There are two reasons to complain about the Revs. 1. When they do something. 2. When they don't do something.
If I recall correctly, that was the game following the Ireland game where an over-the-limit supporter stumbled over the wall and streaked onto the field. I guess Irish Spring soap was considered the appropriate response. No worries calling me out, I'm fine really. Welcome to the board and a semi regular seat this season. I would only add that a call for professional marketing is a much different thing than a call for any marketing. What's the difference? Marketing to mom and kiddies for nearly a decade (woo hoo Soccer Kicks!) was certainly marketing. 1. See above 2. Never confuse movement with action
D00ls welcome to the boards.... now run far far away... kidding... sorta but if you want to see where the passion comes from in "pride and passion" this is it... and we bicker like dems and republicans but well over this team. When it come to the groupon game I actually think it was a great promotion and i'd like to see them do more. Groupon is a pretty hip social media type thing and I think it was a good out reach tool and we were lucky to have that on a good game.
Excellent. This operation was a success! I hope we get another groupon game this season. Just try to limit your exposure to bigsoccer, because it causes cancer Okay, I looked for this stuff via google, wayback, and usenet, and can't find any significant discussion more recent than about 2002. I've been a regular at matches since the 2003 season, and I don't remember "soccer smiles" at all. How long are we gonna complain about stuff from ten years ago dudes? I mean, aside from MPF. MPF can keep going on indefinitely as far as I'm concerned.
Welcome to bigsoccer, now leave and avoid this place. Most people here hate life. And the revs. #zing
You DID NOT just say that on BigSoccer. My intent was not to complain further about the reality of soccer smiles marketing. It was that -- not all marketing is good marketing. Groupon. Hooray Groupon. There I said it. Now I'm off to get my Groupon 73% discount at Roy's World of Beef and Automotive Accessories.
Not familiar with Groupon so I wiki'd it: Whats the ********ing point if they reject all the fun ones?
Seriously though what do you expect to read on the Revolution message board during the off season? Hot stove talk about all the international signings the Revs are lining up? The team went through the motions on the draft and signed one international defender. They were so inconsistent last year with late season additions that we don't know what to expect this year. There have been no indications of changes in stadium situation. I'm not sure what else there is to talk about except for what the FO ISN'T doing, as opposed to what they have been doing.
I expected nothing but positivity and people offering to give me beer in the parking lots. Is this the wrong place for that? Because I do like beer.
The beer you will get... positive vibs, not so much;-) ...at least until we have something to be positive about (other than being positive that things have not improved very much, that is)...
I would say March 1st would be a good deadline. If they haven't improved their offense by then I would say they arent going to. The Domi signing was something that I found encouraging, but it didnt lead to another signing like I hoped it would.
Not true! We find something negative even if it is a positive. It's like a double negative. If we were happy, than wtf would we have to talk about on a BS forum?
So. Has anyone begun to get calls asking them to settle up their balance on season tickets? I have VM. I guess I'm about to find out whether they will wait any longer.
When you sum up the draft, the main resource for players acquisition in MLS, as "going through the motions", I can understand why you feel that way. Why would you conclude that? They added their main two offensive weapons last year after March 1st. Whether or not they find and sign someone by 3/1 (or any date), there's no reason to think they're going to wrap it up for the year. In fact, I think it's pretty likely that we'll have a mid-summer signing this year (considering that we still have plenty of cap space, allocation money, have expressed an intention to sign a DP and that is when most European players go out of contract).
I do appreciate the fact that last week you tried to temper expectations for the two potential signings. Now you're already talking about the summer window. Apparently our tagline should actually be "The season of no expectations!"
Expectations. In an off-season following such a bad season that management somewhat actively discussed need a major injection of talent, one might have felt that they'd see the REVs dealing to get more picks or to move up or both. Just showing up and drafting in their assigned order does have the feel of going through the motions. Standard Responses 7, 11 and 12 7 - The later they add players the less time they have to "GEL," leaving us fans to witness extended periods of crap football with crap results. 11- Because the Revs figure we should be happy with a half year of a marginally competitive team. Why show up with a competitive team in March when you don't need one til August to make the playoffs? 12 - They are always going to do something outstanding in the future.
