As announced on their FB page: Slyde is going to be in and around South Station giving out 5 pairs of tickets to the March 26 home opener!! He'll be handing out Metro papers also!! YAY!!! This is great NEWS and most likely is going to be followed by the signing of Diego Forlan from Athletico Madrid. Sure, Seattle have made a bid for him, but, the Krafty Group will swoop in and bring to the Revs and MLS probably the best pure player since Valderrama..!! And if not Diego..then it will most likely announce Keane or Owen signings...and if not them, then some A list player from Argentina, Brazil or Columbia..and if not that, then a well thought out trade for some prime MLS talent... and if not that...then some grade A "straight to DVD" diamonds in the rough from the Seychelles... because certain as my name is fan dan...there has GOT TO BE some OTHER NEWS from the Revs camp then some draft signings??? No...??
Absolutely!!! That's why I think it's just the start of some great in yo face PR for the Revs as they Ramp up the incredible stories that will follow!!
Yup... It says.. Heading through South Station tonight on your way home? Be on the look out for Slyde for the chance to win one of five pairs of tix to the March 26 home opener......
An unusual journey: Fernando Cabadas' path to the Revs http://nesoccertoday.com/?p=2848 New England Soccer Today
In all honesty, marketing-wise, I think the Revs missed a huge opportunity to take advantage of the Blazer's halftime bad-PR fiasco.
I know they are trying to steer the marketing (well, the stuff that they actually do) more towards the adult demographic, but they still attract the family crowd as well. All they had to do was make some sort of allusion/mention via social media (FB, Twitter, email, website) to reitterate how they are family-friendly (i.e. no lap dances for Slyde), affordable and a chance to see some pretty decent players (even though they might be in away kits )
Given their immense popularity in Boston and Slyde's overwhelming brand recognition, look for this in tomorrow's news ... 'Mark Fellsgruber, MBTA animal control, with his South Station catch'
Either that, or someone is going to think that one of the unions are protesting a business, dressing a guy up in a rat suit!
No lap dances for Slyde? Damn, well... it's not like Ben Olsen is available for bookings anyway . FWIW, the Revs have taken out the entire back page of the Metro today for a season-ticket ad... which is a whole lot better than nothing. That being said, it would be nice to see a bit more 'hard' news coming out of Patriot Place, or even something along the lines of a Q & A on the website with Didier Domi.
Exactly. It's better than nothing but there's no cohesion to their marketing, ever. It's tactical, not strategic. I pass through South Station all the time en route to work and if I saw Slyde I'd keep walking. It's embarrassing to approach a stuffed animal for handouts unless you have a young child in tow or are trashed and don't care either way.
I think alot would depend on who is wearing the suit too. If you get someone with a Philly Phanatic type attitude who will engage people as they walk by, it could be good PR. If the guy just sits there waiting to be approached or just waives as people walk by they why bother
I'd be okay with this. You know, people like to speculate on how this team is hampered by the attitudes of guys like Kraft and Nicol, but I think the real problem is Slyde. His outmoded thinking has cost us more than one trophy, if you ask me! In fact, I'm going to go ahead and change my BigSoccer name to Slyde Out. I just think funny animal costumes are hilarious and like free stuff, but hey, thanks for writing me off as a small child/drunk shithead!
Perhaps the Revs girls at some downtown Boston Club, handing out free tix..especially on International night "MIGHT" get some eurosnob to go to Gillette and catch the opening day game... ...however, after watching said first game, they won't recognize anyone on the field unless it's LA or RBNY and then never come back again..telling all their friends what an amateurish outfit the Revs are... But, put Slye in that same downtown club and he may end up in a stew or barbecued! Mmmmmm...grilled muskrat!! LOL
Well each to his own and more power to you, Mike. I honestly didn't mean to offend your delicate sensibilities. Lots of room for all kinds of Revs fans of all ages and personalities down at The Cavern. I'm probably wrong or devoid of humor to suggest a marketing campaign aimed towards adults (I think) at a busy commuter rail station in Boston anchored around a big furry fox handing out professional soccer tickets may, um, fail.
I think if Bob Krafty gets his butt down there on the coldest day of 2011 and hands out Revs tix in a Revs Jersey...it may give the team some credibility... ok..I said MAY!!! LOL
