happen. What would be interesting is to try to give Tino more minutes, perhaps by moving Pontius to AM with Dax as the holding midfielder and Andy and Tino on the wings. It's shocking how few minutes Tino has - until he entered in the second half he was something like 14th on the team in terms of minutes played. And yet he has played well when he is in there, and last night was one of his better appearances. He was picking out the diagonal runs and gave a great defensive effort.
Ethan White is the anchor of this defense and had another fine game... (minus the early gaff nearly leading to the opening goal for Seattle). You could really see how much we missed him during the game in Houston and New York matches. I would still love to see him and kitchen paired up regardless of their inexperience.. Kitchen does not belong on the right. Im not saying he didn't play a solid game, Korb just gives you so much more going forward.. Najar - MOTM We really need to be scouting in the upcoming month or so to add that attacking mid-mid... Its blatently obvious its not going to be developed from within..
Thanks for the reilef... jeez being at the right place not having to witness the Caps debacle.... well getting back on topic... MORE NAJAR!!! Good lord watching him there at rfk after such a long absence, and he got a post! that ball sticks to his feet like GLUE, just killer MORE NAJAR. Man if it wasn't for some killer saves we could have ran away with this with four maybe five goals last night. bummed about Pontius though... guess there has to be a hitch everytime...
Hamid had ice running through his veins last night. Well done sir you saved us at least 2 or 3 points!
Interestingly (if true, not verified), Tony Limarzi recently posted that this is the first time our two forwards have assisted each other on goals since 1996 when Raul Diaz Arce and wunderkind Steve Rammel did it
Sweet victory over FC Barf Bag. What the hell color is that? They look like giant grasshoppers. That color closely resembles something I left in a barf bag after a flight across Nebraska during t-storm season. Oh, and their Glee Club in the upper decks, you really do only sing when you're winning. The best part of last night was getting home to the TiVo and the Zounderz! broadcast of the match on Direct Kick. They have some English-sounding wanker who makes Christian Miles cry and write things in his diary with bitter envy. He makes Toronto's wanker teevee announcer sound like he was born within earshot of the Cockney Bells. Always fun to hear the other team's homer broadcasters eat it.
Najar? i would keep him out wide for the time being, but once he gets a little more rugged, I'd be more than happy seeing him in a floating role
I just have the feeling that by the time he gets more rugged (2012-2013) hes going to be on his way to Europe...
Enjoyed the game. Loved the win. But one win is no reason to plunge directly into a manic phase. Seattle was the better team for most of the match. DCU had exactly two wonderful moves forward and happily scored on both. Unless the quality of play improves across the board, you can't expect too many more wins.
Exactly two? We hit a bar and had a ball cleared off the line in the first half to go with the goal and in the second half another goal and a save from Keller with Davies barely missing the rebound plus at least one other chance for Davies to run on to a ball at the far post. http://www.mlssoccer.com/videos?catid=1822&id=14412
Yeah, there were two separate offside calls that the AR missed. Kind of shocking. Ok, not really shocking, but certainly irritating. It was a hard fought and deserved victory for a young team. Ethan White had an Erpen moment, but otherwise was outstanding. I like me some Woolard. He moved the ball so much more quickly than Burch does and he played solid, focused defense. I thought the team actually had moments where they moved the ball pretty well through midfield. I would love to see more of that. The win's a good step, but another challenge awaits against Dallas.
Christian Miles would blather on: "Ch-RRRRRRR-is Pontius is under the cosh right now. He was playing ever so well before taking a knock. Now the trainers are adjusting his kit as he lies on the pitch, and United will think they are on the back foot. They'd have to play a blinder to be in with a chance this evening. The gaffer will have sussed out some other possibilities, but would be chuffed to see him return as without him, the midfield organization will have gone all pear-shaped." (If anyone tells Miles about Cockney rhyming slang, I will hunt that person down and terminate him with extreme prejudice.)
In addition to his "work" with FSC, he used to do the play-by-play for Chivas USA. If you think his English afectations are bad, you should have heard his Spanish "accent": Carrrrlos Mendooooosaaah. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. asitis
Oh, I remember that clearly. Kathy and I still say "Mendoooosaaah" when that name is mentioned. At that time when he was getting really grilled on Spanish pronunciation, he would roll every 'R' he came across. My favorite was when he called the Chivas player "RRRRRRyan Suarrrrrrrez" That was also about the time when he mentioned a big EPL match and said that Man United would be playing ArrrsenAL (pronounced like the name of the Argentine team) I'm amazed he still has a job. Maybe he has a photogRRRRRaph of the HR guy at FSC.
So, I'm finally watching the match now -- 16 minutes in. Two comments: - A lot of passes from Najar failed to complete; but most of them are because someone else failed to move to the right place, not because he passed poorly. - After hearing the Sounders' PBP man for a few matches now, I've just realized who he sounds like:
