I live about 45 minutes outside of Columbus and usually end up watching away games at home or with friends. However, I will be in C-bus on Saturday and was wondering what the best place/pub/bar is to watch Crew aways games? (Sorry if there is already a thread on this, couldn't find it)
HSH has their own bar, on Summit St. Crew Union makes their home at 4th Street Bar & Grill, and I'm sure The Crew is hosting an official watch party at a bar/pub/restaurant somewhere around town.
To expand on the above... 4th Street Patio Bar & Grill - Between campus and Stadium Home bar of Crew Supporters Union, more details here. Great beer selection at affordable prices. Hudson Street Hooligans - Between campus and Stadium Club house for Hudson Street Hooligans Requires a either a $20 membership or $10 drinking only pass as it's a club, get first beer free. Can't speak as much for their selection, but also affordable. Jimmy V's - Westerville Official stop for this viewing party on Crew pub tour. Fado Irish Pub - Easton Most established soccer bar in the city. Should still be a good crowd there from the morning games in Europe. Prices higher than the above places. I'd suggest one of the first two, but probably can't go too wrong with any of the above.
Does anyone still go to Ruby's to watch away games or are most the people that went there now at HSH club?
Not an away game but I stopped by Rubys before the home game last week and it was so depressing in there. There were maybe like 7 people max. I always complained about the place a few years ago but it's such a great dive bar I feel bad not going there anymore. Hopefully they still get good crowds outside of the Crew and do not go under.
Does anyone still go to Claddagh's at all? I know all the crap that went down there, but I've still got a gift card for there. I'll probably just go over for a Champions League game or something, but I was just wondering.
I think it'd be better to start a new thread with the first post by a mod that could be updated over time and with more detail. Good idea though.
I go to the Claddagh at Polaris once in a while (I live on the north side). Last time there were about 6 Crew supporters in there. The Claddagh down town was much better in the day but I haven't been there recently. Question for you HSH goers: I've always wanted to go but kind of figured it would be too packed. I like to sit in a bar with a decent view of the telly. How packed is it? Come two hours early?
A few more bits: I know that Fado used to run something like 10% off if you wore Crew-related clothing, such as a jersey, scarf, t-shirt, hat, or something of the above. I'd imagine that a CSU or HSH t-shirt would also work. I don't know if they still do this or not. You may have to ask about the discount. I had to ask last year, and they gave it to me. I'm guessing the waitress didn't know. As for Ruby's, I asked that same question a while ago, and it appears that most people go to HSH, but you still may occasionally run into a Crew fan at Ruby's. Claddagh - An interesting situation. I know some people vowed to never set foot in any Claddagh location again. It seems as if what people are doing are their individual decisions, and certainly not that of any group. I have heard that you may have to fight for TV space with non-soccer games. ETA -- I was typing the original reply as Punch posted.
1) What was the Claddagh incident? I saw a game there once, and it was so mobbed, I couldn't enjoy the game at all. 2) Where does Turbina watch games? Erich
I went back to try to find the thread, but couldn't find it. Basically, their corporate management took issue with how the store management handled the USA/England game (One of the most awesome events that I've ever been to) very publicly and very poorly. It didn't got over well, as almost every person working there walked out and most of the fans haven't been back since. EDIT: Found it! Thread Link.
It's generally not too bad, and even better now that the second half is open with the projection screen. If you want to sit I'd recommend getting there early, but overall it isn't as packed for away games as it is on home days.
