    Define "looks better."

Anytime someone hits a 60-plus yard FG in American football, that's pretty amazing.

The soccer goal was just a long, accurate free kick by a keeper that the opposing keeper mishandled. Good, but more lucky than amazing.

For those who may not be aware... everything else being the same, the pointy ball will travel significantly farther than the round ball. There's more air drag on the round ball.

But the "pointy ball" is much harder to kick, much less kick and keep a straight flight.

    Actually it's the opposite.
In my playing days I used to kick both, and the "pointy ball" always ended up farther and was easier to direct (probably due to less air drag).

Put a football on the ground and try it, though. I can buy the less drag angle, but it takes more skill to kick a football than it does a soccer ball; nobody has to hold a soccer ball for you while you kick it.

Plus, the GK is able to take his time and doesn't have a bunch of huge guys trying to block the kick.

The placekicker has to get his kick off faster and under pressure from the opposing D. Plus, for it to be a make, it has to be higher and go further than the soccer kick.

Uhm, no one kicks a football that is lying flat on the ground, anyway. Have you seen it done in a football game?
Usually it is placed on an angled upright holder or it's held by a person.

And that's besides the point. And point being, a football will travel about 10-15 yards(depending on how it is spinning) farther than a soccerball when kicked similarly.

The headlines on the publication for the A.F. started with "Amazing" and some people where kind of congratulating themselves that it happened in their life times, when some other took it cautiously and were just saying, it happened in a practice, "not a big deal, do it in a real game"... then I found the one on Soccer, I thought, well, this is amazing too and it happened in a real game... What I would really like to see is if the goalkeeper can kick a pointy ball and make a goal field in that distance.

yes, but when someone kicks a 63-yard Field goal, the football has to travel a lot further than 63 yards.

This is not helping this forum's reputation as the final resting place of inanities.

Huh, that doesn't mak... oh wait.... ...yes, of course, you are correct, because I just remembered; this is the land where our domestic champions are called world champions.

You do realize that the crossbar is 10 feet above the ground, right?

The "pointy" ball all goes a lot further when thrown in a spiral by a quarterback - a very aerodynamic posture. It takes an entirely different and far less aerodynamic posture when it is kicked.

That said, the original proposition is correct. It implies that both the 67 yard field goal and the 83 meter goal are pretty amazing accomplishments. Both are.

Or a javelin throw of of 98.48 meters?
