The really cool thing is-- I was at the academy match at starfire a month or so ago (?), and we had a free kick from the same spot on the field, except from the right side of the circle instead of left. And, instead of hitting it instep to curl it outside in like today, that time he hit it laces to curl it Brazilian-style inside-out around the wall, for a goal. If the are highlights anywhere, it'd be cool to compare the two. They are like mirror-image goals. And neither time did the keeper even flinch even though both shots went around "his" side of the wall. It takes a high level of technique to hit it powerfully and accurately both styles.
I think so, but I'm not positive. Will have to wait for the match report. The one a month or so ago was definitely Darwin Jones. This one I'm not entirely sure since it was a kind blurry stream.
As usual Bright, you're an idiot or at this point you're just too stubborn to admit you're wrong. I love the rivalry between myself and my friends that are Sounders fans, as do they. They care passionately about the Cascadia Cup, as did every Sounders fan I had the opportunity to meet this weekend in Seattle. I was heckled constantly for wearing my Timbers jacket in bars and restaurants and it was fantastic to experience. There is a huge rivalry between the cities, nevermind the soccer teams. So to then assert that there is no rivalry between those soccer teams is such fantastical fiction that you can't possibly, truly believe your own bullshit. And by the way, apparently you don't read the ECS boards if you think we are the only ones making this rivalry too "personal" for your enjoyment. In my experience, both sets of fans are much less antagonistic in person than they are on their respective online forums, Twitter, etc.
I saw on the webstream that Seattle fans were throwing cups and other things at Portland's keeper around the 85th minute. Finally the league will see how disrespectful (some) Sounders fans are.
Pfft, this isn't new. There were several instances last year where jokers decided throwing water bottles at the keeper was a good idea. I'm not gonna go on the bright level and say there is no rivalry, but Portland isn't a special snowflake when it comes to rude Sounders fans throwing stuff at players.
No, that was the Vancouver game. #3 on vancouver faked an injury in stoppage time. And as he was walked to the sideline, someone threw a bag of popcorn at him... Security came over and.... no idea what happened next. Btw, RCTID, Bright's post was probably the most succinct backstory to the recent events of the Seattle-Portland rivalry I have seen. We chant "36 years... F*** all!" because you haven't won a league championship in your entire history, which is 36 years. Regular season, sure, twice I think, ask LA or Columbus what that's worth. (Hint: refer back to the chant). As for winning it in the stands... Both Portland and Vancouver were winning on the field in the 2nd half and didn't make any noise at all, except the 60 seconds after a goal. It was really pathetic. I know it's preseason, so it's not worth berating you guys as plastic since some of you at least traveled... but Portcouver's support groups have to look in the mirror and say "We really sucked." Honestly. You'll never improve as a group if you don't confront your flaws.
The Cascadia Cup used to be something special. It was about the three groups of fans coming together, donating their own money, to celebrate SHARED FAN CULTURE! What happened in 2009 was a travesty. You guys locked us out of the Cup competition ... and don't give me any excuses about not being in the same league; all three groups could have sat down and talked about it. Instead you decided THE DAY OF YOUR FIRST GAME AGAINST THE WHITECAPS, FIVE MINUTES BEFORE KICKOFF, WITHOUT TALKING TO ANY SOUNDERS FAN REPS to spitefully continue the Cup without us. After hearing our protests, you mocked us and waved the Cup in our faces. In essence, your message was that you would prefer to throw your monkey feces rather than be grownups and work together to share the fun of being a fan of this great sport. You took something truly beautiful and special and turned it into a piece of shit that represents everything that is wrong with your supporters culture. The Cascadia Cup was about COOPERATION. You poseurs have tried your damnest to turn it into something else, and you did.
Oh Paul Davis will you stop it. It's called Democracy. 2 supporters groups voted to continue. One did not. It continued. Now that we are all back in the same league it's back to all three clubs. Spare me the false moral outrage Paul.
The problem with this entire feigned moral outrage Paul is your personal paranoia and narrative does not fit with what happened this weekend. The Timbers Army sold out their entire allocation of 500 tickets (14 sounders fans, including yourself, tried to buy through us but we found them out and refunded their money in order to avoid any problems) and brought up every possible type of fan you can imagine. We worked with security, they worked with us. Everyone had a great time. Your'e own FO and Starfire security ops were complementing us on how well things went and how smooth the interactions with the TA were. That evening, hundreds of Timbers fans went out to local pubs in Seattle and not a single problem occurred. Then we all got together on Saturday did our little dog and pony show with the FO and had a great time with the White Caps supporters. We even shared the same beer garden. Your feigned moral outrage and attempt to defame the TA is both pathetic as it is delusional and it's really time to move on to a new schtick.
Special Treatment! Rick's Portland Photos... http://www.examiner.com/soccer-in-seattle/rick-morrison-sounders-timbers-cascadia-summit-photos
Who is Paul Davis? That is spite, not democracy. Sounders fans did not get a chance to "vote" on it until you had already decided, and you didn't even notify anyone after your decision. We found out because media from Portland was picking up your story about the Cascadia Cup (without the Sounders). And there was no discussion among the three groups prior to your decision, hence no COOPERATION between the three groups. How can you have a "vote" without the three groups first deliberating over various ways forward? Cooperation was the purpose of the Cascadia Cup. Not spite. The Cascadia Cup is not about being in the same league. It is about the three groups of fans working together. You keep glossing over that as if it isn't important, but that is what the Cascadia Cup was founded on and what it should still be about. Here is what the Timbers Army did to the Cascadia Cup, a fitting visual metaphor for their absolute disrespect for what it stands for: (they busted off one of the handles) What the hell are you talking about? It's hilarious that you paint me as "paranoid", but then you claim I tried to buy tickets through you. Hilarious. You are pretty much the epitome of everything that is wrong with the Timbers Army. You claim to be "progressive" (rational thinking, education, opportunity for all, etc.), but in truth you are a political hack who spreads lies and takes advantage of people with low self-esteem, with no regard to how your behavior affects the greater society. You claim to be "anti-corporate", but you are arm-in-arm with one of the most criminal families in the country who epitomize the evil side of corporatism, and you brag about how close you are. You claim to support the growth of the sport, yet you belittle anyone who is new to the sport, or even those who aren't new to the sport but don't adhere to your vague always-moving benchmark of what is "proper". In other words, most everything you say is an easy-to-see-through veneer.
