A well-defined Egyptian eye, complete with disturbing blood-tears for added dramatic effect, reflecting the state the injury's owner so prominently (proudly?) displayed to all the world upon it's inception. His leg is looking back at him! Keep it! To shut that provocative eye is to surely invite karmic trouble. Silly whining bitch-child. Nobody cries in football.
Beautiful result. Suarez really ignited the team today and everybody, especially Kuyt followed suit. Would Torres have done the same? The first goal was one of the best of the season. Crafty touches by Suarez drawing the Scum defense around him to lay it off to Kuyt. Kuyt had perhaps his finest match in a LFC kit, played like he was 5 years younger. Let's hope he doesn't vanish for the next 5 matches. Defense was solid, Carra and co proved adept at shutting Berbatov & Rooneh down. Did Rooneh even play today? Sure, Carra was reckless on the Nani tackle but Nani's play acting was comical. Mereiles showed class to his fellow countryman with some words I thought the ref did a great job unlike Howard "Manchester" Webb. Midfield was bossed by Stevie & Lucas with Maxi showing some clever runs. Mereiles wasn't much threat offensively, but he made two goal-line saves. Carroll looked good but never really got into the match. Can't wait to see him up top with Suarez in the starting 11. Like I've said, Suarez could be even better than Torres ever was. This lad has talent in spades. Getting the 3pts and keeping our spot in the table was badly needed. Yep, beat the best team in the Epl one week and lose to the worst last week. Somewhere, Rafa is smiling to himself. ynwa
Based upon the two pictures I have seen of his shin - Nani wouldn't have a scratch on him if he wore proper shinguards. Some of these guys are running around w/ shinguards that look as if they are made for my six-year-old. His display after the fact was one of the most ridiculous things I have seen while watching a game in some time. I wonder how many Suarez jerseys were sold today?
It seems in vogue to post pics of Nani's leg in this thread. So here is Mr Fair Play himself giving Glen a close look at his shin...
If you missed the goals or just want to watch them again, got video of all of them: http://www.zygosoccerreport.com/2011/03/birthday-gift-fit-for-king-liverpool-3.html Also on there is the video of the Liverpool fans singing Happy Birthday to King Kenny.
did anyone notice on the Nani play - that Dirk was over him berating him for a good 15 seconds or so before Scholes came over and starting pushing? Surprised by that from Dirk.
I think all of our players were on edge over the physical confrontations. They were probably all anticipating us getting screwed again and someone being sent off. You could tell that they were _REALLY_ up for it. I can't remember us being that motivated to get stuck-in and stick up for each other in a looong time. The circumstances and adversity that this year have brought may have just galvanized this team a bit and made them a little bit tougher and a little more together.
Excellent performance overall, our midfield completely dominated them, which is what I like to see. We pressed very well and attacked so cohesively and got midfield runners everytime. Lucas was immense, and Kyri did very well as a sub and had several towering headers away. Kuyt was excellent up top and I think us reds forgot how well he can do at CF with a good partner who also works hard. Suarez is a sick talent and next season will be very interesting. If we achieve some consistency, a title challenge could be very realistic with Kenny in charge and a few key signings and getting rid of some dead wood. Carra's tackle, Its a maybe red, it was a tough tackle but mostly 50/50, slightly misstimed but he was actually going for the ball. One-footed and not showing studs, therefore not a red 1/2 the time and not too reckless. On the other hand, the Rafael tackle should have been straight red. It was two-footed, studs up and a reckless kungfu attack.
A nick like this should be of little surprise to anyone who has actually played competitive matches. Especially given today's football/soccer culture of wearing the smallest shin guards you can find. There is not much meat on your shin, you take a cleat on it, it will bruise and open up. It will hurt. But I can't imagine going off on a god damn stretcher, nor tearing up about it. "Stevie told me I'd never be as good as Cristiano"
both shoddy tackles are probably reds. Seen them go either way on more than one occasion. Consistency is hard in the heat of the moment especially when you consider it's one guy getting a poor view in most cases with no replay. As for the side, it's great, but they need to be consistent. Still need a ton of work in the offseason, but the additions they've made (Suarez, Clarke, Kenny, and others) are paying off.
I've not read hardly any of this thread, so, APOLOGIES IN ADVANCE, but my take was: Carra should have been sent off. That was bionic stupidity. Those challenges need erasing from the game. Rafael should have been sent off. But Dowd knew better after only showing Carra yellow. Pepe was the only one pulling our guys away from the fracas. Up 2-0, last thing we need is a hand-to-face sending off. Captain material. Lucas was outstanding. Liverpool quality. Did Rooney feature? I don't recall him on the pitch. We need to outfit the Wigans and Hammers of the world in ManU kits.
Apropos of nothing, was Evra always the captain for ManU? I thought Giggs was their second choice whenever Neville wasn't available (which was, like, every match)?
"Just because Fergie doesn't speak after games, I'm not going to spend twice as long talking to you." Kenny Dalglish - smiling at his press conference yesterday
Evra - the man who will go down as the worst Captain of France in history! LOL. Let's all sit on the bus and refuse to train -f@ck all our fans, we are throwing a hissy fit and embarrassing our entire country in the eyes of the entire world! Evra is more likely to stage a sit in protest or fight the stewards after the match than actually impose himself and stand up for his team-mates during a match. If Rio and Vidic are out through injury and VDS is gone this summer, then Rooney or Fletcher should be their Captain imo. Scholes, Brown and Carrick are not Captain material, Berbatov is too much of a skiver, Giggs maybe could do it. Evans too but he is not really in confident form recently.
You know, the more I think about the whole France meltdown (which I try not to), the less fault I find with the players and more with the F.F.F. I think the image of Anelka as a malcontent is one that's been encouraged by the federation and the French press, and Domenech should've been let go after the disastrous Euro '08. Not to say that the boycott was a particularly smart or classy move, but I'm finding more sympathy with the players. Also, it makes sense for Rooney as the captain - I can see the armband giving him a heightened sense of responsibility and might keep him from disappearing the way he did yesterday.
