Re: Cheers to the Timbers Army - ESPN GOTW, 11.10pm edt, 4/14/11

That was the coolest doggone thing I've seen since last Saturday night when our D-3 club played our first ever home game (Orlando City SC, btw). You people just sang the national anthem, and it sounded like the ESPN dude was going to cry.

Good on every last one of you. Just brilliant, and all the best in MLS. I hope we follow your lead one day soon.

    Cheers and forza Timbers.

dude.....incredible atmosphere, best in the league. Easily. You guys just took a dump on the chests of Seattle and TFC supporters. It is going to be intimidating to play there as hell.

I'll give Seattle some credit as they still create a killer atmosphere, but TFC ain't got shit on this. Hell from what I've seen VWFC has eclipsed Toronto already for neutral supporter tv entertainment value

God damn -- your fans were beautiful tonight. :D Props to everybody. The atmosphere leaked over from TV and just made me grin. Keep it going. And for heavens sake finish above Seattle!

    Brilliant! Epic! Awesome!

It might be too early to anoint you guys the #1 crowd and best atmosphere in MLS, but if you can keep this up, I guarantee you've got my vote!

You were an example to aspire to, and I hope more MLS home supporters take notice.

I am away on a job so had to watch the home opener on TV. What a fantastic game! Sorry I missed it, but last month I sat through the San Jose home opener in the same kind of weather. At least if I was in my season ticket seat at Jeld-Wen, I would have been under a roof! The Timbers Army singing the National Anthem warmed my heart and brought tears to my eyes. Way to go Army and team!

The bar has been raised. As a quasi-Oregonian, I was extremely proud watching the Timbers Army on my TV. Great job.

Well done PTFC! Much deserved 3 points! I'd say 2nd half goes to the Fire overall on possession and energy, before you found your 2nd wind from ~75 mins on; but that's because you guys ran yourselves silly converting your plays into goals in the 1st. Definitely the stronger side in the 1st half.

I'm on the fence for what I suspect will be two nominations for GOTW: Wallace vs Pappa. Atmosphere looked and sounded incredible. I think there's no doubt that it infiltrated the Fires' heads.

    Cheers!

I was up watching the entire Fire-Timbers game here on the East Coast. I do not use this word often, but you guys were awesome. You sung the national anthem like it was a Number 1 hit, you were really loud and you had a lot of interesting chants/songs which came clearly through the broadcast. What made your chants/songs interesting was that very few (if any) MLS supporters group does them. I loved "You Are My Sunshine" (which I understand is in tribute to Timber Jim's daughter) and "Falling in Love with You", which to me is easily the best soccer anthem in N. America, if you decide to adopt it as your anthem. I also loved the fact that you were all generally singing in unison, instead of having different groups sing different stuff at the same time. That is something a lot of MLS Supporters Groups can learn from you.

You're every bit as good as Seattle, if you can keep up this level of support...

Speaking of this, I've been going to MLS (and the occasional Nats) game since 1997 and this is the first time I've seen the anthem officially sung by the supporters. Usually there's some lame singer or a military band or something but not tonight. Tonight it was the Timbers Army. I don't know whose idea that was but it was just brilliant.
