How did the game against Rollins go tonight? Man I love Rollins stadium/field/bleachers. I know its small, but being there watching the Kraze and the Rollins teams play in the past, in spring in Winter Park, oh thats heaven. Hope you guys had fun!
It was a great atmosphere for a game. The team could have played a lot better. They clearly underestimated Rollins. Adrian was...less than pleased. Still, a win is a win.
Sorry, I just noticed this post. I was just given access to our page on the USL site last week, hence the old info and photos.
For those that don't know a sell-out at Rollins College is 500 spectators. The stadium has 500 chair back seats, team rooms for both men's and women's soccer, rest rooms, a concession stand and a ticket booth.
[brief threadjack] If you go to the OC website, and notice news item #2 on the homepage under the title, "Red Carpet Monday event on 3/28"... who is the striking young lady in the OC-red dress? Just wondering... [threadjack complete]
Whoa, you're right. Geez, I need to get my radar tuned up, it never even occurred to me that she belongs to someone. My apologies to Phil, Brendan, Steve, Adrian, or any other muckety-muck whose spouse I was mistakenly noticing. A thousand pardons.
I just saw the mobile billboard - which is awesome. I've never seen one of those before, at least that I remember, which made me take notice of it to begin with - then I saw it was advertising for the team.
That's Michelle, one of our Corporate Sales executives. She and Phil attended the first Red Carpet Monday event we were involved with. Yes, she is taken.
I've noticed the team putting some deals up on different sites (living social today - http://livingsocial.com/deals/34364-two-tickets-to-soccer-game?msdc_id=75) recently to sell tickets, good strategy. So far today they've sold 77 pairs of tickets for the game on the 22nd. Good way to get people top try the team out and hopefully return for more matches in the future.
Re: Orlando SC News thread 2011: new "Soccer" page at orlandosentinel.com I never really thought I'd see the day this would happen. But our daily paper now includes a separate webpage under the heading "Soccer," and which contains local soccer news (which we now have!!!) along with general soccer headlines from around the world. Thus, I found myself yesterday afternoon glancing through some soccer news on a website while eating my lunch at my desk at work, specifically some Champions League news and early results from both Tuesday's and Wednesday's matches---on the Orlando Sentinel website. I for one found that a fairly amazing bit of progress, and it's the tiniest bit more fun to realize in the context of our new team's first ever home match having been played only four nights earlier. Hallelujah! Come on you Lions!!!
The April 10th Orlando Sentinel article (front page of the sports section, above the fold!) is, IMO, the big news here. It starts off quoting The Ruckus president, goes on with comments from other supporters and fans. It mentions a group of young people from Polk County (dangerously close to Tampa) who started their own group to support Orlando City. If this sport is about "the fans", than Orlando City is right where it needs to be.
That 4/10 article following last week's first home match had a very interesting tone to it. Most of the people it quoted were saying things like, "It's been a long time coming," and that they had been waiting a long time for pro soccer in Orlando, that pro soccer is overdue and that it's so great it's finally here. I was thrilled by that, and also pleasantly surprised, too. It says to me that maybe there really is a deep well of support for the game here, and maybe there really is something substantive and solid to build from, hopefully toward something like we saw with the Timbers amazing home opener Thursday night. That's years down the road, but to me it seems like it's actually possible. PS - where have you been?
Drilling holes in PVC pipe and trying to figure out how to get around the "No Flares, No Smoke Bombs" at the Citrus Bowl rule. Solution: One 1,800 Watt Fog Machine from hell.
Great start to the season for OC. Would like to see more out of towners get to the C-Bowl. C'mon North Florida - you got no other team - GO LIONS !
Orlando City has signed Trinidad-American midfielder Justin Fojo. He was one of our training camp invitees, and saw time in the game against Toronto FC. His time at City this spring was limited because he was finishing his senior year at the College of Charleston. He will join the team next week. He is a dual-citizen, having been raised in Lake Mary and graduating from Lake Mary High, but is in FIFA's database as representing Trinidad & Tobago. He was called up once during his college career, but did not play. City has also upped Dennis Chin to a full pro contract.
