I have no idea if that is playing a factor in the decision. Haven't seen anything along those lines.

nobody wants them to withdraw, but they always have some interesting things happen when it's time to come to USA.

That's happened ever since 2008 Olympic qualifying, when a portion of their players defected in the middle of the competition.

I sat behind one of the goals during the USA-Cuba Olympic Qualifier and the Cuban goalie spent a lot of time in the second half talking to some people in the stands.

Of course he was one of the few who left.

Funny that they have brought their baseball team twice to the states, and the baseball team is far more important. Conversely, maybe that is why they keep coming.

Guess that makes sense. Rigging a draw takes more time and effort than simply drawing names out of a hat at random.

Hey does anybody know why the Gold Cup does not have a "third place" match? The last 3 gold cups did not have it, i find it odd.

First off, keep in mind that it was only a guess. To your other point though, Mexico has been in a third place match only three times in Concacaf history. 1969, 73, 91. In the Gold cup, only in 1991 did they go into the third place game. In the modern history of the US team, ie since 1990, they went twice. The last time the 3rd place game was held was when South American powerhouse teams like Brazil were invited to the tournament. Which is why the US was in the 3rd place game that year. In 2005, when they stopped the 3rd place match, Columbia and South Africa were the invitees. Not exactly big draws. The third place matchups would have been...

Yea i get your point it would look bad if a 40,000 stadium looked more than half empty for a big tournament and they don't make money off the game. OR maybe Concacaf is just to lazy to put a 3rd place match

3rd place matches suck no matter the tournament or even the sport for that matter. Two teams that are eliminated and no longer care just get prevented from going home.
