    Crew fan, right?

I think you have plenty to worry about in your own house if you want to pursue this subject.

The Crew is owned by the Hunt family, which made it's money in BIG OIL.
Oil is the single biggest contributor to global warming. The Oregon lumber industry, while it is by no means perfect, is carbon neutral or carbon negative, uses recyclable products, and cuts renewable second growth trees. I'm pretty sure a first growth tree hasn't been cut for lumber in this state in 20 years.( does Ohio have any first growth?)

Columbus was built in part on the steel industry, never much known to friendly to the environment, and now is heavily into electronics, which contribute to heavy metals and carcinogens.

And, while we have Our problems with salmon conservation and such, we have never had our rivers catch fire like the state of Ohio. I love the Cuyahoga river anthem ("burn on, big river, burn on")

So, check your own underwear, or go pick on the Steelers, or the folks at Rio Tinto or something. But you have plenty to worry about at home.

Nah, just the ones that don't know the difference between a rivalry and blind hatred.

I don't want the Timbers to win ever, but I'm not gonna pretend they've got bad support.

There are two responses that Seattle fans can do.

1: Up their game (the one I prefer)

2: belittle something that is obviously impressive (the pansy way)

Apparently SteamPunkr thinks that a person wearing a green jersey is an empty seat. That will happen when a team doesn't have the most putrid looking uniforms in sports history that clash with every color seat ever made.

Just out of curiosity, are the sideline sections required sitting? It was odd to see everyone standing on both goal lines and one section from the corners, but then everyone on the sidelines sitting. The only reason for the sudden break I could think of while watching the game was that they were being told to sit by someone.

The seats closer to the midfield are reserved seats- older More affluent people or families. It would be rude to stand the whole game in front of an old person or child, wouldn't it?;)

If you are going to make up your own answer, why ask the question?

It's not required sitting (i.e. nobody's walking the aisles demanding that you stay seated), but I think that's where the people who aren't into standing end up. People who want to stand all game end up in the north end, it's spread a bit to other parts of the stadium, but I suspect that people in the expensive seats will always remain sitting.

    Portland avg attendance 2007: 6828
    Portland avg attendance 2008: 8567

Can we please not turn this into a rivalry thread? Most adults understand that both teams have fantastic support. That's a good thing, right?

SteamPunkr, if maturity is an issue with you, there are some fine folks over in Rivalries that understand your predicament and would love to talk with you.
Is it really that hard to understand that this is not the place for juvenile banter?

Anyone remember all those 30,000+ crowds in Seattle back in 2007? Yeah, me neither.

This is so hilarious to me. Guys like SteamPunkr and RaveGreen think that "ancient history" means 2009. They're in their third -- THIRD season of MLS play, and these guys think they're entitled to play the "where was your fan support when" card, but if you point out that Seattle's attendance wasn't anywhere even approaching the level it is now before they joined MLS, they have coronaries.

Guess what, SteamPunk -- you might be the 8th grader picking on the 6th grader, and you might think that makes you bad-ass, but us high-school seniors are still laughing at you.

Portland: Good start. Keep up the good work.

I just finished watching the Timbers home opener on my DVR. What an amazing crowd! I can't wait to experience it when the Quakes travel up there.

What section is Timber Joey? (I assume I should avoid it)

Wow, so if you own a chainsaw they force you to do all sorts of crazy stuff like that, I guess it makes sense to have a license. *cough*give your hard earned money away to a insatiable government bureaucracy*cough*

They were averaging more but anyway I was talking about supporters not attendance (which doesn't have much to do with atmosphere).

    true story.

Him and bright get rolled the hellz up, AD.

Just in closing, I feel bad for the Sounders fans on here that are class, they have to deal with those two moronic knuckleheads. It's one thing to have civil banter (yes there is such a thing), but when you're just stupid, and not making sense...there is just no point.

    Anyways.

We finally had a sunny day in Portland, the crowd was great. So glad we can contribute to the league profile, and really help make soccer in America more, and more legit.

You're better off with going with 15 years. I can remember having the old growth debate in college in the Northwest in the mid-90's.

(And while cutting only second growth is good, second growth forests aren't a sufficient replacement for old-growth, especially when they're a tree farm.)

Pay no attention to SteamPunkr....he doesn't even know jack shit about Settle pre 2009, let alone Portland.

Sounders Average Attendance approx 35k. Qwest field seats 67-72,000.

Sounds like a half empty stadium to me. I guess you're a self hater referring to your club as a team that nobody gives a shit about?

This really isn't even fun anymore. That's how easy you make it for everyone else.

Forestry smack talk > attendance smack talk.

Anyway, great display from the TA, but it shouldn't have been a surprise. It's really wonderful that we get to argue about in which city soccer is more relevant.

The only downsides are that 500 away fan limit and that Vancouvers FO kneecapped the Southsiders.
