well if that were true, our donut-making sponsor would have teamed up with whichever team employs Zach Thornton.
While money obviously is one of the most important factors when it comes to selecting a jersey sponsor, it's not quite as simple as the one with the biggest check gets the deal. Many teams have had discussions with companies that never ended up on the shirt, because it was a company the club just didn't wanted to associate themselves with. It is my OPINION that UHC was a poor choice for the Revolution to proudly display across their chests, as it feels like a slap in the face to healthcare providers and healthcare consumers, who year after year are being asked to accept less reimbursements and pay more out of pocket respectively.
I wonder which factors come into play when the Euro clubs choose a sponsor? Seems like at least 1/2 of them of gambling related. I'd love to be a fly on the wall in the meetings that make these sponsorships happen.
Yes it does. Everyone has their price. Would you switch allegiances for a price? What if I offered you: $100 to be a Revs fan $150 to be a DC United fan or $200 to be a Fire fan? Which would you take? It's not as simple as just accepting the highest offer and being done with it.
It gets a lot simpler when the numbers are in the millions instead of hundreds and the differences are much, much larger.
sure it does. 26 y/o male med student. No health problems, no pre-existing conditions. >$500 per month for shit coverage. Oh how wonderful it is to see them spilling money on jersey sponsorships. /Then again I blame my program's dean's office for selecting them too.
I hope New England makes a good chunk of money out of this deal. I also hope that this is purely a money situation and not one where they sat around a table and said, "yes, this is a company we want to be associated with". I would much rather accept the idea that for an equivalent amount of money the Revolution would have thrown BP or Phillip Morris on the front of their shirts with just as much beaming pride.
I dont know how i feel about a team being sponsored by an HMO, but at least it means some money in the pocket of a team that could use it.
No. The Revs are not releasing the information. I believe the league has a min of 500k per year on shirt sponsorships.
I did not realize LiveStrong was going on the shirts. I thought it was just the stadium name. Was this a recent announcement I missed?
What are you talking about? The team is owned by billionaires and they pay no rent at Gillette. We sat on Dempsey's transfer fee for years, and we took our sweet time getting a shirt sponsor. Where do you get the idea that the Revs could "use the money"? Our frustration hasn't been not having enough money.... it's been knowing they have the money but they won't spend it.
The frustration you're referring to is precisely what I meant. I was expressing the thought that maybe since the money from the sponsorship would be paid directly to the team that perhaps Kraft would be more encouraged to spend it on the team as well, rather than hoarding it or taking it and then spending it on something unrelated to the team. Sorry if my post didn't come across clearly.
Yeah, this is where I'm coming from and this is why I posted earlier in this thread about all the things I think that the Krafts will do with the money that won't benefit the Revolution in any way. (OK, the gift cards to CBS Place will, I guess.) People are foolishly believing that the money from this deal will mean more money spent on the Revolution in the form of players, marketing, or -- gasp! -- a stadium. It won't. The Krafts have had the money all along and haven't spent it on the Revs (only on the Pats), so why should anyone expect them to now?
I wonder if there is a tie-in with the Patriots as well. Will UnitedHealthcare also have product placement with the NFL team as well.
Playing Devil's Advocate for a minute... 1. Last year the Revs were something like fifth or sixth in the league in the league in payroll... they just made a series of stupid decisions. (e.g. "Gee, I'm sure Taylor will be completely recovered from his 8th concussion this year", "$240,000 for Edgaras Jankauskas? Sure, he's got a Champions League Winner's medal AND he knows Jose Mourinho." 2. Since the end of last year they've brought in Didier Domi (PSG, Newcastle, Espanyol, Olympiacos), Ousmane Dabo (Inter Milan, Lazio, Manchester City), Rajko Lekic (...who was only available due to a falling out with his club over a proposed $1,000,000+ transfer to Turkey), and now Feilhaber. Certainly seems like they're spending the money on players to me.
i'm certainly no defender of Kraft (check the Revs boards), but doesn't sponsorship money have to be spent on the team- per league rules? Am I making that up?
