You know the foot dragging may be as simple as the difference between footing the bill yourself and getting someone else to pay for it. Obviously, if the club can afford to sign one/or both players and wants to do so then the deal can get done very quickly. Perhaps it is getting the league to sign a player like Kassel (or Agudelo) to a GA deal that takes so long as they are apparently counting every penny.

Regarding Hot, the club may have miscalculated a bit on his interest in going pro. Perhaps he is trying to jump start the process by gathering suitors from abroad. They need to know that a U-20 who plays well, especially in the tournament this summer will gather a lot of foreign interest.

    According to Steve Goff

Red Bulls' homegrown deal with Maryland MF Matt Kassel should be done in a few days, I'm told #mls #redbulls #terps

For those who missed the confirmation, Kassel apparently posted this on Facebook (per Jamez973 on MF)

Great news. It is, effectively, another 1st round (and probably top 10) draft pick. Now hopefully, Hot is next.

Definitely good news, but this guy based on all the analysts would definitely not have been top 10 (more like late 1st round or early 2nd). Still good thing as he probably also went for between $40K and $80K. Now we have to hope that Sacir Hot gets inked as well.

That seems steep. Unless it includes incentives and RBNY is only paying for half his salary or less.

Some money might be Gen Adidas. Like Andy Najar. This stuff is all very vague.

It really should not be a major concern to the fans as to what salary Kassel is earning because if i recall correctly based on the new MLS roster rules, homegrown players signed under the homegrown player rules are not considered against the teams overall salary cap, much like generation addidas.

Years ago I always worried that MLS would never get it right with the youth systems, back whn they refused to allow players like Johnny Exantus sign with the Metrostars. Or when they would allow academies but provide zero incentive to actually fund them.

MLS has come a long way over the past 3-4 seasons to take a leading role in player development.

HG players are not like GAs, they are GAs the same as the Reserve.....

Also I can almost guarantee that Kassel is not earning more than $80K and may be somewhere more like $50 to $60K. Kassel is a more likely a player the Red Bulls hope will have an impact in 2 to 3 yrs. I am curious when the next list of salaries is posted by the players union. He is also probably part of that category of 21 to 30 players (again not more than 30- that is for Metz) who are outside the salary cap.

Maybe you are right, but if:

He ask for more what the hell if Adidas is the one who will pay for his paycheck...

I agree if it is all paid by Adidas, but I am not sure if that is the case. We know Adidas pays for GA salaries, but that is unclear with home grown players. I have a feeling that Kassel's salary is paid by the Red Bulls as well as georgi Chirgadzi and maybe Hot.

There is still a bunch of this kind of stuff that still has not been disclosed by league as well as any other limitations on the players who can be inserted on the 21 to 30 roster spots.

I mean if those roster spots are outside the salary cap, why not place someone like Salou there if they can't get rid of him?

I hope we get more info on all of this

This is the most non-transparent league in the history of prof sports in the USA. We never are really sure of rules and regulations until afterthe fact.

That is true... Is difficult make sense when we don't know a thing, see, right now there are 14 Internationals on the team, how they will handle all of this, who knows, the team only have 10 spot for Internationals, how or what will they do to accommodate all of them....

    For JCR3:

Giorgi isn't a GA he was signed before this program started, but Agudelo and Kassel are the two GA-HG on the team, Sacir is something else and have to get pay for the NYRB out side they Salary Cap...and the 21-30 the first four can't be older than 25 and the 6 last have to be under 24, that mean that if someone become 24 in 2011 he can't be part of them, so Salou can't be one of the 21-30 player...

Can we just make one thread for metz to argue roster rules that he makes up as he goes?

You truly have a dizzying intellect.

We have a roster thread which I plan on fleshing out and stickying when I get a spare moment or two to stop these questions

I kind of want a Metz vs. Carbonero thread where they are the only ones allowed to post. In fact, that should be the *only* thread they are allowed to post in.

Then we can just check in from time to time to see their equally insane, but completely different opinions on the team.

Once again, you prove yourself an idiot and are willing to say absolutely anything regardless of its truth. What is surprising is that you stopped with your nonsense on the HG players increasing a roster size over 30 to an unlimited amount. I know I am egging you on.

#1 Giorgi Chirgadze was signed on Sept 11, 2009. Jeremy Hall in January 2009 was a Generation Adidas player. In case, you don't know January is before November and it was in place before that.

I believe there is an age restriction on the 25 to 30 roster slots but have heard nothing of the sort on the 21 to 24 roster slots. Was this another speech by Garber you heard of Metz. Regarding Kassel, HE IS NOT A GA signing. That would have been announced and neither is Hot.

Just don't say anything unless you can cite some reliable source which by definition does not include you. Where in the world did you get that Kassel is a GA signing? If you are in doubt, you say "I believe that......".

My friend the one is wrong is you, the HG-GA was established until 2010 and yes Chirgadze was signed at the end of the season of 2009...The GA-HG program wasn't in existence in 2009....See what I'm saying "Generation Adidas Homegrown"... No Super Draft that was established in 2008...

Yes is a age designation for players 21/30 and I think go like that:

The 21/24 have to be U-25 with 40K minimum salary and the reserve or 25-30 U-24 with 32K minimum salary....
