Ozil's price was low because his contract had less than a year to go. Since he was leaving one way or another, they didn't want to lose him for nothing.

And Real already had more than 25 senior players so they would have had to pay VDV to sit in the stands.

Sissoko then threads a pass past a stunned Michael Essien to Luis Suarez who turns on John Terry and beats Petr Cech into the top left corner.

Ozil was in the last year of his contract which is why Werder had to sell. The fee was actually higher than expected when you consider all Real bought was 12 mos. of service.

As for VdV, due to his style of play he will always be a polarizing figure. He's still very injury prone yet when he does play you really need to structure your formation around him. He'll never play on a top team because frankly he's just not good enough (and VERY few are) to warrant that level of consideration. He's absolutley ineffective in a traditional 4-4-2 formation as he can't play in midfield and prefers to drop deep rather than lead the line.

 

Time to look forward now....let's not get hung up on a greedy baby like Torres.

What a brain melter of a day.

In the end we have traded the best striker in the world ( conditions being perfect mind you) for two very good ones that are 3-5 years younger.

Given that our problem was/is primarily a lack of depth, and also that brylcream forced our hand, I suppose we shall have to live with it.

Forgetting money, Carrolls a beast. Hes almost impossible to handle becouse of his size and determination. He and Suarez may well make an outstanding pairing. Its lucky for us that Mike Ashley is, well, Mike Ashley. Little bit of over the odds and he bit our hands off. Ha.

It takes real balls to look at sums like 35 million pounds and know that your getting pooched, and say ya, ok, that keeps the team in the game, lets do it. They ignored the sums and treated it as a trade. FSG +5.

If we were going into a cl final against barca tommorow with world classers 3 deep at every spot, then we would need zitface becouse he's a difference maker in a game like that.

In reality, we are hoping to win 3 on the trot for the first time in a million years against Stoke, hoping to drag ourselves up to at least 6th place by the end of the year to get back into tier II in sept, and hoping to get a nice tier II run together becouse we have a decent draw at this point. As i think about it, Suarez and Carroll are likely to prove far more usefull in those endevours than Barbie was ever going to.

I also like that we have them both on 5 years after this season is over. Thats awesome.

Also: 50 million pounds for a 7 goal scorer, totally reliant on pace, whose only 27 but his hammys cant play twice a week, who hasnt shown anything but flashes for 18 months. Now THAT is an epic swindle. Roman must have blinked for a millisecond and missed all those Manu Owen scoring hilights.

and finally....please god: let russia finish 5th. please please please. I will laugh till i cry. That team is not that good at this point. Dogbreath is gonna love playing second fiddle. Good find. It's amazing how many of those goals come as a result of his pinpoint accuracy. Being able to place the ball anywhere on target isn't something that's going to change just because he comes to a better league. He'll just have to adapt to better defenders. I mean even Premier League goalkeepers wouldn't save most of those absolute snipes.

 

Suarez highlights show the following:

- Deadly right foot. Deadly left foot.

- Nice first touch to get ball into critical position for second touch.

- Absolutely lethal final touch with almost peerless placement of shots. With his weaker left foot he manages to curl his shots, and lift them into the roof of the net.

- Ability to pass and create.

I love this kid already. I wonder how difficult it would be to remove the Torres labels from my kits and replace them with Suarez.

 

If he settles, he could be immense.

I'm not sure if he's a world class player in the EPL, but he's at least a very good one.

 

A small confession.

When I found out that LFC had signed Andy Carroll, I went into gush mode.

I think the Suarez/Carroll partnership is likely to be akin to a duo that played for an unmentionable team in the late 90s and early 00s, but for obviously different reasons.

 

If Carroll kept up the pace all season, what's his value then?

Michael Bradley did end up going to Villa on loan. He's replacing Ireland so he'll probably get some good playing time. I'm glad. I want to see what he can do against strong competition, and Villa is a good place for him (Friedel and Guzan can help him acclimate). He's only 23 and he's done well in Bundesliga, but this is a big challenge for him. Hopefully he'll rise to the occasion. I think he will.

 

Because those players are scared of AC Milan and then having to play in the Europa League next year. Even though I believe they'll beat Milan and finish 4th, ahead of London's 3rd biggest club

 

Spurs is either overreaching and delusional or just wanted to make themselves look like a big deal with money to spend knowing that these transfers wouldnt happen. Or Rednapp just wanted attention. Honestly, I think its all three.
