I'm making my first trip to HDC Sunday (courtesy VERY nice anniversary gift tickets from my wife), and the forecast calls for rain. Any tips for HDC in the rain? I notice that umbrellas are on the prohibited items list. We're in seats with backs, not on a bench, and I suppose I'll bring a towel for drying those. I will probably wear a wool jacket (although it will make me cry not to show off the new jersey I got for Christmas). Best headgear I have are cloth/canvas baseball caps, unless anyone knows of anything better at the Galaxy store (if there is such a thing). Any other advice would be appreciated! I'm super excited to be attending my first game! Go Galaxy!
Welcome Wathombe, I just usually make sure I have some sort of raincoat and hat... hopefully the match will keep us warm... you could always sing loud & proud! Enjoy the match and the forums mate... jack
You sir, have a cool wife. I would bring a change of clothes (from experience) in the car. It's easy enough to brave the weather if you know you don't have a long drive home in wet clothes. Enjoy the match. Here's hoping we emerge 2-0. Cheers, and happy anniversary.
If you tell us what section you're in, we could tell you if you'll be under the roof. Most seats actually are, especially the ones with the backs. So, unless it's slantways rain you might be ok. Even 138 in the corner is pretty much covered by the roof. Angel City Brigade, on the other hand, will be "singing in the rain"...
So Cal... are we made of sugar? millions of fans world wide watch in the rain and colder temps too still, if it helps keep the temporary "teen girl & cougar mum" who scream at DB's every touch away from HDC then bribe the groundhog so we get more rain....
I prefer the rain poncho over the rain jacket and hat personally. First, it folds up real small and is easy to carry around if you don't need it, and secondly, when sitting in the stands while it's raining, the poncho covers your legs and keeps them from getting soaked. Will be there with ponchos at the ready tomorrow!!!!
NO PONCHOS. We're not freakin' Sounders fans. If the 40 or so of us Galaxy fans that made it through the game in Seattle could do it without ponchos so can everyone at HDC. We're better than wearing trash bags! I got a lot of heckling from a creeper at the game who swore Galaxy fans don't show up in the rain and can't handle it, let's prove that guy wrong.
i was hoping that the rain last night would mean that the storms would pass and sunday would be nice....forecast is indicating otherwise. gonna be a soggy afternoon.
http://www.weather.com/weather/hourbyhour/90745?begHour=11&begDay=79 4pm - 7pm, temp 58-55, feels like 54-50 heavy rain and wind wind 23mph sse we're all going to get wet
Sounds just like the game at Qwest a few days ago, only much warmer. Trust me with those winds we're all getting wet. I better find a way to keep my hand dry (stitches).
Thx for the roof info, mbar, tho it sounds like I'd be wise to bring weather gear anyway. I suppose there's the walk from the parking lot regardless. Anyone see any of the SJE-RSL game last night? It looked even nastier than the game at Qwest, although the effect may have been enhanced by that high school stadium in which they play.

It was nasty outside at the HDC tonight. Fortunately, our seats were perfect--low enough to be out of the wind, but high enough to be under the roof. They were dry all night. The same could not be said for trips to the snackbar or to and from the car. Thoroughly enjoyed my first live Galaxy game. Too bad the refs couldn't see through the rain. I'll check the postgame thread, but were all three of those offsides calls good?
Good for you to brave the elements. Two of the calls were offside, the other was a foul, and they all looked good to me, but opinions differ.
LD's post-game interview indicated that they called the Reis dropped ball a foul. that was easily a goal, and we were robbed of a penalty too, but i digress. i was thoroughly impressed with LAG fans sticking it out in the rain. i was soaked when i got home but i had blast.
3 of us brought a change of clothes, which required a clever use of the mini van to dress to drive back to San Diego Even my underwear was rain damp. Shame the field drainage let us down it killed any run on the ball
I take back anything I said about the rainy game in Seattle. Last night was way worse. Kudos on the FO for the free ticket deal, although it's rather useless if you're an STH it is a nice gesture. I had a coworker who went last night for the first time so she appreciates being able to go back on a hopefully drier evening.
Yeah, that was a recording breaking day, rain-wise, in Los Angeles. So I'm really impressed that many fans showed up. I thought I heard that STHs will also get some sort of deal in appreciation for showing up in the rain, but I'm not 100% certain on that. But on another note - what the hell is wrong with people? When I left, I saw 100s of blue rain ponchos littered all over the parking lot. It's really sad that personal responsibility and lack of respect has dropped that low. Really, really disappointed in the Galaxy fans about that....
I haven't had a chance to attend a game in at least three years, but wouldn't have missed this for anything. Sat goal side, below the grass (behind the Galaxian drums), and hadn't been so wet since I was a kid riding my bike in the rain for hours (without a jacket).....actually forgot how heavy jeans get when soaked. Considering the game, I was impressed there wasn't more slipping/sliding, at least not until later in the game. Perhaps a few tips for the next rain game (sometime in 2012), depending on how 'cool' you want to look. A proper rain jacked, not the 'green/gold' Galaxy one I thought would work. I also used the free poncho as a 'skirt', punched a hole and wore it around my legs which worked well to keep feet and legs dry. Still wondering how many ruined their phones, saw lots of people using them in the rain.
I can't tell if my slightly sick feeling this morning is from standing in the rain for 2 hours, yelling at the referees or running the half mile or so back to the car. As I said in the match thread I was so impressed to see so many people there tonight. Seriously I've seen less people on Saturday night home openers and Sunday noon games so 3/4 full on a rainy, cold Sunday night is such a great site to see. Between the last 3-4 matches last season and last nights turn out I think our fanbase is maturing and getting more passionate. Still a long way to go from Seattle and Toronto, but we're getting there.
I think the FO should award us pins that say "I was there - Opening Night 3-20-11" Not only was I impressed with the number of people who came, I was impressed with the number that stayed the full 90. VERY un-Los Angeles.
