All refunds have been mailed out as of Monday, many were done in January for those that reached out to us requesting it earlier. For some of you we were 7 days past our promised January date, sorry for the delay and for any concerns that I see on this board. There is also a note enclosed in the letter with some interesting news for our fans. Thanks for your support.
My wife and I received our refund today. The "interesting news" is about possibly playing in a "different league", in a different place than Toyota Park and there would likely be 5 or 6 home games plus a playoff game (according to the team). Sounds like the W-League.
I did not recieve a note in mine or at least I didn't see it. That would be a good idea if they can still keep the Club going while looking for investors for another run at WPS.
Got my refund and "interesting news" on Friday, too. Just a couple things to add: the "interesting news" was dated February 1, and its closing paragraph begins, "In a few weeks we hope to send you much more information about the 2011 season." Hopefully very, very soon. Also, I really hope the ownership group has the keys to the current chicagoredstars Facebook and Twitter presences -- that would seem the best way to start getting word out.
I got my money, and the letter, I E-mailed the InfoChicagoredstars.com thing and asked for more info, no reply yet.
Considering FC Indiana beat the Red Stars 3-2 a while back, the W-League isn't such a bad place. I'd rather see a league full of Brittany Kleins than supposed "big names" who can't keep possession or find the back of the net.
FC Indiana wasn't exactly a typical W-League team, though certainly it and a few of the other top ones could give a WPS team a run for its money.
Glad to hear you guys finally got your refund. Now maybe the Red Stars and the St.Louis W-league team can play each other!
Well it won't be under the name red stars, since that belongs to the WPS. Against this St Louis team http://www.wpsl.info/team/index.php?tid=96
A WPS team budget is hardly a back breaker for the rich. It's just that we didn't have an owner who really cared. If he did the Athletica would still be there.
I'm sad for you. St. Louis is an awesome place to live and visit, and has great college sports. But it would be better if it had pro soccer.
Well come on, most rich people do not get rich (or stay rich) by losing money every year, I mean there are not many Ibrahimovich (owner of Chelsea), It is nice that there are owners willing to lose money, but you can not blame them for not wanting to lose money.
That's true BUT they were supposed to have a 3 to 5 year plan and be prepared for the losses. That was the whole point of the escrow account!
that whole "build it... people will come" thing may have been possible in the Field of Dreams but unfortunately it hasn't panned out for WPS. Except in mydreams...
Or will it... It will; Orrin Schwartz on the Daily Herald site (after the Fire and MLS news): "According to the Women's Premier Soccer League website, the Red Stars will play at Benedictine University in Lisle this summer." WPSL Chicago Red Stars page: http://www.wpsl.info/team/index.php?tid=124 Nice!
