has a team from CONCACAF ever done well in the final? And if this is the reasoning then i would think that they would do everything they can to get the best team to represent.

And, if CONCACAF thinks that the Mexicans don't pay any attention to this and the American fans do (present company excepted of course) then they are clueless. :)

My guess is that many in Mexico just can't stomach an American team beating one of theirs straight up. Too hard on their machismo.

Look--I am confused. Do you guys want to play this game or not? Would you view it as an accomplishment to win? Or would you rather go back and try to squeak in to your big, bad playoffs where you will get more worthy competition? If we win tomorrow, we will have gotten past the two FMF teams that made the semis (and handily dispatched the other two FMF teams on their way to the semis...).

But if you don't care about this thing, why the multiple conspiracy theories about a rigged draw?

actually i think its the opposite, RSL has a perfect mark of 4 wins in 4 games, also you don´t have the pressure of having good results in the last weeks to be in playoff zone.

Monterrey has 6 wins, 5 loses, 5 ties, needs a win this saturday to make it to the playoffs and has had 2 games each week since April´s start :(

The best performance, i think, was Necaxa´s 3rd place in 2000

The mayority of the mexicans dont care about CCL, because they have the idea that always a Mexican team will win, so they don´t go to the stadiums or watch the games on TV

but you´re also right, we (Rayados) have been told by fans of other teams, that if we lose, that will be the biggest disapointment in mexican football, so you can know the perception of some fans about MLS teams
    i explained it up there

Yes... we have to keep some sobriety about this thing. Far from in the bag. This will be a tough test for our boys. I think they are up to it, ready for it, and will prevail... but, anything can happen.

We have to remember where we were just a few years ago. Now, we are on the verge of the CWC. Even if we don't make it, we have made huge strides and have brought great respect on ourselves and MLS.

Maybe CONCACAF scripted it to make sure the final was not a RSL v. Columbus Crew affair....

Anyway, I have trouble buying into a line of reasoning that says something important to UEFA clubs is not important to Mexican clubs. If there is such a sentiment, then it's probably because Mexicans are used to Mexican clubs winning CONCACAF to the point that it's not fully appreciated.

In 2005, Saprissa took third. Guess who was on that team?

And it's been such a big focus in the US?

Two teams have finished 3rd place. Saprissa was one. I think the other was Pachuca, but don't quote me.

This doesn't make sense. The draw was done before RSL beat Saprissa. Or was that a conspiracy, too?

If Davino is in, we win. Game over.

For Monterrey. I think they will, however, be surprised at how different RSL plays at home.

...Yeah, I think I'm gonna go ahead and skip this place until shite dies down a tad.

Best wishes to RSL - But I'm still gunning for Monterrey.

Saborio, Sabrio also played in Monterrey so I know much of his history
i dont know, you tell me

I will have to quote you
it was Necaxa in 2000 beating Man Utd and Real Madrid

I never said it was a conspiracy

Probably, sometimes he is Monterrey´s best defender, other times he is a joke

    i hope not :)

Just like last game, it will boil down to this: Is RSL's offense able to do a better job unraveling Monterrey's defense compared to Monterrey's stronger offense attempting to unravel RSL's better defense? What we saw last match was a properly earned draw in their house. Given home field advantages, and the opportunity to fine tune for both teams, I think the most likely outcome is RSL 2:1 Monterrey

There's no question that Mexico has a far stronger soccer tradition.

We're peasants at the door, begging for scraps. As such, anything is something.

Like with the national team, the Club rivalries will become legitimate when the US teams are consistently competitive - winning their share of games.

Right now RSL is looking at a trend of one, which is not even a trend...but all trends have to get their start somewhere, might as well be now.

Let's hope for a good contest. I do think the cold will help us. Monterrey seems to be going up hill on many fronts...

Still, they're the best team we've played in CCL so far. Better than Cruz Azul, Columbus, Toronto, Arabe Unido, or Saprissa.

I have to say that Free Glass and Rayado23 have been pretty chill, so I hope you keep posting around here the Monterrey perspective. Best of luck to your guys.

Everyone seems to forget that without a questionable penalty call against Cruz late this team Monterray would not be where they are.

Thank god this thing starts in about 24 hours because I don't think I can stomach any more shit about how superior Mexican soccer is and how RSL really should not even be in this match.

And you dominated in Monterray, and yet RSL came away with the away draw. Tomorrow will decide who deserves the trip to Japan, I hope it is decided by the player's and not a over zealous ref as was the case in Monterray vs Cruz Azul match.

I would not take anything away from MTY. They straight up outplayed RSL last match and RSL was lucky to pull a draw. I think the altitude thing is way over expected, the FMF has half its teams at altitudes well above what SLC is. It will be a tough match. I do think that RSL will come out punching and won't melt like they did in the heat. That won't be a factor tomorrow. I am excited to watch and hope taht at the end of it all, it's at least a fair game that's evenly played.

I have the same eerie feeling now that I had the night before the Cruz Azul game at RioT. The board seems to have it too. Cautious optimism mixed with negativity, hope mixed with doom. I think the score ended up 3-1 in RSL's favor. I am predicting the same. Sabo ends the funk with two goals, Espindola the other.
