Luiz at 23 years old is a good get. He's pretty much value. The kid they're giving isn't bad.

He did not impress vs. us when I watched the games.

I don't think he has the size or guile to be a good premier league CB. However, with that team, he may be better for them in possession - which they should control.

He's an excellent left-back and, in time, will be a good centre-back.

As if LB needed another reason to hate the Huns, El-Hadj Diouf has just signed with Rangers.

He's going to be thrust into a position of great responsibility very quickly.

I wonder if Chelsea honestly believe that Torres and Drogba could play on the same field at the same time.

Torres has always been complete shite when playing with another striker.

I've thought the same thing. But he'll score goals no doubt. Hope he pulls his hammie on his first attacking run -- hasn't had much practice at that lately

Re: The Fernando Torres Thread: "A Liverpool Bromance"

I'll never understand the incessant demand for trophies. One player does not win a trophy to become a legend. Teams win trophies, players become legends for how they play and carry themselves as loyal servants of a club. He led us to believe he was loyal to Liverpool in all circumstances, this created his meteoric rise in our hearts and minds. So elevated, he has that much further to fall.

Most of us clouded our opinions of him because His Armband Said He Was a Red, as the song goes. In truth, he was oft-injured, many times tempermental, frequently had a difficult time acclimating his touch and pace when returning from injury. He disappeared for long stretches, then ignited us all with a magical strike from seemingly nowhere, as he oozed class. Pace and coldblood recoiled from his boots and sprang us to life for so many match days, and we fell in love with him. But he was not always on the pitch and magical. Just most of the time. And now we see it as the bloom falls from the rose.

Off goes Torres to Chelsea to "win trophies", and in doing so he cedes his status as a Liverpool legend in the making, an image he welcomed and actively fostered. That's why this hurts. We needed his skill, we thought he was different, and he wanted us to think he was different. He's now a big fish in a big pond full of other large fish, to be blamed for future failures and included as just one of many contributing to future successes.

I don't challenge his right to leave. Fair play to him on that. Just the way it went down, and the very decision to do it, is going to have consequences. He had to have considered that, and decided to do it anyway. I'll always have fond memories of him as Liverpool's Number 9, but I won't lose any sleep over the inevitable yellow card Carragher will give him because Carra is too slow to defend him.

Torres was in-line to be the next Carra and Gerrard, Liverpool legends even without a title. He made vows to us, and didn't honor them. We'll be mature about it (well, most of us will), but we won't pretend we like it.

Re: The Fernando Torres Thread: "Baby Judas"

Ah no matter how positive I try to be this still sucks. I remember following Torres a little back when he was still in spain, in the old fifa games used to be my first transfer target, than it actually happened and one of my favourite players outside the club became part of the club. Couldve been a legend.. ah well =/

His armband prooved he was a red, Torres Torres :(

Funny you say that, because in both FIFA 10 and FIFA 11 Suarez has been my first target and in FIFA World Cup I always use Uruguay to play with Suarez and Forlan when I'm not using Canada.

Maybe lightning will strike again

I agree Drobny, he already won the WC and Euro's. I would've thought it would mean more to Torres to win the EPL with us than anyone else.

Re: The Fernando Torres Thread: "Baby Judas"

First off, Chelsea you are a classless joke of an organisation. I hope Spurs and Citeh (both clubs I dislike intensely) finish above you in the league and you dont even make the CL next season. Hope Marseille and yes even Everton kick you out of the cup competitions.

As for Torres, Im not going to lie I was hoping this shit deal would break down and he would be forced to make nice for the rest of the season.
I was willing to believe that ridiculous story of how "furious" he was that his agent put in the transfer request even after the Suarez deal was greenlighted. Whatever, I was willing to believe that because maybe this was a lapse in judgement brought on by the nightmare which has been our clubs situation. People are allowed mistakes and hell even Gerrard wanted to go to Chelski at one point. However, now that it is done, good riddance. He will probably regret this move as Chelsea has there own set of problems and are not a convincing team. Also, Ancelotti does not him and he is basically another one of roman's little tantrums like Shevchenko and we all know how that turned out.

At least now all of this is over and the club can move on.

I needed to move to a big club.

Re: The Fernando Torres Thread: "Baby Judas"

this quote is being mis-reported all over... this is exactly what he said:

"this is the, i think, the target for every footballer to try to play for one of the top level clubs in the world and i can do that now..."

there was no 'finally', and no dig that liverpool aren't a top level club... he meant that he is now playing for a top level club... that is all...

ESPN US reports in US dollars... so, 50 mil pounds sterling is equal to $79.5 mil...

Who knows what the hell he's trying to say...I wouldn't really try to project what he intended to say. Might be a dig, who knows. He wanted to make more money and play in the Champions League. That's what we know for sure.

Re: The Fernando Torres Thread: "Baby Judas"

that's my point, we know what his actions are and they speak for themselves... i don't think there is a need to vilify everything that he says... it's transfer-speak and everyone says things like that... and we shouldn't put credence in anyone's mis-quotes, regardless of who there are...
