The great news with that song is I can take my shirt off and it'll look like that dude is there singing with us. I like the idea (of the song, not of me shirtless) -- wonder if it is a song we can sing with the high notes and all though -- like is the key to high? Some songs you can belt out and some have notes that people struggle to hit -- hard to know without trying but well worth a shot in my book. Yeah, I dig that aspect of it as well. Along with the 'There is no place like home' stadium we have. Because there isn't.
I actually love this. This is my favorite version of OTR - well, possibly tied with the Me First and the Gimme Gimmes though everyone might pass out trying to sing it as fast as them. I still like their version of Country Road best. If you haven't heard them do either of these it's worth a search on YouTube. I posted their version of OTR a year or three ago.
I don't think it'll be a problem. It's going to be "modified" anyway by hundreds or thousands of people who couldn't carry a tune in a sack.
I really like this idea as well. That and Home on the Range. I know I can't carry a tune in a bucket, so as long as everyone else drowns me out, we'll all be ok. That said, I really, really, think we need to get some player chants/songs going this year, so that maybe we don't repeat the same 5 or 6 chants/songs 10 times a game. "We love ya" is great, but it does get a bit old after the first couple of times. I still think a Ryan Smith chant would be easy - based on the Ryan Giggs chant. After tonight's game, I'm wondering if the Beatles "Yesterday" wouldn't be somewhat appropriate.
the band has the lyrics the clearest and easiest to sing along to... the heptones cover is my personal favorite, although i think there's a different recording that i normally listen to... and had to include ms. nina on principle. written by dylan. Someone give me some basic lyrics and I'll write the music. Nothing too difficult, the lyrics or the music. But I'll take the lyrics you give me and put it to music and record it and you can see if you like it. I say this because I know how hard it is to make the lyrics you want fit to a particular song. Good thing is, you can take whatever lyrics you want, put it to a simple tune that's easy to learn, and not only do you have what you want, but it's original and NO ONE from other teams or supporters groups or anything can say you stole it. I'm not good with the writing of the lyrics, but I'm good with music. So you guys that are badass with lyrics and what not send them my way. If you think this is stupid, ignore it. I'm just trying to give another option. It can be a chant you have in mind. A poem. It can rhyme. Doesn't have to. Just whatever.
we'll have to bring cowbells. which i fully support. i don't know the words to that though. i'm okay with somewhere over the rainbow/what a wonderful world, except that it's 2 songs and gets pretty long... and again i thought we were trying to get away from the rainbow/oz thing... one thing about football chants that's always important to remember, i think, is the amount of silence between lines... we can't expect a crowd of drunk people to keep rhythm that well without musical accompaniment to have gaps of silence timed correctly. that's the exact reason we can't just sing "kansas city" and be done with it. p.s. i feel like i should expound on suggesting "i shall be released"... for one, it's been covered by so many different types of artists that it covers a lot of bases (wikipedia lists a bunch of them) as far as the way we seem to argue about taste. plus, the different versions allow for just about anybody's vocal range to work, and the lyrics are simple. i actually first thought of this song because i find it getting stuck in my head, and i always end up belting it out (horribly) when i'm driving to it. it's pretty much a prison-themed song. i think the lyrics are good for kansas city sports in particular, which tend to keep us in years upon years of "almost"... that the owners, managers, coaches are always shifting things around, but we as fans always end up with this feeling of "any day now..." and a sort of humbled optimism... which is an oddly fitting mood for a team, whether we're at the top or bottom of the table. some of the lyrics are different from version to version, but here's the one from dylan's website: http://www.bobdylan.com/songs/i-shall-be-released
I Shall Be Released is a great song, the challenge is one of editing as always. We need to adapt it so we can sing a Cliff's Notes version in less than a minute and keep the lyrics easy. Same goes for the Israel songs. I think we can do both SOTR and WAWW, sing them independently or join them as we see fit. The changeover is pretty easy. It's great for so many reasons...homage to our original logo/name, everyone knows the words or at least the tune, it's sung in Kansas in the movie, and it's just a great classic song (named Song of the Century by the RIAA). I just really really don't think there's another song with that kind of total package, maybe other than something like Home on the Range, which could be an additional song but not THE song.
A lot of people miss this song because it's a "church" song, but it could be a could 'youll never walk alone' like song. Change a few of the words up to make it specific to KC, but it could be a cool anthem. And obviously only sing parts of it. Where no one stands alone. Since you plan on standing and singing might as well remind everyone that they are not alone. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7qFMBMp5QxQ&feature=related"]YouTube - Elvis Presley - Where No One Stands Alone[/ame] Once I stood in the night with my head bowed low In the darkness, as black as could be And my heart felt alone And I cried oh Lord Don't hide your face from me Hold my hand all the way Every hour every day From here to the great unknown Take my hand Let me stand Where no one stands alone
Don't know if any one's suggested this yet. But what about "Vindaloo" with Barbeque? Bar-Be-Que, Bar-Be-Que Bar-Be-Que, Bar-Be-Que, La-La Bar-Be-Que, Bar-Be-Que Bar-Be-Que, Bar-Be-Que, La-La Bar-Be-Que, Bar-Be-Que, And we all eat Barbeque! We're gonna score one more than you! Sporting! (or KC, whichever)
fyi, the fast track to getting something played is talking the stadium into putting it on the loudspeaker. in which case, sheeeit, we could have a beginning, halftime, and end song. as long as some giant label doesn't talk them into putting on justin bieber or whatever instead. i noticed chicago was jamming miley cyrus pregame haha...
I'll add one more to the love this list. I can't think of any player chants we currently use that are not [insert player] clap, clap, clap, clap, clap. I've seen several people mention this needs changed for the sake of variety, and I'll throw out a another reason. Hearing people chant specificaly for you rather than for a team motivates you far more. Think about it if your a player you somewhat get used to hearing us sing for the Wizards, but when you have 2000 people specificaly singling you out for who they are cheering for at that moment you are going to be far more motivated. Here's one I posted a while ago for Kamara. To the tune we used for Super Bo Oshoniyi Kei, Kei, Special Kei Kei, Kei, Special Kei Kei, Kei, Special Kei Kamara (Repeat) Was originaly going to put K, K, Special K to match his nickname, but that amount of repeating k's seemed like something we may want to stay away from. I like the idea of Ryan Giggs one for Smith, are there any more ideas out there? Maybe something having to do with cats for Harrington.
