To Soccer Sam: I was hoping for a truce between USL & NASL and just get it over with. But it looks like there will be none. You and your co-horts can keep on going and yapping it up. Just keep on going with this nonsense. After all it takes real heart to run an American Soccer League.

If all of this is true by what you are saying, why is it there are more PDL teams than USL-Pro teams? Costs. Where has Long Island been?, Carolina Dynamo? Once strong Pro sides who have decided to stay and remain alive for being a Short Season team in the PDL. Why did the Lancaster Rattlers leave PDL?

Listen we can talk about this crap till you are blue in the face, but at least there will be second division soccer and if USL would've done this many years earlier and listened to those teams that broke away to become the NASL because of the financial problem, then it wouldn't have come down to this.

But it really doesn't matter now. I feel bad for everyone in Rochester who has to listen to you and your friends talking the crap and so much smack, it's just not good. You can get on you knees and bob your head back and forth as many times as you want with Marcos, Clark & the USL. The truth is this, your Rhinos fans are not happy being 3rd division.

Clark is a weak minded man who is easily taken advantage of. And if you want to keep going with this all teams are owned by Americans crap, look up to MLS. Red Bull is from Austria & Chivas-USA is from Guadalajara, Mexico. And yes your Dayton, Ohio side is owned by Two Dutchmen that has a connection with FC Twente from the Netherlands. So stop being stupid.

    GIO17,

I would not characterize Rob Clark as weak minded at all. Did he know anything about soccer or running a professional soccer team. Probably not. Did he surround himself with those that did. Probably not. He did hire soccer sam. Enough said.

But to say he is not an intelligent man is off base. I think he was spot on reverting to USL this year. The NASL was in chaos with two of the most marketable and successful teams leaving after a year. To sell sponsors and fill suites you have to hustle in the winter months. How could you sell the NASL without a full league or schedule.

This could actually be that ass-clown on the radio. I listened once when he was having Brian Quarstad on. Outside of BQ's comments, there wasn't much discussion outside of the announcers school boy excitement over their discovery of the Lingerie Football League. Was pretty pathetic.

As for teams surviving the season...LOL You crack me up, you tool. You can rest assured that in looking at the lineup of each league kicking off the 2011 season, you are certain to see more of the USL Pro franchises not kicking off the 2012 season.

LOL... half of the teams in the MLS are not turning in profits.
Ratings of soccer games from around Europe are actually quite good too. Stop being bitter. And remember, just because you have the cash to actually start a soccer league or a team, doesn't mean you know more about the sport. Just like in 2002 during the WC when we met Shay Given's cousin at your restaurant and you said "who"... and i had to point to the TV and tell you "umm that guy" lol

Start acting like a professional. Everything Rochester does is shady, even the new stadium naming rights and how all that went down. And you know who i am, so let's pretend I know what's going and not play all the games. This organization (Rhinos as a whole) has so much dirty laundry it's not even funny...

You're an owner of a team, and look how you're acting. It's quite sad. You talk about growing the sport but look at yourself... everyone on the outside just sees a clown and that ain't helping to grow anything.

Really chief? Really? Ok, sorry, had to stop laughing there. I wonder if Jerry Jones goes on NFL blogs and makes feeble attempts to flame his critics too. LMAO Too funny. I like lingerie models just fine. But on a soccer blog, or if I were to speak on a soccer radio show, I don't feel the need to turn the conversation to scantily clad women playing sports.

But maybe there's a reason for that, eh chief? Perhaps it's because your team has become increasingly irrelevant to its fans. Perhaps it's because even Rhinos fans find you to be an insufferable ass-clown. Or perhaps it's just because of a dryspell in activity with lingerie clad women that your fantasies spill over into the rest of your life. Eh, no matter, and frankly, of no consequence to the rest of us. Seems it would be easy to go on here, too easy in fact. But I'll just move along.

Smoke and friends thanks, we have been talking about soccer, women and anything else that will keep non soccer fans listening for over 15 years.

Our hope is that a non soccer fan hears our show and will go to a game and become a life long fan like us.

I had some fun and tried to give you a taste of my radio character on Kick This! I want all leagues to make it and I hope that someday soccer will be one of the top sports in our great country.

Remember, Love your Country, Love your team, Love your league and only lie to your wife!

