Yeah, it's my goddamn fault. I revived a thread that was dead for a whole 29 minutes. Or you could just acknowledge that there's absolutely no new ground to be covered on this topic and just let frickin' go already.
yes because they was tested and passed, are you even american?? i mean Most people know that the regular season isnt truely relevant once you make the playoffs, your in, plaiin and simple, you on a new slate, from there its a next level of test. LA failed.
It may still be very much relevant. You might be still running for the SS title after you secured a playoff spot.
I'm not saying it's horrible, just saying it's not a way to establish who the BEST in the league that season is.
Of course I'm American. The difference is parity. In the NBA and NFL an 8 seed has very little chance of winning the championship. In MLS an 8 seed can be horrible the entire season, just barely make the playoffs and still win the championship (2 years in a row so far). So for this reason it makes the regular season seem meaningless if you're determining the champion by the playoffs and not the regular season. Just my opinion.
Colorado was not a mid-table team. The table after 30 or 34 games is irrelevant to who wins the championship as long as you are in the right group, because MLS deems it so. Colorado is the "real" champion. Whether they were the best team is irrelevant, since that's not a criteria in who becomes champion.
http://www.settingthetable.info/home.asp Colorado was #7 of 16 teams. I'd say that's a mid-table team.
Correct. All you have to do is not open the thread and your problems will be solved. Or you could make valuable comments like you did just before this one. Either one is fine with us.
I was going to answer your question Mr. chitownfire but several people did before me. And more spot on I may add. This thread is long past its usefulness. It should be moved to "You be the Don".
Why is the position after 30 games so important? MLS says it's not, other than being in the top 8 (10 in 2011) or the rest. Colorado was in the top 8, thus the number of their position is irrelevant. The point of the regular season is first and foremost to qualify for the playoffs. Anything else is secondary and basically meaningless.
he best thing is to po LOL if you had already qualified for ther MLS Cup Playoffs i dont think its matters as much about the SS. why risk when the top prize is at stake(MLS Cup that is) thats why i say the shield is irrelevant. you can to secure a Home advantage but the MLS playoffs doesnt allow that. so the best hing is to position yourself where u hope to be in the most comfortable playoff position to win the Cup, Might scale back alil bit on the lineups going into maybe the last two games of the regular season but once you secured that playoff spot that playoff focus is on and foremost a must.
http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/mls-reveals-expanded-playoffs-structure-2011 This seems like a very slight increase in the importance placed on the Supporters Shield because the winner plays the lowest seed and a slight increase in importance in coming in the top 3 in you conference for a "bye" in the WC round.
Well since MLS IS a real soccer league your point is completely off. Oh, so your opinion is completely worthless. Sorry for quoting you.
how convenient it is to forget that real soccer leagues exist in Latin America http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apertura_and_Clausura.
You realize this completely self-destructs the "we need more teams to have meaningful games" thing right. Point of the regular season is to win. Plain and simple.
and then you have morons like you. You seem to forguet that a "normal schedule" it is just one of many types of tournaments in the world. the real soccer leagues plays in any way they want. and my aunt makes delicious cakes..... see we both can make stupid comments!! it is like smoking... you know it is bad for your health.. but you can resist the urge!
How can you not see how self-defeating this is? Hell yeah, we're in the top 55%, now I can watch my team coast for three months. Shield or bust.
No guarantee that the team will win MLS Cup or even advance to the final. If you have good chance to win SS which is a major trophy, and also secure a berth to CCL group stage, it is very much relevant. You team might be in a position to play in CCL, USOC final, race for SS, and in MLS Cup playoff. Those are all important and the club should manage it depends on the condition and situation.
There's a reason for that. 1) A majority of MLS fans probably believe (I have no evidence to support this) that a Supporter's Shield Winner of a league with a balanced schedule..............SHOULD be acknowledged as the "best team" in MLS 2) From their actions, it would appear that the MLS front office disagrees. To them the MLS Cup winner is the Champion, and that doesn't appear to be changing any time soon. So you can go on and on and on in circles. I truly believe that the league won't have a balanced schedule for much longer. That's the key to the "pro-Supporter's Shield argument". Garber's gonna zoom past 20 teams. I bet we have 22-24 teams by 2020.........and as time goes on the team schedules will become increasingly unbalanced. And the new playoff format allows for the league to have as many teams as Garber's heart desires.
