That is absolutely true. But then everybody in Serie A knows Chivu is a weak link, every team goes at him when he's on. It's not out of respect for Nagatomo, I'm sure.

For me the best thing he did was save a sure goal with a marvelous sliding block. Samp had Inter on the ropes at that stretch, still 0-0, and giving up a goal would have been huge. It was one of the most important plays of the entire match.

    Hi.
I'm a reader of this forum, and i subscribed just to say something about last posts.

    First of all.
I'm Italian, i live in Milan, i'm not a fan of FC Inter but i am a J-League fan so i obviously look with a particular eye to Nagatomo this year.

In previous pages, Saku wrote "he's not respected by his teammates nor the fans".
I just wanna say one thing about this: that's not true :)

Nagatomo is FC Inter mascotte into locker room, players like Materazzi Zanetti and Cambiasso (pillars of FC inter recent history) "adopted" him, and like they also the FC Inter fans did it.
I obvioulsy know many of them and they all are happy about Nagatomo, and want him part of the starting 11, replacing Chivu, in matches where Inter needs to "push".
Also Leonardo, Fc Inter coach, see Yuto like an important player: also due to Chivu stop, Yuto played 4 on 6 matches till he plays for Inter, 3 as left-wingback, 1 as right-wingback, and 3 of this matches for 90 minutes.
Obviously, with Maicon and Chivu he just can't play every game. But he's gonna play a lot.

In other words, all Italians soccer fans are, little by little, respecting Nagatomo, after the great Cesena months and the first Inter matches.
For example, i have a lot of friends, fans of FC Juventus, angry cause they want Yuto as their wingback.

    Good day to all :)

Just to confirm what i said, an article from this morning "Gazzetta dello Sport", n.1 italian sport newspaper:

    Uploaded with ImageShack.us

    I translate a little part:
"The first to hug Wes after the 1-0 to Sampdoria was Yuto Nagatomo. "Ah, Yuto Yuto -laugh Sneijder- Yuto is a phenomenon, is very good and can be a lot better".

    :)

Very nice to have some info straight out of Italy, thanks for that.
Our resident Italian Goru has been a real slacker about providing that recently.

    Hi Naga55 :) .
I'm completely aware his teammates like him a lot. But I also know that even though you can appreciate someone, you're not really forced to trust his ability. When I see Stankovic staring at him, completely free, at least ten times, to finally never give him the ball, I think there's a problem. He'll end up being trusted by his teammates because he's a strong character. But it's not the case yet.

    Hi Saku.
Now i clearly understand your point.

Well, i think that's just a normal evolution of trust.
Nagatomo is now the last arrived, it's not strange to see Stankovic ignoring him to pass the ball to a less free Sneijder.. that's just need time.
But i don't think this means a lack of respect, trust must be earned :)

Its true the Inter players are reluctant to pass Nagatomo the ball, they dont completely trust him as someone aluded to. But at the same time Nagatomo hasnt been playing his best football. Anyone who watched the Asian Cup knows that hes capable of much more than what hes been doing for Inter.

Yuto to me looks a bit timid at times, not surprising because he doesnt want to make mistakes, and hes done a great job in not making many errors. But one day hes going to have to be the Nagatomo that got him noticed that was flying down the flanks, sending in crosses with eyes, and running like a machine. This will come with time, opportunities, comfortability, and confidence.

Peoople are going to be in for a big disappointment if people are expecting Nagatomo to eventually play consistantly at the level he was playing at in the Asian Cup! What he did in Qatar was an exception. I understand there are better competiton than Asia but he was better than Cole in that Cup.

Since Eto is too often out of the penalty spot, Nagatomo sometimes being there isn't so wrong.

A sideback player in the middle of the penalty area and scores a goal. Loved that

    Yuto scored a goal!?!??! HAHAHAHA!!!NICE!

Whos to say whether he can or cant duplicate his play during the Asian Cup. Obviously if hes played at that level it means he can do it again and probably improve upon his play. Of course it will be tougher against stronger competition but in the world of soccer, FAST DONT LIE! And Yuto is second to none in the pace category. Sure hes legally a midget in the country of Italy, but he never gets out-paced and as he gains more comfortability his crosses and runs are getting sharper and better timed.

His play in the Asian Cup wasnt just against bad team, he dominated the Korean back line and Australias plus the rest of the pack. He was a man among boys, it was clear to see. And his World Cup play really put him on the map, nobody knew his name, but his play against Sneider and Eto`o his new teammates shutting both of them down that is not a fluke. Hes a great defender with unparalleled speed, everything else will come. One thing for sure is he CAN play at the highest level needed, against the best players, its not as if hes neew to Seria A. His teammates will come to trust him I believe, and if his stint with Inter doesnt workout, there should be another big club interested because hes surely impressed thus far.

(I'm gonna split the post cause it stops me for too many images!)

Hi to all, good morning from Italy!
From yesterday scoring, everyone is talking about our favourite wingback, sport newspaper and sport shows on television. The actual meme is "Nagatomic" :D

I let you see some extract of the italian n.1 soccer newspaper, "Gazzetta dello Sport", today talking a lot about Nagatomo
First of all, a big photo of Nagatomo and Zanetti celebrating the goal.

(Second and last part. Sorry for the mess)

Now a little extract of Nagatomo interview
    [IMG]

    I translate (shortly):
Title : Celebration for Nagatomo "God's Gift"; "After i scored, i saw all white..". (LOL)
Some extract of the article "There were some prejudice around Yuto, cause he's japanese -Leonardo says- but i know him well and i know he can be absolutely useful. He touch me." ; "This goal is a god's gift - Yuto says- cause i'm a defender and it's not my job to score [...]Thanks to all, expecially my supporters. Tonight i'm gonna celebrate alone cause my gf is in Japan; after the goal i would have some particular celebration, but i just see al white"; "After the match a lot of supporters - Japanese and not - were buying the 55 shirt".

And, at least, Inter valutations after the match
    [IMG]

Nagatomo 6.5 : The little Samurai disguise himself like Inzaghi and make a goal. San Siro go on flame when he touches the ball.

(Sorry for the English, i'm in a hurry and i can't re-read the post).
    Bye!