Feel the kick for life ! ss

Whether anyone wants to admit it or not, Soccer Sam does make a point (to a limited extent).

Minor league soccer is not surviving on the backs of the "hardcore" supporters. The teams that have (Portland) are already moving to MLS. Until the supporters groups are pulling in multiple hundreds a game, minor league soccer is going to be about families. It's catering to the majority of your audience. The teams are doing it to SURVIVE.

It's just one of the realities of the system.

So you are saying that all those teams which have spent the last gosh knows how long catering to families are doing wonderful right now?

    ...

Which ones? Think about what you just posted.

Read it again. I NEVER said that. I said they're surviving.

In minor league soccer you have to get everyone you cam in order to survive. You can't just target one demographic like MLS can. It's the nature of minor league sports.

Still think you are wrong. They aren't surviving, look at the casualty list. Look at the shit attendance across the league. Marketing to families and blaring music during games doesn't work.

I'm not saying they should only market to families. Maybe I'm not understanding people in the thread, but it seems like people are advocating for only marketing to the "hardcore" fans. I'm saying that teams should be trying to get everyone, both the hardcore AND the families.

I'm not saying there has to be music blaring during the games, but that doesn't mean you can't make every home game an event. I HATED when the City Stars blasted music, but we got them to stop that in the 1st season.

wow-where to start....I will start here-I am a former D 1 college player-played one year pro out of country-coached 2 years at the college level as well-I am over 30 years old:( and live outside of Buffalo a short drive down the thruway to Rochester.....................I go to quite few Rhinos games_as a matter of fact I have been to probably 90 percent of them since the inception of the team-I own a business for the last 5 years that employs more than 20 people-i always bring a couple of my workers with me to games, always purchasing tickets at the window-never been a season ticket holder-well guess what I will never, ever go to another Rhinos game again-and i will tell you why: rob clark has decreased payroll very year he has owned team thereby quality of play has gone down (FACT) going down to 3rd division is another way for rob clark to spend even less money (FACT)....Soccer Sam has LIED to all of you on this board when he says he increased ANYTHING when he was working for the RHINOS-- attendence has gone down every year since they have been in the SS stadium (FACT)! They old owners and regime of the Rhinos were crooks (fact) Chris Economides should be in jail or at least sued for his antics when he was with the Rhinos-he ran to carolina to hide from the mess he left behind (fact)---these people are all friends of soccer sam and they stiffed every decent business person in rochester that did business with them--(FACT) because I know several personally-----and you know what? when all this was going down Soccer Sam said on his radio show "so what that is how you do business"--guess what Sam-thats not how you do business-Soccer Sam sctick has gotten old, tired and embarrassing-he tries to hide behind that pathetic persona to disguise his stupid comments and it doesnt play....he should stick to selling pizza.....not selling us a bill of goods.....and his comments about about knee pads he made a few posts ago says it all about him....real funny...........oh yeah I almost forgot-he owns a indoor team that is about to start play in a league with three (3) teams ahahahahahahahahahha--good luck pizza man......

If the quality of play went down last season, how were they the USSF D2 Pro League Regular Season Champs?

They may have cut payroll between 2009 and 2010. But, with the hires of Pat Ercoli, Bob Lilley, and Bill Sedgewick, they spent their player payroll budget much better than they had under the previous regime and the coaching was better, so the results were much improved.

Absolutely. And many would say that it is a smart business decision to keep expenses in line with revenues.

Do you know what years Sam worked for the Rhinos and which ones he didn't?

james-I know Exactly when he worked for the Rhinos....i know your his mouth piece but soccer sam is a poor front office person at best-he has ZERO positive effect on a Soccer Club-he is clown like in his persona and soccer needs people who REALLY know how to market soccer not pizza.....listen, the people of rochester were sold a bill of goods about the ss stadium and businessmen were stiffed by old owners--now the new owner who got the team on the cheap, moves down to usl because he doesnt want to spend money anymore-these are facts-players in d3 get paid peanuts-quality of play will be terrible-its a waste of time for paying customers really-I guarantee the Rhinos wont average 5000 fans per match----mark this post--now go laugh at Sams stupid childish jokes.................fans are not stupid they wont be slapped in the face year after year.................
